The New New Avengers

Judging from the art in that promo, how about "the Forehead"? :awesome:

So I'm not the only one who think that pic makes her look like a transvestite?

On another note, this is the most 'eh' of all the reveals so far. She's so bland and generic a character that I just can't build up one iota of excitement over this one.

The bit of her former mini series and ongoing that Bendis wrote was actually really good, so to me, she's the only one I care about so far.

Unless this book has Steve Rogers in it, then F-it. Tomorrow is supposed to be the big shocker. My guesses....Sentry or Osborn maybe in the Iron Patriot armor (it big stretch, but I wouldn't put it past Marvel).

None of these choices really surprise me. AVENGERS is basically the 2004 NA team with Sentry swapped for Thor, to fight big threats like Hood, likely armed with cybernetic ninja dinosaurs. The NEW NEW AVENGERS will be other Bendis fave characters from NA or ALIAS in street level adventures. Frankly, I'd be surprised not to see Daredevil. Didn't Ka-Zar show up in ALIAS once? :p

Maybe this means Bendis leaves the regular Avengers book after a couple issues taking Spidey & Wolvie with him?

Bendis' AVENGERS books are the top sellers. He's on them until he, and only he, says he is finished. I mean, USM's sales have not recovered since it was relaunched, but he'll be on that until he calls it a day (or the world ends, or SMALLVILLE is canceled, whichever comes first). I imagine Spider-Man and Wolverine being there are partly editorial's demand, as Joe Q seemed set on that since 2004. I wouldn't be surprised if Bendis was given a mandate of, "any team you want, just put Spider-Man and Wolverine on it". For AVENGERS I imagine the mandate was "the big 3", so Spider-Woman is probably the only one of *his* members there. But for NEW NEW AVENGERS he could probably put Ben Urich on it and no one would say boo.

I still won't be bothering. I'll be aboard Brubaker's SECRET AVENGERS, and whatever Gage and/or Slott get.

So umm what is so different from the current titles. What I see is so far a street level team that has no place in the Avengers. Putting Sentry with them makes the team completely lobsided.

So is everyone ready for today's big scary reveal? For some reason I'm calling Taskmaster.

I don't think he'd be scary, unless Bendis is aware that Gaiman's fans will flip the **** out if he's the first at Marvel to get to write him.

And seeing as this looks to be a street level team, isn't he a little overpowered for that?

Beta Ray Bill on the Guardians of the Galaxy, though their roster is pretty huge as is.
They should have a book for Bill, Quasar, Darkhawk, and some of the other cosmic-types who are relegated to guest-star status right now.

I love the fact that Avengers are so popular now that people are actually mad that there's going to be too many titles. Fandom is awesome! Damn you, Bendis, for making the Avengers popular again!!!

The avenue to their renewed popularity was kind of irritating if you were a fan of the classic Avengers. Can't begrudge the fact that people are buying Avengers comics again, though.

a)Bendis has fans...people would still buy this book if the cast was Snap, Crackle and Pop and Captain Kangaroo
b)Pretty much every major event runs through New Avengers...want to know whats going on in the Marvel U...gotta pick up this book

I'll give you a c): a lot of their popularity came from Wolvie and Spidey being on the title.

And to all, I would say, so what? I never said it was a groundbreaking run like when Perez was on the title. In fact, I would be hard pressed to name one storyline that I would put ahead of any of his, or later, Busiek/Perez. But, using a sports metaphor, he put butts in the seats. And he kept them there for a looooooong time.

Look, I see the flaws in Bendy's run (and general writing skills) as much as the next guy (more, since I actually read them.) But, the fact that Avengers is so popular right now tells me that they were right to shake things up. And Bendis deserves a lions share of the credit.

Bottom line (for me): From a purely business aspect, Bendis gets an A+. From a creative side, maybe a C. Bendis had some good to great ideas on his run, which would have made for some truly memorable storylines if he had passed them off to someone with better writing/plotting skills.(Or someone not so in love with ninjas...)

Uh, I don't know how to respond when someone agrees with me. Are you sure?

Most comic fans don't give a s*** about the business side of things. Scratch that--most fans of anything don't give a s*** about the business side of things. All they see is that the end result is drastically different from what they enjoyed. Doesn't matter if it sold ten copies or a million because they're judging it solely on the creative level.

As for me, I appreciate that Avengers comics are selling well and people are talking about them, but I still wonder why someone couldn't have done that without so drastically removing the franchise from its recognizable identity for the past few decades.

yeah I am sure.
It was good business sense to put two of Marvel's most popular characters on the same team....creative-side I disagree with the decision. However Bendis had everyone's attention and did nothing with it. No noteworthy storylines.

I just wish he woulda done something great with his team. the Breakout arc was good, except for Jigsaw breaking Spidey's arm, The Sentry arc was really good, and the solo Cage Civil War tie-in was great for Cage, but everything else just never had any Ooomph to it.

An Avengers team with Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Wolverine shoulda been awesome, and probably woulda been under another writer's pen.

When's this dumb New New Avengers reveal coming?

How is complaining about too many Avengers titles NOT talking about the business side of things?

I dont mind a team having multiple books as long as there is a reason for each team and a distinct voice...it makes no sens to have three team books feature the same characters...yes I am talking about X-men. As long as there is a purpose behind multiple Avengers books other than they know people will buy them
