I really hope this film launches Rudd into the mainstream. He has been one of my fave actors for a really long time. He has such a good range and is one of those actors its easy to connect with. Hope this movies does the same thing GotG did for Pratt. I would love to see Rudd get more leading roles

I think Paul Rudd is pretty mainstream. I think part of the reason why you don't see him in the leading role more often is because he excels in ensembles. He's certainly an A lister in my eyes.

Totally agreed on Rudd being main stream, but excelling in ensembles. That's a great thing though, as we're not getting an Ant-Man sequel for at least another four years, but we'll get to see Rudd in Civil War and presumably Infinity War, big ensemble films.

All of this talk about his future and none of us have even seen his debut film!

Yeah. When I heard he was cast for the part, I thought "Oh....that could be a very good choice". He's done a pretty wide variety of roles (though mainly in comedic or semi-comedic roles) and think he'll be fine. His career definitely looks like it's on the upswing, but, through the years, he's kept very busy and that's no accident.

I would say not yet... My dad knows mainstream actors he doesn't really know know Rudd, he knows who he is when I tell him the movies he's been in but off the top of my dads head he's doesn't know the name Paul Rudd.... Now PPl my age in their 20s you can't get bigger then Rudd sooo I think it's generational

.. unless you're like brad pitt and johnny depp.. there's always going to be someone who doesn't know who that actor is... no matter how main stream they are

Paul Rudd has a lot of fans and is pretty mainstream, but I don't think he's ever really had a big defining role. I could be wrong though.

Are we talking about Clueless? Because if so I saw that in the theater when it came out haha

That is exactly what I'm talking about, I hope this is an iconic film for him and when people think of him that's the image that pops up. For me he will always be Brian Fantana though

60% of the time, it works everytime haha classic

Agreed.

There are thousands of actors and hundreds of leading men at any one time. Unless your a hardcore film buff your not going to not the name of many of them.

Most causal film watchers (people who see 10 or less movies a year in the theatre) won't know more than a small number of actors names usually.

I know Lego sets aren't the most reliable for movie spoilers but there's an Ant-man one out that would support some people's fears.

It's probably supposed to be the flashback suit, making use of the fact they made all new molds for the helmets

As has been proven multiple times before Lego isn't accurate, that rumour has also been squashed and Douglas has said he isn't suiting up in the film. We will likely see a prologue with a younger Hank Pym as Ant-Man but it won't be Douglas.

I think that's true. He's been in a LOT of movies (Clueless, Forgetting Sarah Marshall [frelling hilarious in that one], I Love You Man [Again, hilarious], etc.). He's been CRAZY busy for about 20 years now; making 2, 3, and even 4 movies a year. THIS IS going to be a defining role for him and I am SO rooting for him to do well. He's an accomplished actor (though he's generally been in comedic or semi-comedic roles) and it's about time he got a big break. I wish Marvel wasn't so tight with the purse strings, but, still, it's gotta be a good payday for him.

Sincerely,
Team Paul :cwink:

By the way, for those of you who are Giant-Man fans and want to see Giant-Man make an appearance in at least one of the next two movies, here's a link to some of the old "Tales to Astonish" comic books from the 1960s. I also posted some links on the CA:CW thread. He's also in my Avengers link. In the very early comics, he was always Ant/Giant-Man (and was Pym).

There's an Avengers and a Tales to Astonish link on the page above.

I don't know what the plan is, but if I were Marvel, I'd wait until a critical moment in CA:CW and have Ant-Man become Giant-Man to turn the tide (yay GM!!). But, please, in spite of what everyone is saying, please let him be on Cap's side.....

I saw it in the theater, too. Does that make us old?

I figure most people that were around in the 90s and early 00s know Rudd pretty well. He was in some big stuff back then. Clueless. Romeo + Juliet. Friends. He was in a lot of movies in the 00s. My parents are oldtimers, but they definitely know who he is. Well my mom probably does. My dad is bad with names. But I'm sure he knows the face.

I means I was hanging out with my daughter and saw a really funny movie I probably would have otherwise missed, so, yeah, it makes me old. :yay:

A big plus was that it also gave me the opportunity to completely embarrass her by intentionally shoveling popcorn into my mouth at an alarming rate. :woot:

I remember Rudd as Paris in Romeo + Juliet and from Friends :atm:

Rudd was also in the Academy Award nominated drama The Cider House Rules. I think Rudd is underrated as a dramatic actor.

Like, he's one of those guys where a lot of moviegoers are like, I know him but i forgot his name. When you see his face, it immediately clicks.

The lack of attention-grabbing promotion for Ant-Man results in another round of awful news piece... the Lego set spoiled the movie! Warning! Hank Pym was Ant-Man! And he was a deranged surprise villain! Abandon All Hope!

You'd think all of these news sites would remember how well depending on LEGO sets for spoilers has gone...
