But don't most reboots suck? Ghostbusters 2 wasn't great, and that had the same cast. I mean, even with an all-male cast, the reboot would seem almost destined to suck.

But it would not have garnered nearly the attention or even the type of attention.

Let's just look at WB Interactive Entertainment right now. We now know for a fact that they spent money to garner good coverage for their games. And specifically did not want it disclosed that they were doing so.

This has of course garnered the same attention as Gamer Gate did. Oh wait it hasn't? But I thought it had nothing to do with a chance to call women all the horrible things sexist want to call them...

Tron Legacy being connected to a 20 year old movie didn't stop it from being bland and didn't make the general audience care.

So, really, sexism was good for this movie.

Uh, if you consider waves of hate speech being lobbed at half our population for movie being made, yeah. It was good. Just like Gamer Gate, where like here, women are being threatened with violence and being mocked for being women.

I think a lot of fans were incensed by the notion that they rebooted this just to have a vehicle for these female stars.

I think it had more to to do with fans having in their mind that "my way" is how it has to be done if this is going to be done.

That's been the key to Marvel's success. When Burton was making Batman, geeks had to hope that his vision lined up with want they wanted. Now with Marvel, it's more of a "what can't we accomplish" mentality.

I don't fault fans for wanting something, but the reality was that Murray didn't want to. Ramis died. There was never going to be GB3 other than grasping at whatever nostalgia the director could.

Feig was very diplomatic in the beginning. He never bashed the original or acted like his version didn't need the original story. He just talked about what he wanted to accomplish with a reboot.

Empty threats on Youtube < millions of dollars.

I'd be pretty pissed off and feel vindicated too if I were a woman and something finally came along for women that was met with misogyny and needless, suspicious disdain that turns out to be successful, which are things that happen in day to day life for them. Their anger is justified. And it's a movie. Nobody's getting harmed here and it helps feminism. Let them be angry. I'd say anger is a rational response to things like this. I don't indite them for making them react like this.

Actually, this reminds me when Feig went on that twitter rant last year. He was pretty instigated to get to that point.

I'd argue that this isn't helping feminism much at all

I saw a TV spot that used the New York Times quote: "Women are funny. Get over it"

Seriously I wanna meet these marketing people because they're some type of stupid

Has someone actually been harmed?
How are threats of murder and rape not harmful to human being? Beyond that the law no longer seems it as empty threats, as people have been stalked, driven from their homes and harmed, and that is before we get into crap like doxing.

The stars of this movie? I mean, to me comments in the Youtube section do not equate real threats. Now if they received handwritten death threats, okay. But I haven't heard of any of that.

I am talking about Gamer Gate, and how we are seeing the same stuff here. Namely doxing. What is the point of putting out person information on a person like where they live, if not as a threat of physical harm?

Oh I thought we were talking about Ghostbusters.

And you wonder why the marketing starting playing up the sexist angle. If not for that this kind of review would be dominating things.

#Ghostbusters: Moderately fun pic w/ dull script but 4 winning, energetic, improv-savvy leads we shd have more of. Uninteresting villain.

The clock hasn't run down to 0:00 yet. If this actually ends up making the money it needs, the hate around this movie will go under the rug. And hopefully, more female led action-franchises will increase cause the audience has spoken.
