The Official "Admit you were wrong about Craig" thread

brosnan is getting way too much crap.

he looked perfect for the role and his bond was athletic (while not muscled like craig's), cool and confident, and always in control.

now craig did much better than i thought, but to say he's better than connery and even brosnan isn't vindicated in my opinion.

Unfortunately, not too many people have the capacity to acknowledge Craig was a great Bond, while also acknowledging that the previous 20 Bond films are what give Casino Royale any credence or worth.

Oh, I will.

I'll always hold the Connery flicks, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and the Dalton flicks dear to my heart. I wouldn't want to live by Craig alone, and it's not like CASINO ROYALE is the only worthwhile entry in this franchise. It's one of the best, but that hardly means that because we get a fantastic entry, we throw out all the rest.

But just because I'm a Bond fan doesn't mean I have to look back fondly on the Brosnan era. I complained when I was in the Brosnan era, and now I'm out of it and into something better. I think I have reason to be happy about that.

I don't expect anyone to assume my tastes or dislikes. However I find those who dismiss Craig because of his haircolour or denounce Brosnan's tenure because of DAD are rather laughable in retrospect.

It doesn't bother me that somone feels the need dismiss Brosnan's work or admonish Craig. To each their own. But as you put it so elequantly, numbers don't lie, Casino Royale did win. However, Brosnan didn't lose either. He is arguably considered the most popular Bond of all time after having amassed close to, if not over a billion dollars at the Box Office and resurrecting the failing Bond franchise into an absolute juggernaut. He also allowed EON the opportunity to cast Craig and take a chance (that paid off) and now we will hopefully have the opportnity see more of Craig in the future as James Bond.

I personally don't see the reason for complaints or animosity. Casino Royale has opened in theatres, the Ultimate DVD's have proved their worth, it's a great time to be a James Bond fan.

Cheers to us all!

Indeed. It's one of the best times to be a Bond fan. If anything, CASINO ROYALE has garnered the Bond series some serious respect again (95% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn't lie). That's exciting.

And I've had a blast over the past few days cracking out a few Ultimate Edition DVDs. Nothing like a good viewing of FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE.

When he was cast I was skeptical to say the least, but I gave him a chance and I'm damn glad I did. I agree with whoever said all 6 Bonds have been fantastic, especially Lazenby I pulled out my OHMSS special edition yesterday and jesus I can't believe the man gets so much stick. All his stuff with Diana Rigg is immense and as for the scene in the swiss bankers office, just classic Bond. Did anyone else feel that Casino Royale pulled alot from OHMSS?

You can't dismiss Brosnan's work as Bond. He was, I think, the perfect mix. But, Brosnan was never able to have a great script behind him like Craig had.

Say in 1995, Brosnan, in his first outing as James Bond, was able to use this script, director, and make Casino Royale exactly as it is now, we'd be saying the same thing about Brosnan that we say about Craig now.

Brosnan introduced me heavily to Bond but his Bond was cut from the same cloth as the four before him. He wasn't ALLOWED to do something different eventhough he WANTED to.

Craig got that opportunity. For me, I love Brosnan as Bond. Always will. But, his Bond films together, don't match the brillance of Casino Royale.

And since this is a reboot, we can follow Craig's Bond as the start of something new and I love that.

Eventually, one day I'll own all of Brosnan's films as the Bond of that era. But, I know that I'll watch Craig's Bond more as the new Bond of this era.

I loved Craig in CR. I also liked Brosnon take on Bond. I was wondering, if Brosnon did the whole Toby Macguire/Spiderman type workout deal, packed on some chiseled muscle and was given a non-pretty boy type haircut, do you guys think he could have pulled off the Casino Royale type stunts?

i liked brosnan as bond and will never knock him as bond,i thought he was great. But craig has surpassed him for me.As one who was not happy with craigs casting i never thought i would say that.

btw pierce was game for stunts but i could only see him doing the craig stunts in his first appearence. If he had done casino i think he would not have been able to do it.

I don't mean Pierce as an actor being able to do the stunts. I meant would it look believable on screen in the context of the movie.

About Pierce, I dug him but come on... He was a mix between Connery and Moore, he was campy but at the same time held a grounded touch about him, it wans't the material it was who he was, and that showed even in Goldeneye, and every other spy thing he done from Remmington Steele, MAtador, Thomas Crowne Affair, etc... Pierce's Bond was not overly serious, which isn't a bad thing, I quite enjoy his films a lot... Being serious doesn't make osmething better or worse.

As for Craig loved the movie, and love his bond, looking forward to this era of Bond!

I'll admit I was horribly wrong. I loved him in Casino Royale, perfect choice.

I always thought craig would be good.

I like all the Bond films, and like all the Bond's- they've all been products of the time, so looking at the setting each Bond fits. Connery's my favorite from the old films, Brosnan up there too... Craig's high up there in my opinion now also- I'd give the 3 of them a tie for now, but I'm biased (only knew Brosnan as Bond, like the books so like Connery, and obviously like Craig... If I grew up with a different Bond it would be different).

Here's a question for everyone- regarding Craig- if you feel like sharing your opinion:

I expected a dark Bond, and Craig delivered. BUT the film had a lot more "funny" one-liners than I expected from this Bond (akin' to some cheesier Bond films in the past)... Do you think that was for the sake of the studio making the film not too dark/serious, OR do you think it's a character-written part, that he uses his ego/sense of humor as a superficial facade?

-I hope it's the later, and I think it may actually be.. I only say that because we saw him sincere when he had to be with Vesper, we saw one-liners just to piss off Le Chiffre, AND Vesper lectures him a lot about his ego, responding to a one-liner that those are his armor (and then he dropped it and went sincere again). I only bring it up because it could be indicative of an even darker Bond in the future, and could lend to some good writing in terms of the psych part of Bond. Just my opinion... discuss if you'd like.

Maybe it's just me, but all this comparison talk is just yanking your pud. Either you liked the movie and Craigs performance, or you did not.

To me it's pointless to act like Brosnan or Connery could put on his tux and be James Bond in a movie with CR's level of action. The Superhero James Bond had his time, now we have the more soldier like JB who will chase a bad guy on foot, than hop in his invisible mini-plane or jet powered hover board and fly after them without one unkept hair or smudge of dirt.

BBHF.......Beat By Happy Feet. CR and Craig are, even now, on their way out.....:)

I gave him a chance but at not one point in the movie did I see him as Bond .... He showed nothing of the previous Bond's in him.

So the point was to make the charecter unrecognisable from the last 40 years worth of representation. For me to not think of him as Bond. Pretty **** idea. HIs Bond could have been random secret agent in ...generic spy film.

No, its to show how he became the character he became in those last 40 years.

If that was the case he would have at least begun with some of the traits or at least had hints of the traits he has had for 40+ years. This was completly unrecognisable. Made me go away wanting to watch a proper Bond film.

Then go watch one, im just glad you paid for your ticket.

:whatever:

CASINO ROYALE and HAPPY FEET are, for all intents and purposes, tied. HAPPY FEET has pulled in slightly more on Saturday (though CASINO ROYALE beat it on Friday), but HAPPY FEET has more theatres playing and can also have more showings.

Furthermore, next weekend is Thanksgiving weekend. One of *the* movie weekends of the year. If you think CASINO ROYALE isn't going to make a ton of money that weekend, you're out of your mind.
