X-2 was never really a proper Final Fantasy. Just a bit of fun. XI was heavily restricted in terms of who could enjoy it due to it being strictly online.

Neither of them were true Final Fantasy games. FFXII is.

It will definately have more of an impact than the previous two.

FFX-2 sold fairly, and I definitely enjoyed it. FFXII and it's rumored spin-off will probably rock too. I havent seen any current-gen JRPGs that'll hurt FFXII in anyway.

I don' think they should have bothered with either. These kind of sub game offers affect the reputation of the whole franchise as many new gamers will only ever have played those two on the back of reputation and won't try future games as a result.

It wasn't a total disaster but FF should be setting the standards for the best games (like previous efforts have done) out there rather than just being enjoyable games. Otherwise it loses its position as a must have game when other games are catching up fast.

I think FFXII is still setting the standards in RPGs. While most series are re-using the same battle engine and are just upgrading to next-gen, FF has been proving that so-called "Next-Gen" RPGs aren't that much better than what the PS2 can do.

Yeah, I think XII (& XIII) seem to be a return to the old standards so it's looking good for the future.

Daaayum! Pretty big bump.

Anyway, to get the ball rolling (again), I want everyone to list all the FF games they've played, ordered from most favorite to least favorite, or "most hated" if you prefer, depending on if you're a glass half full or half empty type of person. AND GIVE REASONS WHY. Lists are always boring if no one is talking about them.

  • VI - Easily my favorite of the pre-FFVII games, which automatically makes it my favorite (and best) overall.
  • IX - Great game. Better than its contemporaries. Has the "soul" of classic JRPGs, with the then modern tech to make it sing. Represents everything I like about the series and the JRPG genre.
  • XII - Most forward-thinking Final Fantasy. The backlash against it is a shame, because another FF like this, with a bit more polish more cohesive story probably would have been spectacular.
  • XI - I enjoyed this game way more than I thought I would. I ended up playing it for over a year.
  • Tactics - I don't have much to say about Tactics other than I really, really liked it!
  • IV - The first truly extraordinary game in the series in my opinion.
  • VII - I actually used to like VII a lot. But unfortunately its idiotic fandom and Square ****ing it out for so long really soured me on it. Shame.
  • V - Certainly not Final Fantasy at its best, but I do have a soft spot for this one for some reason.
  • XIII - This is still fresh in everyone's mind. I don't need to explain why it's ****.
  • X - I liked Wakka! But that's pretty much all I liked about this game.
  • III - Messed around with it on my DS. Seemed kind of dull and unremarkable.
  • Crystal Chronicles - I didn't enjoy this game at all. I feel like I should probably revisit this sub-series at some point though.

Ok, let's get that brain to work and let's see what I can remember.

Trying to list it as good as I can.

FFVII/FVIII/FIX - I'd have to say I like them all equally. They were all great games that offered a different flavor. FVII was my first RPG and just blew me away. FFVIII looked like a hundred times more beautiful and I just really liked the Mercenary School concept. FFIX was back to the roots, simply old-school. Vivi is easily one of my favorite FF characters.
FFVI - Started to play this on an emulator on my PC. I think easily spent 20 hours on it. Then my save file got corrupted. Never went back to it since. It was a great game, but I was just too pissed.
FFVII Crisis Core - Not your typical FF RPG, but a really fun action adventure game, that let me dive back into the world that introduced me to Final Fantasy, with just amazing graphics and outstanding music.

>_>

<_<

...

I shed tears during the ending cinematic. T_T

[YT]y7Oowm3I810[/YT]

FFX - It was the first FF that had the entire adventure be a bit more linear, but I still had a great experience. I really didn't like how you could make your characters overpowered. I thought you'd have to do it to stand a chance against the last boss. Well, imagine how disappointed I was when I faced the very last boss and killed him with a single hit from Yuna's staff... Yeah...
Final Fantasy Tactics - Fun game. Never finished it. It's one of those games where I got stuck at some point, decided to go on a break and well... the break still continues. >_<
FFIV/FFI/FFXII/FFX-2 - I'm gonna cut it short here. All games I started and never got around to finish. Either I got bored, was too busy or got distracted by another game. I'd like to eventually finish them all. But nowadays, I just barely find the time. Ah, if I could just be a kid again and back in school.
Dirge of Cerberus - Eh, it was okayish. Nice to visit FFVII again. Nothing really groundbreaking. I think with titles like this, they need to let developers work on it, who are specialized in whatever type of game they want it to be. Like Kojima letting Platinum Games work on Metal Gear Rising, because they are simply specialized in over-the-top action.
FFXIII - Waste. Of. Time. Seriously, never before did I hate to finish a FF game. I was literally dragging myself through it. And at the end I still didn't have much of a clue of what the hell was going on. Tried the Demo of XIII-2. Yeah... I'm not going back to that world. Now hopefully Square will stop with their shenanigans and finally work to get Versus XIII finished.

