Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 7

Call me crazy if you want, but I think Ant-Man could turn out to be a better movie than AOU. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed AOU (and I definitely don't think it deserves a lot of the hate it gets), but I think it's possible Ant-Man could be more well received than it. Why? A few reasons:

1) It's not a huge event film. It's a much more smaller, personal, and self-contained story. We haven't seen that in a CBM for a while. Plus, it's pretty much guaranteed to not have a huge city being destroyed climax, which seems like something people are getting tired of.

2) It's got a few things we haven't seen yet in a CBM, such as the father-daughter relationships with Scott and Cassie and Hank and Hope, the whole visual style of being in a shrunken down world, and sure to be creative action sequences that play up the whole shrinking aspect.

3) Not as much set-up for future films. Granted, we know there will be some Civil War references here, but I don't think there will be as much set-up or references to other films in this one. The big amount of set-up was something that people didn't like about AOU.

Now, we don't know how Ant-Man will be received until it comes out, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets more acclaim than AOU.

I agree with everything you just said I'm a sucker for family/comedy movies, :yay: and so far what I seen from the trailers this movie looks awesome. :woot: I may end up buying it when it comes out, I know I won't be buying AOU when it comes out. :csad:

This movie has no hype. Wow.

Love when people who don't post at all in the thread just come in and say no hype and leave instead of trying to discuss Ant Man lol. It has hype just not as much as AoU or any of the more known properties. I got a friend from work who has been reminding me just about every time about the film after we saw AoU, he saw the trailer there for the 1st time. Plenty of people are hype for it.

I think people are cautiously optimistic and looking forward to seeing it. It doesn't have Age of Ultron style hype, but nothing else really does - particularly a new character. I don't recall the excitement level being all that different from Guardians of the Galaxy (where RT scores and Word of Mouth helped drive sales rather than hype).

Yeah, I think it's a good thing this doesn't have AOU level hype. People's expectations would be way too high if that was the case. I think the level of hype Ant-Man has now will work better in its favor. Plus, I'm sure hype will increase as the release date gets closer.

Once we get thru JW there are zero films to look forward to. The GA will have nothing to get hyped about... Until those "from the studio that's brought you all the movies you've loved since 2008" start rolling out everyone will get hyped crazy. Still got a few weeks to let the hype grew for it. Give it time, this movie will be big

Yeah.....Minions might be some competition, but HOLY $#!T, did you check out the BO numbers on JW!?!?!? I NEVER in my wildest dreams saw it breaking $200M. The theater was pretty full for the 10AM Friday matinee. That was almost unheard of.

I think Ant-Man is going to do just fine.

Ant-Man-Poster-9.jpg

Story by Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish
Screenplay by Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish and Adam McKay & Paul Rudd

Looking through all those official one sheet poster, it seems like the best on is still the teaser poster ( the all white poster, with a tiny shrinked ant-man in the center )

What do you all think?

Probably. Either that or the Russian one. The new Avenger ones aren't bad, though.

Can't wait for this movie! I'm getting a GOTG vibe. It'll be awesome and no one saw it coming kinda thing!

I hope this is the movie that really widen's Rudd's appeal. I think right now he is much more a niche actor. Sure, those of a certain age get all nostalgic about CLUELESS and a certain demo that turned out in droves for his Apatow crew films or his other films are quite loyal, I am one of them. But... I think he's still an acquired taste for many. This will put him over the top, especially if HE'S the element people can't stop talking about.

Eh, I don't know. If he's really not A-list, I think he's as close to A-list as a "niche" actor could possibly be.

Like if you were going to make a venn diagram and one of the circles it for A-listers and the other is for niche actors, he'd probably be in the middle part.

I need to stop watching these Tv spots.

I like the armoured ants.

Tumblr social justice crusaders thought the fan made poster of Ant-Man standing on Black Widows breast was real and had a angry meltdown
