The Official Batman (1989) Thread - Part 5

I absolutely can take valid and thoughtful criticisms about this movie, or any movie. Just not from previously banned trolls whose main argument about the movie boils down to things like "it sucks, there's no story, no origin, it sucks".

Hold the phone I'm no previously banned troll. You want me to elaborate more on why I think those things? I will if you want.

I don't see what I'm saying is any diff to you lot saying the visuals are great, there's great subtly to the writing and all that stuff. You're not being any more descriptive than me. But you ride my back because I'm not part of your love fest for it.

"Puts Batman 89 into the conversation?" One could argue that there wouldn't even be a conversation if it wasn't for Batman 89.

I edited that out before I saw your post. :cwink:

Dial it back, Phantasm. I don't know what your problem is. Is it so hard to be civil and mature? Or do we have to get a moderator in here to get some civility into this thread.

Hahahaha, wow.

What did I say that was uncivil? You're offended because I don't want to go compile a list of negative opinions about the Avengers that have been expressed in the Marvel boards? Its not a discussion I'm interested in.

No offense but some of you act borderline hostile when anything remotely negative or critical about this movie seeps it's way into this thread. This isn't a fan thread. If you want a safe cocoon of Batman '89 love only then go and make one. I promise I'll stay out of it. If I don't then you have valid grounds to report me.

Because I'm unwilling to debate you on other people's opinions of the Avengers film it means I want a safe cocoon from Batman '89 criticisms? That doesn't make much sense.

'You win this boring discussion by virtue of the fact that I'm lazy and don't give a **** about debating this

Everyone give Joker a hand for his intellectual prowess'

You could have just simply said you're not interested in discussing it. But no you have to insult me. I don't care if you're interested in discussing it or not. It's your hostile attitude that's out of order.

No, it's your hostility over it. If you were unwilling to discuss it, or found it as you claim boring, you wouldn't have even addressed it in the first place.

I'm not being hostile, just candid... I'm not interested in debating it. I only mentioned I had seen these opinions as an aside, not to start a discussion about them.

I wasn't insulting your intellect. I was making fun of the fact that you seemed to regard my unwillingness to provide quotes as you scoring some kind of intellectual point (re: your sarcastic remark "I thought so").

I apologize for the offense I've caused you, and will be more careful in my wording towards you in the future so as to not hurt your feelings again. (And no, I'm not being sarcastic here)

The Joker, you may be unaware of how brittle, defensive, fussy and repetitive your posts on this topic can be. I say that as someone who otherwise thinks you're a good poster and a nice bloke, but it's a bit rich for you to accuse someone else here of aggression towards you.

Apology accepted. Likewise I am sorry if my comment did rub you the wrong way. It wasn't intentional. If someone makes a claim, asking them to back it up is not unreasonable. It's why I took issue with the hostile response because for as long as I've know you we've always gotten along. This sudden hostile attitude was out of character for your usual placid and friendly self.

For what it's worth, no offense was taken. I just didn't want to turn the thread into a flame war.

Unfortunately I could say the same to you, regwec. As for repetitive, that goes double for everyone here. None of you say anything new on this movie. It's the same stuff over and over. But thanks for the compliments. Right back at you.

Okay, 'Fudgie'.

I don't know who that is. Listen Shape if you're going to accuse me of crap then why don't you go and get a Mod to check my account out if you really think I'm a banned troll. Then you can come back with a big chocolate apology cake when they tell you that you're wrong.

Nice way to ignore the rest of what I said in my post because you know it's all right. You don't put any more detail into your love posts but you troll me because my critical ones have the same detail level as yours. Some fans just can't take criticisms on movies they like and make out like the ones doing it are trolls for it.

I don't like chocolate.

Sorry, I was just trying to ignore you as whole, as much as I could, in between writing my "love posts".

I've made plenty of lengthy and detailed posts on this subject. You can go back to the early pages of the thread to find some. You'll probably also find yourself responding to people's posts saying the movie is "weak", "lazy", or "dumb" -- you know, the kinds of posts you've been making in this very thread for years via your previously banned accounts.

Ha who said it was for you.

Well a tip for you on ignoring someone. You don't speak to them at all. So far you aren't doing well with that.

So it's ok for you to make one liner posts because once upon a time you made a detailed post about it that not everyone will have seen. That makes loads of sense.

Now go get my cake.

Simmer down folks, it's just a movie, some are taking things too personally over opinion of a film and there's no need to drag the tired Marvel angle into things as well.

Thank you

What's everyone's favourite moment and scene from this film?

Moment: "I'm Batman", still (for me) the greatest Batman moment in live action ever.
Scene: Axis chemicals Batman vs Jack Napier, it's just brilliant the whole sequence, the way Batman works wile trying to evade the police just as Napier & co are too.

The entire museum scene starting with Joker vandalizing the paintings while dancing to partyman and ending with his "Where does he get those wonderful toys" line.

Bruce's flashback to his parent's death. The atmosphere and the music in that scene was just alley and the guy playing young Jack Napier.

The Axis Chemicals scene, for me, is a seminal example of how to build up a climatic confrontation between hunter and prey. It's probably my favourite "origins" moment for any comicbook character.

I love everything about this film, and it's still features the best interpretation of Batman to date.

Yes. I think the museum scene combined with the ensuing chase would be my favorite sequence. The slow build-up to Batman's entrance was great, and you got to know a little about about The Joker's MO and see just how crazy he is.

The ensuing chase is then our first time seeing the Batmobile, along with Batman being a bad ass.

Only one and that's when Bruce leaves the roses in the alley. Was the only genuine Bruce Wayne moment in the movie.

My favourite scene is the decent into mystery. Nothing but music and visuals. Such a powerful scene.
