Well according to hollywoodreporter.

Dawson will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself. The character assumes a mentor role for the group of fledgling heroes

So she will probably have a fairly decent part in the film.

Trades reported Dawson probably because she's the third one signed on they can confirm. I think she'll be important sure, but don't think they're picking and choosing.

I'd figure that would go further against what you'd hope for.

I'm all for females in charge in the X-Universe. Especially Minority Female's. My #1 choice was Storm then Stevie but if Boone is doing his own thing Dr. Reyes or Frenzy are perfect for me.


I'd love J-LAW in charge in Dark Phoenix if she wasn't playing a historically Villain Character. That and her mouthing off about the franchise is my only beef with her.

Biggest question of all this still seems to be placement. Signs and the release of the original New Mutants run seems to indicate that it could be in the 80s/90s, though does anything actually eliminate it from being in the present? Though full disclosure, am all for going for an all out 80s/90s vibe personally.

Trank fell in love with a very specific story and version of The New Mutants, and will turn his own spin of it into a movie.

Which is pretty much the best way to do it. And the most personal and sincere. In the very best comic book adaptations you can feel that there's something very specific the filmmakers love about the characters and the stories they're telling.

Boone's comments about the characters trying to overcome the "sins of their past" part, as well as mentioning his fierce Evangelical upbringing really makes me excited. I feel like he'll really nail not only something like Rahne's religious turmoil, but the deeper themes of The Demon Bear Saga as well. I hope we really see him dig into the dual traumas between Dani and Illyana, and not just settle for making more standard YA fare.

Omg!! Im so excited to hear this news that Cecilia Reyes will be in this movie she is one character Ive always wanted to see on the big screen and I hope we see some power usage from her. NM is really shaping up, im loving everything im hearing so far. Where is the thing from that they wont have costumes I see people speaking of, I feel like Im missing something lol.
