10PM showing at one of the most important theaters of Buenos Aires, tonight (opening night)

Reds are sold, green is the one suggested to buy (I don't know what are the blue one, probably reserved for handicap people or not on sale for some other reason)

The alternate dimension theory is something i could see the studio running with if there is a sequel. That gives them room to have some of the original cast interact with the new team like Star Trek or X-Men did.

I think so. I think that people just need to get over it. It's tough but it's true. Is it ideal? No. But this all wouldn't be such a problem if the misogynists weren't misogynists and things weren't always about men and any woman is justifiably going to react that way because it's the only way to deal with it when they're the ones who have to fight to have recognition in the first place. It becomes a two way street. Men really don't like it when they're shown up when it's not to something they're not comfortable with. They're laying in the bed they made for themselves. They have to accept the fact this is a reality and if not, then they're still wrong at the end of the day. Can't do anything for them and they can languish on.
 
But what still doesn't explain how it really is helping feminism. It was just about why misogynists suck, which is true

If you're saying that it's the first big budget female led film then I'd agree but we'd have to wait for the box office.

There are and will be female driven comedies. Sure there could be more, but I don't think GB16 has really done anything yet to help feminism much. I think Bridesmaids did a better job of pushing forward women in Hollywood.

Other than the higher budget really how is this much different than Bridesmaids, The Heat, Neighbors 2 or even movies that are coming out like Bad Moms in terms of it helping feminism or pushing anything in an upward direction? Seems like a lateral movement to me

If it's a success, then it's a success for feminism. If people are pissed off by it, that's on them for not understanding why people are reacting the way they are. I think right now, every female led film is an uphill battle to be a success and to gain recognition. I'm talking behind the scenes where studios would rather much have men be in these films. I don't doubt Bridesmaids behind the scenes had doubt. Every female led film is more of a victory than it may appear.

The difference between this and Bridesmaids is Ghostbusters is a brand and well known in the mainstream. Bridesmaids didn't have that baggage. The point is, people are less comfortable with women taking over their known franchise.
 
But why are people so much saying this is good for feminism but not saying anything like that for all the other female driven comedies or films. I doubt people are going to be saying Bad Moms is good for feminism

You keep bringing up the point of how it pissed people off but it's not what pushing forward women. And that's not really answering what I'm saying or disputing.
OK it pissed a lot of people off... How does that help women I Hollywood. The whole misogyny thing doesn't really have to do with what we're talking about the way it's being brought up now

I'm saying this before the box office results, It's not a backwards movement, it's not a forward or upwards movement. It seems kinda stagnant to me. If this doesn't pan out Wonder Woman is coming out and will have the focus of the marketing be a woman and if not that there is Captain Marvel and if not that then whatever comedy Melissa McCarthy makes with her husband directing next

Not everyone who dislikes this movie is a misogynists
 
I will be surprised if this isn't a hit.audence had good reaction to trailer when
i saw it before apocalypse.

Kind of strange based on what i heard for a reboot to have things that could
be called pulled from original film and have suriving original cast in cameos.
sounds more like a bit of remake with female stars instead of male stars
than a reboot.

Crazy thing is they could have down sequel with women as newest ghostbusters
and have the cameos from suriving cast be them as original characters from
previous films.
 
What are we counting as a hit? Tracking, usually unreliable is putting this between 55-60 mill. Which isn't bad at all, but I don't see this having a lot of legs with so many movies coming out in the next weeks

Def. Will be the biggest non animated comedy this summer though. Maybe even the year. What else is even coming out on the comedy front?
 
With the way the summer has been going, $50+ is good.

here is the thing if you don't like idea of female ghostbusters film you don't
have to see it.you don't have to consently bash it.good or bad it isn't going to
destroy your love for original film.
 
I don't know what amount will be considered a hit for Sony, but I think they really want to get a franchise going with this. They don't have that many other properties to work with and they want a piece of the shared universe pie. Come on, they're even going through with that MiB 23 idea!

If this movie returns there money and establishes a new universe for them to build from, they might consider it a success. We'll get a sequel, at least. If it were to surprise everyone and make a ton of movie by summers end, we might get more than one project greenlighted.

I kinda feel like this film is the sacrificial lamb. Any movie, sequel or reboot, male or female led, was going to have people worried. Nobody wanted to touch it because it has been dormant for 27 years and has that cult classic status (at least the first one). I feel like Sony had to get something out there to get this ball rolling.

Basically. If you don't want to see it, don't see it. If you do want to see it, see it. It's all good. Either way, use your time the way you feel you'd be using it best.

This has heat attached to it. Like I said, this is a famous known brand that has a lot of value for people and their childhoods. And I'll be honest, the fact that many of these people have been comfortable with men in known roles in film. So when women are in it, it disrupts something in them. Whether they want to admit it or not, it's threatening to their comfort levels because you know... world societies pretty much cater to men. When that something doesn't do that and you have a brand like Ghostbusters, you're going to get the misogynists out.

To answer your question, right now it doesn't because most likely studios are hoping this will fail. Their views probably aren't dissimilar to the people online. They would rather just have men in these types of movies. So all of this justified feminist anger will make them angry where they feel like their toys are being taken away and will dig in. If it fails, it'll continue as it usually has where they prefer men to be in these movies. And the righteous anger from feminists will just be laughed off and dismissed for various reasons and be seen as a bad thing. Women usually get the short end of the stick anyways, especially in Hollywood.

But now let's say that if this movie succeeds: Studios care about money. They'll still be misogynists, but they'll be misogynists that are making more money because they can't ignore when the market speaks. It won't change them though. Men have a monopoly over all of these things and no matter what, women get ****ed and are marginalized.

So in a sense, it's a somewhat of an illusion. It's hard to be progressive for feminism in film when the people making these decisions are greedy men. That's why we need more women in power in Hollywood. It's a pretty bad situation and seemingly hopeless. So when something prevails, despite all the odds, yeah, you're gonna gloat and you're gonna be angry. Take the victories you can get and every one helps the next female led film. So will this help feminism either way? I'll be honest. Not totally. This is just a part of where the anger comes from. They know they always have the odds stacked against them immeasurably.

I think you're still bringing up points that don't have to do with the initial point I made and I think that some of your points don't make sense. But it's whatever

It seems like we're having two separate convos. I'm talking about how is this much different than the other female led films this year or ever and you're mostly talking about why men are angry

I think it's way more impressive and "progressive" that Bridesmaids and the Heat were able to bring in over $150 mill each when they were both original properties. Bridesmaids didn't even have any big box office draws. So the fact that GB has "heat" behind it, again, doesn't mean anything to what I was trying to say
