Holy ****! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I brought it up because someone said something like that with the Flash pilot casting and also saying someone was "barely Black" and it made me laugh due to how wrong it sounded.

The worst crayon idea Crayola ever had.

I think some of this stems from the fact "light" skin black actress tended to get more roles than darker skin black actresses back in the day. Thankfully that's changing, but you still see some of that even now.

I'm glad things are changing, but I'm always a little miffed when a movie or TV show has two darker skin black people with a light skin child. I don't know when or how that happens in real life

Even the Cosby Show is sorta guilty of this. Sondra and Denise were a lot lighter than their mother Clair, or even Clair's parents.

Don't think there are any rules when it comes to black people skin color. My uncle & aunt have 3 sons. The oldest is very lightskinned (like my aunt), the middle is very darkskinned and the last is somewhere in between. Neither parent is very darkskinned and neither are the grandparents, yet middle cousin is who he is.

Slavery is the reason for that variation. Whites so frequently raped Black women during slavery, that a large majority of American Blacks have European ancestry, and thus lighter skin, as a consequence. As for why you can have so many skin tone variations in the same family? That just comes down to the good ol' punnet square and the chance of inheriting a particular trait (in this case, darker skin or lighter skin).

And just to provide some evidence of my claim...

It appears that 70 percent of whites have no African ancestors. Among the 30 percent who do, the black admixture is around 2.3 percent, which would be like having about three black ancestors out of those 128.

In contrast, African-Americans are much more racially mixed than European-Americans. Yet, Shriver's study shows that they are less European that was previously believed.

Earlier, cruder studies, done before direct genetic testing was feasible, suggested that African-Americans were 25 or even 30 percent white. Shriver's project is not complete, but with data from 25 sites already in, he is coming up with 17-18 percent white ancestry among African-Americans. That's the equivalent of 106 of those 128 of your ancestors from seven generations ago having been Africans and 22 Europeans.

Yes, I know. I was responding to the idea that two non-lightskinned black people can't have a lightskinned kid, re: The Cosby Show (and anyway Cosby's "dad" was lightskinned, lol).

Now lets go, just give me the signal I'll be there with a whole list full of new insults I've been dope, suspenseful with a pencil ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol.

what is your stance on people from the dominican republic?

They are a little overly friendly with their massages. :(

It's funny, one of my wife's closets friend is dark (Think Chocolate) her husband is even darker (Dark Chocolate). When their daughter was born everybody made jokes that she cheated w/ the Milk Man 'cause that little girl came out super light w/ Green Eyes and reddish-brown hair. It's weird too because she looks just like her daddy though.

It's rare but I guess it happens in real life.

I guess you have a point, but if you look at TV or movies you'd think all dark skin black folk have light skin children. :woot:

I don't have a stance on them, but I've heard from some Latinos that racism amongst Latinos is very real.

The problem is, casting directors are mostly white, and I think they probably can't see that the minority family they are throwing together don't look a thing like each other.

.

I was watching The Walking Dead last week and Michonne's baby was very light skinned. Its pretty rare to see black couples with babies or toddlers in TV shows or movies so I've never noticed this trend.
