The Official Avengers Thread (Heroic Age Bendis/JRJR) - Part 1

I never really understood why people want teams with literally dozens of members. A small group is so much better, IMHO.

Adding in two more members to a 6 member group isn't asking for much. An 8 member team is very manageable.

Hell, books with large rosters can also be manageable. Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis' Justice League International, Kurt Busiek's Avengers, Marv Wolfman's New Teen Titans/Tales of the Teen Titans/New Titans, Geoff Johns' JSA, Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men all had very large rosters and are considered classics.

With a team like the avengers a large number would open more possibilities. I never understood how the avengers always seemed to have just one major threat at a time that they threw everyone at. I'd like to see a large team split into multiple deployments of teams that were strategized for different threats simultaneously. This way you can have that close team dynamic with different threats which equals more entertainment and as each threat would call for different responses the teams themselves would constantly be changed due to the threat. Kinda the way the military handles things. You understand the threat then you deploy some resources that have the highest chance of success to deal with them while keeping others deployed elsewhere or in reserve just in case.

Idk if this has been posted, but I guess cables back to kill the avengers?

I'm calling it now...

Cable shoots Cap in the face on the last page.

:o

So how short is this Dark Avengers arc then? Ah, i guess i should cherish the thought it's happening in both titles, but i was really just looking forward to New Avengers vs. Dark Avengers clash, i guess they had to rush this to make room for the Ultron arc or something. <_>

No sight of War Machine in any Secret Avengers covers has me. :( Still the roster seems great and i really love this cover:

And some man-loving lol, guess this is why Cable only wanted the white caucasians of the Avengers killed:

God this is going to be awful. Cable's gonna shoot people, which apparently is all it takes to make you into some master strategist. Any avenger team should be able to take him down easily.

Team? Most lone Avengers should be able to take Cable down easily if he's in his standard, limited-psychic-power mode.

I don't even understand what Cable's doing. Can he somehow control the TO virus to make spikes shoot out of his body or something?

^Dude, are you crazy? This doesn't look stupid at all...this looks HORRIBLE. What is marvel thinking with this event? And the worst part is with Jeph Loeb and Mcguinness' name attached, it'll sell like hotcakes.

Yeah but with Cap going down so easily and possibly the other Avengers the same way, I feel like they will use Rulk to come out on top.

Avengers Origin: Luke Cage was good. His backstory is one of the more intresting in the MU. Showcased what I like about Cage that his the everyman hero

I meant to pick that one up. Over the past couple years I've grown to like Cage, even though I've read him as he is in passing during Avengers titles, or others.

Bendis has announced that he will be leaving Avengers, New Avengers, and Avengers Assemble in 2012.

Wow, that is hard to believe. I am so relieved. Don't get me wrong, i am by no means a bendis hater and usually enjoy most of his work but...the guy needed to give Avengers a rest desperately. It was good when he first breathed life into the franchise back in '04 but then it just got...monotonous. He never really did anything with his stories and it just became endless issues of the team fighting Ninjas and the Hood and sitting around talking. Nothing big or epic ever happened. Team books are not his forte, and i am glad to see him finally give this a rest.

Now the question is who would replace him and will the sales on the Avengers books go along with him??

It's about damn time. As for a replacement....Christos Gage. His Avengers Academy book is full of classic members, has an old time Avengers feel and he would totally breath new life into the franchise. Academy may get the axe 6-8 months from now which is probably when Bendis will hang it up. It would make the decision to cancel Academy easier for Marvel and give Gage enough time to wrap stuff up. I would trade Academy for Avengers by Gage, no doubt.

Mark Waid would be my fantasy choice and an overall terrific one. Jeff Parker would be a solid option too. T-Bolts has been rumored for a cancellation/reboot recently, what I said about Academy applies to Parker's T-Bolts.

But Gage....he's the most logical option. And I say cancel New Avengers and the Avengers Assemble. That book is just a ****e capitalizing on the film anyway.

I might actually come back to Avengers if they get someone good.I sure Remender will kill it on Secret Avengers.I wonder who will take over?Hopefully not Fraction.Aaron seems a bit busy with WATX,Wolverine and Incredible Hulk.Brubaker has Cap and Winter Solider and his run on SA wasn't up to his potential.I'd love for Mark Waid to get a crack at it.He's been doing wonders with Daredevil.

Should be Waid. He knows how to do big league team books.

Brubaker's Secret Avengers was a pretty solid fail, so I say a big NO to him. His Cap has been very substandard lately. He should probably just stick with Bucky's solo for a while.

Another point on Bendis leaving the franchise, Alonso might want to watch his back. Bendy has EiC written all over him down the line. If Quesada needs a scapegoat provided DC continues to surge past Marvel, Alonso is it. He better be on his game creatively.
