Has it been set in stone or confirmed one way or the other where this takes place? Is it in the timeline from Apocalypse onward or the new timeline that Wolverine created? I would assume the First Class timeline since we're talking a younger class of X-Men, and it could be a good way to tie into the main series, but just wondering if there's been any word from Boone or even Kinberg on this.

Either way, nice to see New Mutants to get a boost of interest. This title in particular has interested me and Josh Boone is a proven director, so I've been interested to see his take, but for awhile, New Mutants seemed to have been...not shelved, but just quiet. But we're getting bits and pieces of information that all sounds positive so far.
The timeline that Wolverine created is the one that's from Apocalypse onward. Logan also takes place in the new timeline. So New Mutants will also be in the same post DoFP timeline where all the recent X-films have taken place. The question is whether it'll be set in the present or the past.

The film could be used as a little breather for the flagship films, filling in these decade jumps or set in the present where Logan/DP are. I would prefer the present since it would make the actual X-Men older than the New Mutants like they're supposed to be, but nothing is set in stone at this point. (Though Boone has hinted at a few things)

I'd like this to be set in present day. You know, have a 'horror meets John Hughes' / Stranger Things type movie being set in present day, for the contemporary generation of kids and dealing with contemporary problems, instead of having it be yet another 1980s throwback actually set in the 1980s and yet another period X-Men movie.

remember the rumor was both James Mcavoy and Alexandra shipp would be in
this and so far that report is turning out to be accurate.

everything is pointing to X-Men and new mutants in past and deadpool and X-force in present/near future.

Nothing has been said about the McAvoy / Shipp rumors being accurate, as far as I know.

More has been hinted that it's set in the 80s or 90s with kinberg verifying xavier is in the movie, mcavoy was told by an actress (maybe Anya Taylor-Joy) who he believes may be involved in the movie that he is in it and she told me what his role will be even though he had no idea about it.

And of course the reports that said mcavoy and shipp were in it also said about the 2 other actresses (Anya Taylor-Joy) who oddly Boone followed on Twitter soon after.

Personally I don't think this movie is being made to be X-Men the next generation as many think it is, I can see this film being made to go into a more supernatural take on the universe with a new bunch of mutants, that's what I think first and foremost this is about, not X-Men teaching a group of new mutants to be X-Men

Infact I wouldn't be surprised if there is no training them to be X-Men at all because truth be told with the way these films have set up a more populated school... The new mutants could just be random students at the school that get caught up in their own supernatural story for all we know, that's the thing about these movies they don't have to be a certain way that the source material says they should be because there are other means to pull off the same sorta idea in a different kind of way.

I also doubt they will use new mutants to fill in decade jumps, I can see them being part of it but I don't see why they would do it with something like new mutants if they didnt want to do it with X-Men.

I read somewhere that Boon replied a fan that New Mutants will take place between Apocalypse and X-Men 90s.

Funny little New Mutants fan film

I always thought this would be a group of friends that are students at Xavier's school having their own adventure. There are plenty of students at the school and I'm sure they have their own adventures going on outside of the main X-Men.

Probably not much, and for good reasons. Does Fox even hold the rights to Belasco anyway?

I would be shocked if they don't, since the determining factor seems to be who a character is associated with and I don't think anyone really remembers Belasco outside of the Limbo story. That being said, they could easily streamline the mythology with Selene (or use S'ym or N'astirh).

with demon bear seems like a good portion of plot will revolve around mirage.

Magik's history going from girl to teenager who knows if that will be touched opon

they should do a promotional campagne like this: "Don't call them X-Babies"

I am not impressed with the animation clip. Though Lockheed finally making an appearance is exciting. However this feels so X-Men: The B List.

I'm sure that's how, people thought about guardians of the galaxy and look how, that turned out I think this is what the xmen franchise needs something new and fresh

I guess that makes sense. Not that it matters, imho, since I doubt Fox is planning to introduce concepts like demons and Limbo into their cinematic universe anytime soon.

Just a hunch. Sorry, DavidHaller. :o

Creating a film that includes Demon Bear, Magik, Warlock and Lockheed would make it seem like Belasco, Limbo, Selene etc. wouldn't be that far out of the realm of possibility to be honest. Boone seems wholly invested in exploring the supernatural side of the X-Men universe.

The supernatural element is this movies hook. Without it this would just be another young mutant X-Men movie.

The X-franchise needs another director with some creative ideas and a fresh direction. Boone could breathe some new life into the franchise.

It would be fantastic if Boone can incorporate some of bill sienkiewicz's trippy visuals into the movies

Boone's tweeted about how Sienkiewicz was his favorite New Mutants artist and even bought the newly released editions of his New Mutants run, so I'm fairly certain we will see Sienkiewicz's art adapted into the film. (Hell he might have done this film specifically so he could do that)

Also looking at the concept art more in depth, the Magik that's drawn definitely is Anya Taylor Joy. Not that it's surprising or a confirmation or anything, but it's nice to see they're making concept art with her in mind for the part.

They often draw concept art with the actors they hope to get in the roles. It can be awkward if they don't get their first choice pick for the part.

Matthew Goode said when he turned up to play Ozymandias in Watchmen they had a bunch of concept art with Jude Law in the role. Luckly Goode wasn't too bothered about it.

Great news.

That said, I hope they planned these movies ahead of time, especially the timeline for this. If they were to set this up as an 80's movie to pair up with X-men Apocalypse, they have to keep in mind that the next X-men movie (if we are to believe the rumors) will jump another decade to the 90's.

Sometimes you actually have to remind them wth they're doing.
Well they do have 4 movies planned for 2018/2019 so far, so I guess they have an idea where they are going. :woot:

I hope we get to see the kids do stuff in the Mansion before they go on their adventure. Maybe they take the x-jet on a joyride or they sneak into the danger room and accidentally activate a tough training program. We need more Mansion scenes in these films.
