It's all one big thing now. Where one ends the other begins and vice versa.

I think people's issue with chicks like Azalea is that they can be viewed as the best rapper/r&b singer when a lot of our own ilk aka black folk get overlooked. Some of that is due to some of them not being as talented, some of it is just due to the white chicks being more of a gimmick. Right now the game is about Lana Del Ray, Rita Ora, Charli XCX, and what not. I'm old as **** so I don't even know how i know them. :o

But who are the two biggest singers/female performers out right now?
Beyonce and Rihanna. Beyonce is probably the only singer, of any genre, out right now that can drop an album with no promotion or buzz and have it go platinum within a week.

Other than Lana Del Ray, I'd be surprised if any of the singers you mentioned, including Iggy, are more than just a flash in the pan. (I wouldnt even really mention Rita Ora because her own music isnt that successful)

I just don't like this whole thing of black people playing the victim. Im not saying black dont have it hard or that their arent any white people out to get black people, but I just feel like some people are using it as a cop out. Especially when it comes to rap music. There are what 3 white rappers that are actually popular in the mainstream. Eminem, Macklemore, and now Iggy. When we look at the history of rap do we really think Iggy is going to be remembered? Or even Macklemore? There are dozens of black rappers who have won Grammy's. Banks' point on how whites winning over blacks makes black people feel like s*** is s*** in and of itself

Im not going at you terry, Im just saying.

I can understand the paranoia and fear of white performers stealing a genre of music from us, because that's what happened to Jazz, the Blues, and Rock & Roll. However, we're over 30 years into Rap, and white people still barely have their foot in the door. I can name maybe 10 mainstream white rappers since the 80's (and that's if I count each Beastie Boy individually). I think Rap is secure.

Iggy's rapping voice doesn't really bother me because, as has been pointed out, most rappers from other countries try to imitate a black American "hood" accent. She strikes me as a fly-by-night act who'll fade away after she stops releasing singles featuring a shouty & catchy chorus sung by someone else. I just can't be bothered to feel too strongly about her.

As for the Grammy nominations...
I stopped taking the Grammy's seriously back in the 90's. They basically latch onto a handful of artists who've spent the most time on the charts and give them all of the awards. It's a matter of name recognition and popularity.

Did anyone else see this video on youtube of Iggy Alazea as a pop singer before she got signed by T.I.? Like Britney Spears style.

It's funny, the Grammys do what a lot of people feel the Oscars should do. The Grammys simply go by who is most popular rather than whats good. Oscars has their problem. They really should give Oscars based on genre as opposed to basically only giving em out to dramas. But, at least they tend to focus on quality. (TEND to. Not always) I've always felt the Grammys tend to focus on the most shallow artists. Who sold the most. Never taking into account that s**t floats.

Music is like one of the most subjective things in existence, I think that's why. What constitutes good?

It's also one of the sections of entertainment where even the ugliest and most untalented person can have fans and women flock to them, just look at some rappers.

Some people think rap is the best thing ever, some think it's country, some think it's world music, etc. It's impossible to peg. I do think however that even the most jaded out of touch milquetoast whitebread person has at least one rap song past or present that they jammed to at one point.

For me it's a beautiful melody along with lyrics that resonate.

That covers a very large spectrum of music though depending on who you ask.

Everyone thinks Rita Ora is black so she gets a free pass.

I honestly feel like no one will even remember Macklemore in five years time.

I remember when people liked Bubba Sparxxx.

Holy Auto-tune! :wow:

I mean my point was that Ora hasnt had that much success. XCX and Lana are pretty big artists. Black, white, or whatever Ora has what like 2 medium success songs

Anyway, I can see Macklemore lasting. People really love him for that Same Love song. He's different than Paul Wall, Bubba, or Asher Rother. He raps about "real stuff". I dont think he's a bad rapper I just think he's nothing special. White Walls is great though.
The day he falls off is the day that liberals and Buzzfeed readers stop caring about him

Not surprised. It still isn't an excuse to be a b****.

I don't know about a mental disorder. She just seems like the type of person who doesnt really have a filter and prides her self on speaking her mind. When in reality most people who speak their mind and don't care what people think are a**holes.

She's not a bad musician either. I didn't mind her album. She should focus on putting out music instead of controversy. The only time I hear about her is when she's on Twitter fighting someone. ANd it's annoying that Q tip and Solange are empowering her to basically just stay in controversy.

I was so disappointed when Q-Tip wrote a bulls*** manifesto to Iggy on twitter. It was childish. His high stature in the rap game as well as his age is what makes it worse. As for Solange, she's coming off as ignorant and so is Tyler the Creator. The worst part about the thing is that Azealia Banks is so passionate about her opinion that when T.I. defended Iggy Azalea, Azealia Banks basically called him a phony. I hate the feelings of entitlement.

I have no idea why I even care about this feud. Maybe it's because I am very sensitive about racism. I don't know.

You guys see that video that went viral of Minnesota dad Brad Knudson calling out his daughters racist bullies?

Yeah, it's cool he did what he had to do. When you're a white person and you get involved with someone black, whether it be by relation or dating or whatever, you do have to deal with ******** occasionally, same as us.

Hit comeback is moot to me until he makes Bad Boys III...

But in all seriousness in addition to that Football Concussion drama could be pretty thought prevoking among the masses

I would have thought Bad Boys 3 would have been done years ago. Such huge gaps in years for this franchise.

Yeah.

Martin Lawrence is getting up there in age too. He's nowhere near as animated as he was in 2003. Will Smith can still bring it no doubt, but I'm not sure about Lawrence