Some new (light) details on Versus, courtesy of Andriasang:

Nomura was a bit more open with Final Fantasy Versus XIII details, saying the following:

  • Nomura recently did the latest check of the game. The visual expression capability has improved from the trailer that was released last year.
  • The game has a mix of real time and Visual Works pre-rendered CG. The ratio is 7 real time to 3 pre rendered.
  • The scene where Noctus and Stella meet for the first time has been made into a pre-rendered scene. This is because it's an example of an area where adding player control would not have a big effect.
  • Square Enix won't be holding an event ala last year's January press conference this year. However, Nomura said that he'd like to make some sort Versus related announcement/showing this year, although he can't say when or where.
  • The next time we see Versus XIII, we will get a look at it being controlled on actual hardware.

I haven't played that many of them and have completed properly only 3, which happen to be my favourites. Back then if I got stuck on any game on a stupid part I wouldn't have the patience to finish it.

FFVIII - FFVII was best game ever at the time. I thought this was even better. Couldn't believe how good the opening cinematic was (& still is compared to some games 13 years later). Prefer the slightly more realistic looks to the characters and liked the main characters & story. This and VII were the ones that were top of gaming to me at the time of release. After that it was a gradual decline with many other big game franchises now deservedly more prominent.
FFVII - Once you get into this game it was crazy. So much more epic than other games of its time. Sephiroth was a great villain.
FFX - A kind of Final Fantasy lite...did enough of the stuff that the others did to make me want to play through and enjoy the whole game. Nothing too groundbreaking though.

FFXIII - Not fair to judge as I got stuck somewhere where I was ridiculously underpowered and had just bought 20 new games so just went straight onto the next one and haven't yet gone back to finish it up. I bought PS3 at launch just for this game and in the end never even bought it for the PS3!
FFIX - Also not fair to judge. Think I would have enjoyed it but the return to FFVII type cartoonish visuals straight after VIII and the main character having a tail off meant I didn't get into it enough.
FFXII - Hardly had a chance to start as I had moved on consoles by then and it was too inconvenient to play a long game on a different machine. I think this one might have been quite high up the list if I'd played it.
FFXI - it didn't work and I never got it checked out!

Edit: Forgot FFX-2 - quite easily forgettable but I think I finished it. Can hardly remember anything about it.

Pretty pathetic FF record looking back on it haha. I think my list is very biased by circumstance and how old or into games I happened to be at the time so don't pay too much attention to it!

Square Enix Hints At Final Fantasy XIII-3

The director of FF13 suggests it's coming, but admits the FF10 remake still has no projected release

No further content will be released for Final Fantasy XIII-2, but that doesn't mean Square Enix is done with Gran Pulse and Cocoon
In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Andriasang), FFXIII and XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama dropped some hints that we may soon be adventuring with Lightning once more.

The [FFXIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off.

When asked if whether Final Fantasy XIII would be a focus at the the upcoming Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event, he replied, "The [FFXIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off."

Speculation about the possibility of a third instalment in Lightning's story has been rife since Final Fantasy XIII-2 ended with the words "to be continued", but this was later suggested to refer to DLC. Now though it seems the original idea could be closer to the mark.

Thankfully we won't have to wait too long to find out; the anniversary event mentioned by Toriyama is scheduled to take place at an art gallery in Shibuya from August 31.

Despite the exciting realms of possibility this opens up, there are some drawbacks. Firstly, while it was never likely the team were going to start work on a Final Fantasy VII remake anytime soon, this pretty much confirms it isn't a priority.

Secondly, Toriyama had some ominous comments for anyone waiting for the HD remake of Final Fantasy X. It seems a release date is still nowhere near being set, as he explained, "Regarding HD conversions, there is a lot to look into, so please wait a bit more."

SE, please MOVE ON from FF XIII. Why do they seem obsessed with that game and I roll my eyes at them making it a trilogy. They need to friggin bring out VS XIII and FFX HD already. Those are the two FF projects I want to play

hehe put's that up after I put it up in the thread for the actual game of XIII -2.
oh well. can't say i didn't see that game coming. cause i called it long time ago.

not to mention a VII HD remake..........

they KNOW that would be a huge hit........yet they coyly refuse to do it.........

Seriously, I think they only keep making FFXIII games, because they already have most of the assets for the game and they need to earn their money back.
