With all the rumor and speculation flying around about Anthony Michael Hall and Mike Engel and a villainous turn in TDK, no one seems to be brining up Reese, played by Joshua Harto.

There are a few pics of him on the set of TDK:

If I had a face that smooth I wouldn't even attempt to blackmail Fox

Assistant of Dent or Gyllenhaal?

God is it seems like there are a ton of supporting characters. If this "Reese" has more than 5 minutes of screen time I'll be angry

He doesn't look old enough to cross the street on his own let alone have a job

This seems like the most pointless story element ever.

Ever.

Well, it gives Bruce something to do and addresses one of the biggest nitpicks levelled at Begins. Sounds like a decent way to show the public's obsession with Batman and makes a nice point about Joker's relationship with him too. At the least it provides a fun daytime scene between Bruce and Gordon

From what i've heard and read, Reese finds out Batmans true identity, blackmails Fox with it, and then tells Mike Engel who batman is, then Engel promises to tell everyone on his show, Joker stops this with a bomb threat, then Fox somehow blackmails Reese into not telling.
But that's just what i heard.

I didn't read the spoiler, but where did you hear this from?

Why? Nolan has described this film as the story of a city. It's supposed to have lots of characters. I get the feeling some people are just of the opinion that if a character is not in the comics then he or she is automatically worthless.

This is correct. Its based primarily on some call sheets that a few extras got their hands on during the Chicago shoot.

It just strikes me as forced. I like the fact that The Joker's willing to protect Batman's identity and all that, but...

It's really just an unneccessary place to go with the mythology at this point.

Do you think it's too early in their relationship for Joker to feel this way?

Not at all, especially if they've met at least once, as The Joker would enjoy their "game". I don't mind him being oddly protective of Batman, but I think forcing that particular plot point is unneccessary. It just smacks of "We couldn't find anything to do with Lucious Fox so we're doing this".

"Oh, I just stumbled on who Batman is".

It had better be incredibly well done. It just strikes me as the kind of story point that should be reserved for something like a Batman TV series...not a movie. And let's face it, Bruce Wayne's identity being uncovered...it's been done.

But has he been blackmailed about it before (in the films)? I don't remember the villains doing very much with it in Batman Forever, from the plot point of trying to exposing him publicly. It could work if done well.

The way it seems though is that Engel is extremely jealous of Bruce Wayne, so he hireds Reese to try to dig up info on Wayne when he discovers he is Batman, not the other way around.

One thing is definite and that is Reese breaks into the Applied Sciences vector of Wayne Enterprises for whatever reason, and Fox blackmails Reese into not sharing the identity after Engel already knows.

Blackmail doesn't impress me as a story point. Sorry. That's how most subpar pornos begin.

hmm, here's the info about Reese from a callsheet from the week of August 12, 2007:

INT. FOX’S OFFICE – WAYNE ENTERPRISES
Reese (played by Joshua Harto) tries to blackmail Fox with Batman’s identity
INT. HALLWAY – WAYNE ENTERPRISES
Fox puts Lau in an elevator and puts Reese in his place
INT. EXT LOBBY/ STREET ENTRY – TV STUDIO
Gordon tries to get Reese out. The angry mob resents that
INT./ EXT TELEVISION STUDIO/ ALLEY
Gordon gets Reese out through a side door and into a Police Van
EXT. POLICE VAN/ ALLEY
Gordon drives off with Reese

The identity thing really has to be addressed in a big way given the inspirational theme of Begins. Doing it in at least 3 different ways (Reese and Engel, the vigilante copycats and Dent's announcement) may turn out to be redundant though. But compared with the use of cornball kid in Begins I'm pretty excited about this aspect

It just seems like suddenly there are a few "What if Batman was real" issues popping up? Some of that I like, like the vigilantes, and the police questioning Batman's actions and trying to catch him (hopefully).

But how does he find out Bruce is Batman? Does he walk by when Fox is making the Batsuit? :)
