I think that deadline has been blown and then some...thanks a lot, you ****ers! :cmad:

Okay. I'm just curious since I've only got one more planned post with Cyborg since I figured the season would be over soon. But if it's not ending for another few weeks I can come up with some more stuff.

I understand. I working on my last Suicide Squad post of the season right now. :cmad::csad:

Once the JL arc is finished, Superman is done for the season and I'll be dropping Dr. Destiny.

Bane still has shenanigans he has to do. :ninja:

I've only got two interaction-based arcs left for Batman after this, one of which is very quick, the other one I'm going to try and spend some off time writing the setup for in advance. Aquaman only has a post left before I set him up for the end season cliffhanger.

I think that what I'm gonna shoot for is an end on Halloween. I don't anticipate, nor do I wish for, an end date past October 1st.

Aaaaand, that's a wrap for the Suicide Squad this season. I know I only been doing the story with them for a little over three months now, but it's been one of the funnest stretches of solo posting I've ever had.

Looking forward to season 3.

Halloween?

Okay, I can do some stuff in a month and a half then.

...

Yeah, I wasn't thinking. For some reason I was under the impression it was this month, not next month. I also haven't alot of sleep lately, so go figure.

Let's just shoot for September 30th. End of the month.

Damn it man, stop playing with my emotions!:cmad:

Nah...that's cool.

Dang it....didn't realize someone had used Midnighter before. Edit coming to that last post. I'm moronic.

*Grumble*

Easy edit added in.

.Character you wish to portray: Sandman (Noah "Monk" Jefferson)

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes:

Geokenisis: Sandman can mentally manipulate the earth and soil in his vicinity, causing it to rumble, change shape, levitate, or burst forth to attack his enemies. He is also able to produce seismic waves which have the effect of small, localized earthquakes. Sand can transform the consistency of earth and rock, tap into lava flows, and create shapes out of solid rock.
Silicate Form: Sandman has the ability to transform into a malleable sand-like substance which can be hardened, dispersed, or shaped according to his will, something akin to a type of geokinesis limited to sand and small rock particles. Even if his body is blown apart, he is capable of reforming it. He can pass his molecules through solid objects that contain traces of silica and is able to travel through the earth as easily as one would swim through water.

Earth Affinity: Sandman is mentally and empathically tuned to the Earth. He can feel when it's in pain and all that happens on it. The Earth in its way speaks to him, and he discerns knowledge from what it tells him.

Precognitive Nightmares: Sandman possesses a limited form of precognition, which manifests as occasional prophetic nightmares.
Other: Detective skills, Martial Artist, High Intelligence
Weapon: Gas Glove

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):

Noah Jefferson was born on February 12th, 1981. His father was the first African American County Executive in the state of Maryland. Noah grew up on a rich mansion estate in the affluent African American Prince Georges County suburbs of Washington, D.C. Complete with butlers and maids. He attended private schools in the District of Columbia and excelled in literary, history, and science subjects. He was quiet and reserved compared to his otherwise rowdy classmates. This earned him the nickname "Monk." He spent 3 years (age 11-13) living in China while his father worked as a diplomat and ambassador in the region. It was here that he discovered the arts of Kung-Fu and Tai Chi, a study which he continued when they returned to the states despite protests from his parents.

After he graduated from High School he completed degree programs in World Languages, History, Earth Science, and Chemistry at Georgetown University over the next 10 years. During this time he grew disillusioned with the political life his family lived and he grew apart from them while his older brother Joe Jefferson was running for Mayor of Baltimore. He dedicated most of his time to his academic and martial arts studies. This was also when he decided to fight crime. He spent most of his time alone and therefore had more time to observe the world and see all of the dirty things about it. He was ultimatley inspired by a trip to the miliatary antiques store where he saw a refurbished WWI gas mask, gas gun, and uniform on a mannequin in the store. He remembered a hero he had read about from the Justice Society of America. The Sandman. He thought such a fearsome image would be advantageous against the criminal element. He purchased the items and began making modifications himself.

He modified parts of the gas gun into a specialized gas glove to be more portable. He created a nerve gas that put victims into a semi-paralyzed sedated state. While trying to create a "silocoid gun" in his laboratory, a 10 second long earthquake shook things enough to drop a batch of chemical agents, and release the nerve gas compound. The explosion resulting from the blast would have killed him, but the pieces of his body transformed into the Silicate Form and reformed. Following this incident he took to the streets fighting crime, protecting the innocent and the oppressed.

