Is it a crime for black folks not acting black enough?

The whole 'black enough' thing is stupid anyway.

Culture changes through time. Many of the things we associate with our culture are recent. Fashion changes with the times. No one was wearing baggy jeans pre-90s.

People might say your not acting black enough if you talk a certan way but a couple generations ago no one was talking the way modern black people talk today.

Every listen to black folks from the 50s, 60s or 70 talk?

They don't sound much like your average modern black teen or twenty something.

Culture isn't stationary but ever evolving

I take it as a compliment when whites embrace black culture but it pisses me off when other whites attack them and call them ******s like it's the worst thing a white person could do.

I don't think black folks mind unless its insincere and comes across as mocking black culture.

If your not black and you like soul food, jerk chicken, reggae, blues music, hip-hop or whatever I don't see a problem with it.

LOL !!!! Man you guys cover everything on this board. I think it's regional. I'm from Alabama, and most of the brothas who have kids with or are in a long term relationships with white girls there, tend to be the white girls who are overweight. The cute white girls are only interested in pissin off their dads, so they usually engage in undercover sexual activities with the bros. My brother lives in Florida with his girlfriend, who is a plump white chick. I asked him why the black girls he dated had to be super fine, but the white girls bummy, and he said the top-notch white babes only date cats with money. Since living in Atlanta, I've seen more fine black women with nerdy looking white guys than brothers with fine white women. Although, the older white cougars, soccer moms, and milfs here are hot as Hell and love black guys.

What are race relations like in other countries compared to America? I get the impression that they're better, but I want specifics from people who live there.

1. How do the men here feel about the way that blacks are portrayed in Civil War/historical films? I'm taking a class on cultural memory and a black female student said that she is sick of those kind of movies, as they just show black people getting beaten up and saved in the end by a white person. Now, as a white guy, I would think that these movies would be a good thing, as it reminds an often forgetful public of the horrors of slavery.
2. That student also brought up similar feelings regarding the lack of a slavery memorial in the US. Do you think it is necessary to have such a monument in this country?

1. I feel it's not a massive deal since a lot of abolitionists were white, but I do think people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas get pushed to the wayside in favor of the white guys.

2. This one I'm not too sure on, since it's still a massive hot button issue with both sides even to this day. You got those that say it's the past, get over it, and those that want to bring it up constantly.

I think now, there's a more conscious effort by film makers to portray blacks more historically accurate. Films in the past have steered more towards stereotypes like they did with films that featured Native American Indians. It's the sign of the times.

Yes. Those that say it should remain in the past are typically ashamed of it. Ignoring it would be like ignoring all the vets that died in WW1 and 2 and every other war that now have there names engraved in various memorials in Washington. There are companies around today, that directly benefited from slavery and the wealth accumulated due to slavery have been past down generation after generation. Slaves built most of our capitals iconic buildings. To forget about them simply because we're uncomfortable talking about the topic is immoral....and, if i may say, cowardly.

I don't see how any of this could positively benefit the situation. I don't think a memorial would be a good thing. On one I hand, I see that you see as a commemoration for the billions of hours of unpaid work that hundred of millions of African Americans had done to help the country prosper. But at the same time, slavery was and is a huge black eye on the country, and you can't help but think a monument commemorating slavery could also bring up thoughts of racial dominance.

Maybe if there was something that represents what African Americans have done for a whole instead of just slavery, that would go over much better than just having a slavery memorial.

With that said, I don't think people forget about it because they're with it, but rather the problem is most people tend to bring up slavery in the worst of situation not to mention many people bring up slavery in the most superficial of situations in the most strawman ways possible. Not to mention that I do admit the argument gets tired as most people bring it up as if they had experienced slavery themselves.
