The New New Avengers

He's trapped under a car and lifts it off himself with one arm

Isn't the whole arc about magical doohickery? Maybe he got--ah, never mind, it's Bendis. 99% likely he or the artist just plain f***ed up. :o

Isn't Bendis the one who also had Daredevil lifting a car some time ago, in his run? Look, maybe cars are just really really light where Bendis is from. Y'know. Cleveland.

Well Bendis have hinted on the fact that Hawkeye have some superpowers before back in New Avengers #56. (Had to look that one up.) It's the one where The Hood's goons take away their power, Clint is down which Mockingbird remarks is kinda strange considering he doesn't have any power.

But who knows, maybe he got himself some superstrength while he was dead.

Hawkeye was once imbued with Pym particles. He used them in the same way Hank does now, rather than releasing a gas like Hank did originally. So it's entirely possible he retains a degree of that ability.

yep Clint was Goliath II for quite a few years back in the early years of the Avengers

Which means nothing as far as giving him super-strength at normal size. Pym Particles only grant super-strength when the character grows. At their normal size or smaller, they just retain their normal level of strength.

It's not really a proportional thing though is it. When Hank's at 12ft or so (his optimal fighting height I think he said back during Busiek's run when they fought Kulan Gath), he can still bench several tonnes. And like you said, his original strength is retained at ant height, which makes no sense considering its a mass shunting thing and his density changes. Its not like he's a 180lb ant when he shrinks down, yet he puts the mass of a 180lb man behind his punch. So the strength side of Hank's powers are, I think, a bit up in the air. Could be an in times of stress/adrenaline thing. Minor surge in residual Pym particles in his blood give him a boost/shunt small amount of mass into his normal sized frame (or he grew a few inches) to get a car off him.

Probably one for a Bendis talk-time interview thing I guess.

Oh yeah - as much as I don't really like Bendis-speech (every character saying "listen to me" every half sentence), man am I glad we don't have the 70's/80's manner of speech anymore. "Holly Hannah"? "Ol'Hank"? "Lick the universe"?

It doesn't matter whether it makes realistic sense for Hank to retain his normal strength at smaller sizes; the fact is, that's how his powers have been portrayed. You can do anything in comics or any other fictional reality so long as it remains internally consistent. Hank and other Pym Particle users have never had super-strength at normal size from Pym Particles for the past 40 or 50 years, so for Bendis (or, in fairness, his artist) to have it happen now as a way for Hawkeye to toss a car off himself would be kind of silly. Methinks it's just another f***-up like having Spider-Woman fly. Bendis had to go in and chalk it up to the Skrull impersonating her after the fact.

Spider-woman flying wasnt an error. Prior to the skull reveal, that was explained as HYDRA having experiemented on her and the alteration resulted in her gaining the ability to fly.

Oh, okay. Bendis had to go in and chalk it up to HYDRA experimentation after the fact, then. :)

LOL..at least its better than her suddenly being able to fly for no apparent reason . (ahem, Magma)

We are agreed on this, lol. Sometimes I have a hard time reading the old stuff because the dialog is so lame. :p

Leaping linguini, you youngsters don't have a lick of appreciation for history! :argh:

I kind of prefer that to her normal bathing suit costume, to be honest...

Ive wanted her in a new costume for a while and I quite like this look. Id prefer if she got a variant based on this in the future

She's wearing a colander on her crotch. It's awesome design, awesome design, awesome design, colander crotch.
