Yea...I'm coming back.

.Screen name: Carnage27

.Character you wish to portray: Ted Kord/The Blue Beetle

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: Ted has no powers of his own, but when activated, the Scarab grants him vast super-human abilities. These manifest through a metallic armor that the Scarab produces. In the armor, Ted can track anything that produces energy, whether it be biological, technical, or magical. Ted can also scan anyone he comes in contact with, allowing him to track thought patterns and medical data. Ted can also tap into communications networks, allowing him to track police scanners, telephone calls, etc.

While covered in the armor, Ted receives super-human strength, protection from extreme conditions, including the vacuum of space, and the power of flight.

Blue Beetle’s main form of offensive firepower is through energy manipulation. He has the ability to fire energy from his fingertips, or from a blaster cannon he can form through the armor. Kord can also make energy constructs such as swords, shields, claws, etc. The Scarab can also tailor said energy to its enemy, targeting weaknesses.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Ted Kord grew up in a normal, middle class family in Northern New Jersey, the son of a police detective and a nurse. He was a fairly normal boy, if not smarter than most of his classmates. Throughout his entire life, he was fascinated on history and archeology. Growing up, Ted was known as the class clown, always joking, and never serious.

When he graduated high school, he headed to Gotham University, to study under the best archeology professor in the country, Dan Garrett. Kord was a standout student at Gotham U from day one, and Garrett took a special interest in the boy.

The first semester of his senior year, tragedy struck Ted’s life. His father and mother were killed in a suspicious car accident believed to be caused by one of the many criminals his father had put away. His mentor acted quickly and took his student in. The event marked a distinct change in Ted. He lost his trademark humor, and was often distant and aloof.

Kord’s life changed on a trip to Iraq with Garrett as the professor’s teaching assistant. During the trip, the professor found the tomb of the great king Gilgamesh, and inside Ted found a scarab artifact. That night, the camp was attacked by Ra’s al Ghul’s men, who killed Garrett in order to find the scarab, which had unknowingly bonded with Kord. The anger at the death of his adopted father and mentor caused the scarab to activate and tear the terrorists apart.

Since that day, Ted has been wandering the globe aimlessly, experiencing long periods of blackouts and memory loss, each time waking up with blood on his hands. Little does he know that he’s currently wrapped up in a saga that predates the majority of human history. Through the unfolding of this saga, Ted will realize the potential within him, and he will throw off the shackles of servitude and rise to become a hero in the UDC universe.

.The burning question - Why this character?: I started to get interested in the Blue Beetle after finding out Night Owl from Watchman was based on the character. I really like the Jamie Reyes version’s powers and how the Scarab is more of a symbiote computer, so I mixed Ted with Jamie.

Also, I started him up last season, got bored, and dropped him. I attribute it to picking up a character without planning him out first, something I’ve done a couple times. But for the past few weeks I’ve been wanting to pick him back up and fix my past mistakes. I now have a solid plan for the character and a definite direction with an arc that will take him from an out of control Jekyll and Hyde character to a defined hero.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Ted doesn’t have control of the scarab. It’s own will is overpowering the weaknesses in Ted and is asserting control. It was made and programmed by someone in the deep past. Someone who may not even be human. And it’s power is unnatural.

Ted also won’t be a billionare and a clear cut hero. He hates crime, but he’s ruthless when it comes to stopping it, at least at this point.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: A dedicated player and a solid RPer with a story that could cause Ted to cross paths with other heroes in the UDC universe in surprising ways.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

I wake with a start as the wind rustles over the flimsy cardboard box I apparently was using for a blanket. I try to shake the sleep out of my head and gain my bearings. Last thing I remember I was strolling the streets of Munich, and before that I could have sworn I was in Tokyo. Ever since that night in Iraq my life has become a disjointed, bloody mess.

The scarab calls on me and I give myself over to it, because it says it needs to punish the wicked on this planet. It’s what my father always wanted. The power to destroy the evil that covers the Earth. The power to punish those that oppress and kill. And now his son has it. And I’m damn well going to use it.

But there is a voice in the back of my mind, a voice that seems to be shrinking every day; a voice that calls for me to fight the scarab instead of giving my being over too it. It calls for me to be myself, to fight injustice the right way, instead of the way I’m going now.

Ted, the scarab calls, it is time.

“Let’s go then,” I respond as armor springs from the small of my back and covers my body and my consciousness fades out.

.Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype?:

Thanks man. I'll keep with it this time. I think I've got a pretty good story to tell, I think.

Also I've got a question, I'm reading through the current season right now, but has Checkmate been used at all?

Apologies for my absence lately. Life has been taking priority and I've been having trouble getting in the posting mind-set. I'll have some stuff up this weekend.

Created a page for The Turtle in the New Ultimate DC RPG section of the Superherohype! RPG Wiki wetpaint page.

Heya Carnage, just a quick FYI, the last time the Comedian was used, he was a hired hitman for Lex Luthor, responsible for the assassination of Adrian Veidt and hired to wipe out the rest of his fellow Watchmen. And then it was implied that Luthor's new problem-solver, Deathstroke, was going to kill him in order to cover their tracks.

