If they wanted a black woman from SNL, why not Sasheer Zamata instead of Leslie Jones?

Great post, I agree. Why can't the actual overall quality of whatever it is, in this case a fun and funny remake of the Ghostbusters, be a separate issue to all that you just typed though? Why? Say it is a "gimmick"... Okay... So what? Is the writing of the story and characters funny? Are the production values good? Did it make the audience laugh and have a good time? If it does that then... Who the frack cares about it being gimmicky? And there is where I have a problem with the fans being so loud about this... None of what you or others bring up is germane to the actual content or quality of the film. It's a choice the creators made and hopefully they deliver on the far more important aspects. That's what I would be far more concerned about. Instead I keep hearing harping on the ONE aspect that seems to stand out... The female cast. Is it a wonder why the term sexism is being thrown around? I don't mean that to be a smart ass, I mean that to really open some eyes. If instead of saying, "I don't like the gimmick of an all female cast" and instead the the line of criticism was, "I don't like the director's previous work" or "I don't like Mcarthy or Wiig as comedians" then, fine. BUT that doesn't seem to be what I hear a lot. I hear that for some reason it seems to offend fans that they made this film with an all female cast. Sorry, rightly or wrongly, if that is the bone of contention, then, yeah, it's not a surprise that some look at that as having a whiff of sexism to it.
I think a majority of the posters here already clarified several times its not a gender issue, but the people that are promoting the film are insisting it is. It's funny that they have to call us sexist for not liking this idea when I guarantee most of the fans who are against this are NOT complaining about Rey in the Force Awakens.

The only thing this film is pandering to right now is Feig's ideas. But Female led properties are not a new thing. Come on now. I take it most of us grew up with Buffy, Dark Angel, Xena, Underworld, Resident Evil, La Femme Nikita etc right? Us dudes love the heck out of female led genre properties. And with female led comedies like Feigs films where the humor is uNiversal and not pandering to a typical chick flick formula we dig those too. If your funny your funny. How is a female team "pandering" but an all male team isn't? Movies pander to men all the time. The entire film industry panders to the male demographic all the time. I guess some men are upset that now women are being pandered to the same way men are all the time with these kinds of movies, and its something they can't wrap their head around.
I really don't get the complaints about this. People try to explain themselves how it's not because of the all-female team, but they only just end up making it sound like it's exactly cause of the all-female team. I get that humor is subjective, but I thought Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy were all hilarious films. Paul Feig's track record is good and the cast is awesome so let's just wait for the trailer at least.