In his civilian life he works as a world language and culture expert for the Department of Homeland Security. This allows him to travel the world and seek new adventures on occasion. He lives in a 2 bedroom basement apartment in Northwest Washington, D.C.
.The burning question - Why this character?: One of my favorite heros. Who doesn't get enough love. I'm a big fan of the Vertigo Sandman Mystery Theater Series, and well as the Gaiman Sandman. And I'm a big fan of Justice Society of America as well.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Apart from a Golden Age character being placed in a modern setting, I'll be incorporating elements from all of the Sandman incarnations, including Dream. And I'll have him travel the globe and have him do more adventures dealing with magic, occult, and historical myths and legends as opposed to purely big city crime related stories. I also plan to introduce new characters.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Frequent activity, cooperative and easy to get along with, interested in telling good stories.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

<He's dreaming again. It's in black and white this time. He's standing at the altar looking at a beautiful woman in a white gown. He's never seen her before in his life but at this moment he is in love with her. The minister is going through the normal wedding procedures, but he isn't paying attention. He can't take his eyes off of her. He sees galaxies into her eyes and he can't help but to smile. BOOM! A gunshot. He takes his eyes off of her for one second to look out into the crowd. The brides side is engaged in trench warfare with the grooms side. He looks back and the woman is still there, but she doesn't look the same... she's melting!?!>

"Diane!"

<Monk shoots his torso up and screams. Another violent awakening. He is confused for a moment, until he realizes he is safe in his own bed. He retrieves his glasses from the night stand to the right of him and observes the alarm clock.>

"Half past five? That's absurd. I slept 13 hours straight... Diane?"

<Noah searches his brain but it comes up empty for any Diane's he knew. He deducts he must have subconiously picked that name for the girl of his dreams.>

"But... she didn't even look like a Diane?"

<Noah scratches his head. This was the first of the strange dreams in a long while. This one bothered him particularly. It started out so well and ended so horribly. And to make matters worse, he may have to sit through it a few more times before he even learns what it means. Wesley shakes his head, letting the matter rest for now and stands up out of bed. After a quick stretch, he relaxes his body and slowly begins to break up into silica particles. Starting with his feet and working it's way up, he disappears through his floor into the earth below.>

Hmm. Everything looks good. You clearly know the character and your sample's rather solid.

The only drawback is that Sandman has already been established, abiet vaguely, as a former member of the now defunct Justice Society. He was an outsider to the inner group of Alan Scott, Ted Grant, and the others.

If you can roll with that and still want to play Wesley, Belvedere's story from Season 1 dealt with this. Read if you'd like, and familiarize yourself with his take on the JSA's past (it's only 16 posts long and Sandman only made sporadic appearances): http://forums.superherohype.com/search.php?searchid=9152739

That's fine. I'd like to play a younger character and maybe even re:introduce some of the outside characters from the JSA. So I'll rewrite the application to be for Sandy Hawkins or a new person to take up the Sandman mantle. Also, I can't get that link to work for me.

EDIT: Edits made to application to be a new character who was inspired by Dodd's Sandman.

Superman has now said "Bah." I hope you're happy, MB. I do it all for you, babe.

EDIT: Edits made to application to be a new character who was inspired by Dodd's Sandman.

App looks good to me. Only thing I'd say was remove the "<" when you post. It's not really needed.

If MB doesn't have anything to add, then I say thou art APPROVED!

Thanks. I'll just leave the "<" for the parts where he's dreaming to set it apart from "reality" if that's okay. I'll post later this evening. And read up on some of the earlier ones to familiarize myself with y'alls stories. Looking forward to this.

Works for me. Just keep in mind that this season is going to wrap up by the end of this month, so don't get involved in too big of an arc.

BTW, how'd you find out about the RPGs? Just a random internet search?

Tv tropes has a section for play-by-post RPs and I ctrl+f'ed my way here with the word "superhero." also, I'll just post kind of a year one solo story before the season wraps up.

Character you wish to portray:

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the line

.Powers and physical attributes: Skinner Sweet has enhanced speed and strength. His abilities are similar to a very powerful vampire except he is not harmed by sunlight. When he transforms his jaw unhinges and he gains long fangs. His fingers grow long and razor sharp. His bite also has a venom that paralyzes humans.

He has two known weakness: gold and the effects of a moonless night.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Skinner was an American outlaw who was infected by a vampire banker named Percy. Soon after being turned into a vampire he was locked away in a coffin that was dropped in a lake. He would eventually get out and start to kill everyone that wronged him.

He would be nearly killed again in a mine explosion but get out in time to become a major player in 1930s Las Vegas. With the help of another older vampire he would help destroy a cabal of vampires who were running the city. For many years Skinner stayed in Vegas under the name Jimmy Smoke.

After that he traveled to Europe and got involved in the global struggles of World War 2. It was during this time that Skinner made enemies with some very old vampires from Eastern Europe. A group of elders plotted to destroy him and nearly got the job done. They chased him all the way to India before seemingly killing him on a remote mountain pass.

His left eye was forever lost in that fight but Skinner managed to stumble on a remote village where a monk nursed him back to life. It was during this time that Skinner made his own discoveries about Karma. He by no means planned to give up his devious ways but understood he needed to find some kind of balance.