So, I guess the Hype's being pretty stupid with the lag from all the posters squawking about Bane and Catwoman in the new movie, ironically resulting in the Hype eating a Bane IC post. Kind of killed the creative juices for this evening, as I have no desire whatsoever to retype it tonight.

I'm just going to say that Clark and his stuff involving STAR Labs is going on at a different time than the the shenanigans with the Atom and Pammy (that stuff is happening at the Metropolis STAR Labs, right?).

Batman movie quotes, especially from Burton's films, make me :awesome:

No our arc is going on at an undisclosed location so if you want to have something going on at Star Labs go for it.

Gotten into Fables recently, and I remembered JB had introduced them here. So I figured why the hell not.

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG
Character Application

.Character you wish to portray: Boy Blue

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Blue is a Fable, being from the Fables' universe, known as Homelands, and is virtually immortal. As long as his nursery rhyme "Little Boy Blue" is known and popular for the humans, he will live forever.

Other than that, Blue has no true powers of his own. However, he was entrusted with the Witching Cloak during the closing days of the war in the Homelands. The Cloak allows him to teleport, is virtually impenetrable(the only exceptions being extremely powerful magical weapons), and can render Blue invisible when covered completely by the cloak.

Boy Blue is also a highly trained warrior from his days in the Homelands War. He keeps himself in fighting shape, and practices his swordsmanship and archery everyday.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Boy Blue was a happy lad during the days before the war, and was Old King Cole's favorite trumpet player, and was housed in his castle. While there, he learned archery and swordsmanship from Robin Hood and his Merry Men. After The Adversary, the evil force that rose to take over the Homelands, declared war on all the Fables' homes, Boy Blue immediately enlisted into the army that opposed him.

There, he served with Robin and his Men in Colonel Bearskin's company. It was here that Blue became one of the war's greatest heroes, being one of the few that volunteered to stay behind and cover the retreat of the Fables into Earth's universe, ensuring that as many Fables could escape as possible.

The night before the fateful battle, a final Fable arrived at the fort which the last portal was located. She was Red Riding Hood, and she would change Blue's life forever. She was wounded, and he tended her wounds in preparation for the journey the next day. Unfortunately, love at first sight set in, yet each knew what their fates were the next day.

In the morning, Bearskin gave Blue the Witching Cloak, with orders to teleport to the ship heading through the portal as the battle drew to a close. The Colonel wanted Blue to be happy and to be with Red. And Blue did as he was told. He fought bravely, but one by one his oldest friends died at the hands of The Adversary's minions. And as Colonel Bearskin fell, signifying Blue was the only one left, he teleported to the ark of the Fables.

But tragedy would strike Blue yet again. It was on the ship that he found that Red, who had no idea of Bearskin's plan, refused to live without Blue, and stayed behind.

Once the last of the refugee Fables reached their new home in new York City, known as Fabletown, Blue became part of the Fabletown police department in an attempt to stem his survivor's grief and atone for his failures.

Now, Blue has been on Earth in Fabletown for over one hundred and fifty years, and is still in a deep depression, though he only lets his closest friends know it. But he's finally had enough, and he will push himself in a radical way for a Fable, but even that may not prepare him for the horrors that lie ahead for his race.

.The burning question - Why this character?: I've become enamored with the Fables Universe, and I'd love to write my own story about one of the characters, and have them possibly be involved with the rest of the DC Universe.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Blue will put on a public face of happiness and normalcy, but by himself or with his closest friends he will be revealed to be a man saddled with extreme survivors guilt. Sullen and morose, he searches for any way to redeem himself in his own eyes, and will drive him to new ways to accomplish that goal.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: An interesting group of characters, whom have never been in the actual DC Universe before, which offers some interesting interaction possibilities.

Also, I think I've got an interesting story to tell.

.Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more:

It's been a hundred fifty-five years. One hundred fifty-five painstaking years here on Earth, and I'm not sure I can take it anymore. The everyday, ho-hum life in Fabletown is horribly boring, even for a detective. I've had one case that was anything close to interesting, and it was solved in days. Of course my boss has been missing for months, but at this point there are no leads.

I'm on the verge of doing something desperate, and my roommate Pinocchio has noticed. He hasn't said anything, but he hasn't let me out of his sight when I'm not at work. It's gotten annoying, but I understand where he's coming from. He's been a good friend since we've come here.

But I'm not thinking about killing myself. No, that's taking the easy way out. That's not going to repay my debts. There's something much more insane on my mind.

I just hope it works.

.Preferred roster pic? (No preference, and one will be chosen for you):

Crap, sorry I missed this post, Andy.

Who did that post? Because I can kinda cover it up that Checkmate "saved" him in order to have another asset.

You're approved for Boy Blue, Carnage.

Is Zatanna a blank so far?
MB made a passing reference to her in a Batman post as one of his childhood friends obsessed with "backwards speak," so yes, for all intents and purposes.
