Hey guys, can i ask you a question about the reboot?

Do the current issues of Batman and Superman count, or are they throwing them out of the window and starting with a new continuity? This whole thing is a mess!

One can't "count" without the other.

Whatever count means.

So what actually happened with John Stewart and the planet Xanshi??

I keep reading allusions to Stewart's " big mistake" but I don't know what happened....

(calling Anubis)

Guys i heard a lot of people are excited about Animal Man and Swamp thing but i've never heard of them before. What are they about? They sound like obscure cult like franchises.

I could see Animal man but you never heard of Swamp Thing? He had a couple of movies back in the early 80's. Most well known Swamp based monster on the planet. :o

Swamp thing is an Elemental Spirit or something like that. Had a most epic run by Alan Moore in the early 80's. Though I hear the new writer is pretty much abandoning all the stuff he did.

Animal man is another character, very similar to Swamp Thing. Where as Swamp thing represents the extra dimensional force known as the Green, Animal Man reps for the Red. He can take on the abilites of any animal in the vicinity. He's been able to regrow limbs with the power of a lizard, to taking on the power of a GD Suneater. (That's a space faring animal that eats suns. :o )

Here's their wiki's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Man
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swamp_Thing

They're cult favorites because they've both had epic runs by two of the greatest comic writers in the business in the aforementioned Moore for Swamp Thing and Grant Morrison for Animal Man.

I would highly recommend you go check out those runs. not to get you up to speed on the characters or nothing, but just because if you're gonna be a comic fan, you should read that s**t.

Thanks a lot! I think i'll start with Animal Man, his concept intrigues me.

Oh, one more thing. What's with all those veins in the AM covers? Is that the "red" power he has?

That stuff is new to me. I think it's supposed to represent the connection to all animals thing he has going on. Could be allegory, could be literal. Anythings possible if you don't happen to be Batman or Green Lantern at this point. :o

Does the name Martian Manhunter mean something? I've always been a little interested in the character, but the name troubles me from some reason. Why would a superhero on Earth, regardless of where he's from, call himself a Manhunter? Kind of sounds like a Sci-Fi themed gay bar.

Says the guy with the username of a frat boys go to move on a drunken townie. :p

LOL! Yeah, I've been meaning to ask who I need to talk to about a name change. I made up that name when I was 14 and I can't for the life of me remember why.

So... who do I ask about a name change? One of the mods?

And what about Martian Manhunter's name?

And fyi, the Shocker 9000 has never failed to please.;)

When he first realized he was stuck on Earth, he took on the identity of a cop/detective.

He didn't literally blow it up but it was his fault the planet blew up because he was acting like a *****e bag.

Added to my reading list. Thanks!

Yeah, he actually does hunt people.

He's a detective to rival Batman and the Question. Though being a mind reader I suppose he kind of cheats. He's one of the "Big Seven" of the DCU. (At least he was before this Sodding Reboot)

And if you want a name change, ask a Mod. If they can't do it for you, they can at least point you to the one that can. I know Drakon was the go to guy, but he's rarely on anymore. (Or at least I never see him.)

When he first appeared in the Silver Age he took on the identity of a cop/detective.

Yeah I actually know about that from watching the New Frontier movie. I'm wondering more about his title as Martian Manhunter, rather than his John Jones identity.

Cool, thanks. I knew he was a detective. Most of what I know about DC is from cartoons and Wikipedia. Now that I think about it, the name Manhunter does make sense for a detective. Is he getting his own book after the reboot? I might check it out if he is.

He's gonna be leading the new Stormwatch book. They merrged the Wildstorm U (That's the Authority, Wild C.A.T.s, etc.) with the DCU and they decided to shove him on a team with them that apparently predates the League.

It will be written by Paul Cornell of Captain Britain and MI13 and the Current run on Action Comics, so, it should be good. Still....don't sit well with me that J'onn's place as a League founder has been taken by f**kin' Cyborg.

Eh. All his best stuff was with the JLA. So, if you're looking, try Morrison's run, Waid's run, Kelly had a phenomenal story with J'onn during his run.

Ah, that is lame.

Thanks for the info.

One of the SDCC panels mentions that in the JLA book they mention stuff about J'onn though. We don't know what yet they wouldn't spoil it to us. But there is a reason that there is only 1 alien on the JLA (Superman) and not two at first.