After many years he decided to return to America. He arrived during the 1960s. He has been around ever since. He has taken many names during this time and has been connected to many incidents. He still has a tendency to get into trouble but every time he commits some terrible crime, he sets out to right some other wrong in the world. His favorite hobby is killing other vampires and creatures that might try to destroy him. Skinner figures it won't hurt to limit the amount of enemies he has that could actually do some harm.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Skinner Sweet is all sorts of amazing. In a time where vampires were all pretty and glittery, he is gritty, crude and scary. I love his style and his attitude.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Two major changes. First of all this is a modern day Skinner Sweet that has had over 75 years of new adventures to build from. Also I have given him a certain level of morality though I plan on this being fairly bent.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: I am a very good storyteller that happens to be a fairly decent writer. That means that sometimes I am better at ideas than getting those ideas expressed. I am willing to get those ideas out there for others to explore.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

You ever hear people talk about certain streets you just shouldn't walk down at night. Those kind of dark alleyways where trouble lurks around every shadow. Well Gotham is a whole city made up of streets like that. Why bother even paying attention to where you are in the city? Its all dark and none of it is up to any good. As a rule Skinner tried to avoid Gotham, but damn karma had other plans.

On this particular night, Clove Street was just that more dangerous than all the other streets in the city. That is because the predator that played in the shadows on this night was not just a creep, but he was a creep of the vampir persuasion. His name was Devon and the fact that he was a vampire was not even the least desirable quality he had.

You see Devon was an artist of sorts. He fell in love before they even had sound or color in the picture. It was almost a fetish for the guy and his favorite subject to capture behind the lens was death. So for years this guy has been making every sort of snuff you can imagine. Skinner even watched a couple minutes of one of his films in the 70s. By that point he had seen enough death that watching it on TV seemed a little pointless.

The truth is Skinner didn't care that Devon had killed hundreds of people for his art. He didn't even really care that he was currently stalking some foolish young thing that had chosen to walk down the wrong dark Gotham street. What Skinner cared about was this man was obviously bad and Skinner's karma needed a kick in the ass. Stopping one little vampires reign of terror was just the ticket.

So with the swiftest of motions Skinner jumped off the fire escape in front of Devon's waiting camera. He hardly made a sound but Devon's startled exclamation was enough to scare off the pretty little thing. Skinner smiled and looked at Devon who had already brought out his fangs. Devon started to lower the camera.

"Keep that thing on Spielberg. Trust me its going to make quite the final act." and with that Skinner Sweet did what he did best. Devon had spent so much time hunting frail little humans things, he never had a chance. Soon enough his soul was going to hell and Skinner was going through his pockets. Skinner looked at the camera and crushed it under his boots.

"Just my luck some little kid would find what you do for living and get freaked out for life. Than all this violence would have been a stupid waste." Skinner said with a chuckle. He popped a sucker in his mouth and headed down the road. With any luck he could find a pretty girl and some strong booze before the new moon.

It occurs to me that I was kind of tired when I wrote that roleplay sample. If I need to write another one that is cool. I also have no idea where to start once you approve me. Is this season finishing up?

One more question before I post. What's the ruling on NPCs? Is there a limit? Say I wanted to use The Face, another Sandman (Wesley Dodds, Sandy Hawkins, Dream) Hourman, or some such person? What constitues an "important" npc? How much involvement is allowed?Much thanks.

I would say that if you feel that the character could possibly be played by someone else in the future, hesitate to use them. The only one of the three that you mentioned that has been used as a PC is Hourman/Rick Tyler in an arc that was done earlier in the season, for instance.

But if they're characters that are important to your character and probably wouldn't affect anyone else, go right ahead and use them to your discretion. It just depends on what you want for the story that you're telling, and whether or not characters have been used.

Important NPC's would constitute as characters that are likely to be played. And even then, they're not necessarily "banned" from being used, we just don't encourage it be done on a frequent basis. The only NPC's you should never, ever use is someone that is being played, like Superman.

First off, great choice. I've been meaning to get into American Vampire for awhile now, so personally speaking, I like the idea of the vampire element being explored in the game. :word:

It occurs to me that I was kind of tired when I wrote that roleplay sample. If I need to write another one that is cool. I also have no idea where to start once you approve me. Is this season finishing up?

Second off, there's no need to redo your sample, it was fine and more than worthy of approval.

The only addendum that I would offer for your sample is that we generally try and color or bold any character dialogue, so that it can be easily picked out in a post. It's not a requirement, just a handy little tip for easier reading. The fonting controls are at the top of the reply box for writing posts, if you want to do that. Other than that, I think you're good to go.

The season is set to finish up on October 1st, so you have a little bit of time to establish Skinner before we wrap. So if you're game, APPROVED!

Fzzyslpprs, just in case you're not aware, the Ultimate universe's version of Solomon Grundy was Umberto Maroni, son of Sal Maroni. He was killed last season and Edward Nygma dumped his remains in Slaughter Swamp, where he somehow came back to life as a zombie hulk who eats corpses. Because they're yummy and that's just how he rolls.

MB I apologize. I'm aggravated at myself for this. :csad:
