Batman '89 The Official Batman (1989) Thread - Part 6

I just read Bob Kane’s proposal for a Batman movie a few years before this one hit. It’s one of the additional features in the Definitive History book I got earlier this year.

I had to laugh my ass off because he spends about five pages going on about how a Batman movie in the 80s should avoid the camp of the 60s tv show... and then proceeds to give Joker the most Cesar Romero-esque scheme possible and put some extremely Adam West-y dialog in Batman’s mouth.

Would love to see it in B&W! Is there an actual version out there of it?

Officially, it never been released as it, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone has tried the experience and made it available by... certains ways.
In any case, I plan to create a personal copy of it for me one of these day. The B&W really reveal just how much effort has been put in the lighting, as it should be when it comes to this character. And simply the idea of re-discovering this beyond cult movie of mine with a new eye is exciting !

It's a good film. Yes, it has its flawed , but truthfully, It tends to be only fanboys who have the biggest issues with it today.

General audiences loved it back in the 80s, and given all the positive response to Keaton coming back, people still have a fondness for it.

The public then, and as now, pretty much accept the film for what it is.

It's a classic.
This is 100% truth.

I will acknowledge the only reason I criticize Batman '89 at all is preference stuff. I don't think it's in our nature to hard line take all adaptions for what they are as films or shows.

We just don't work like that by and large.

If I had to watch this, so do you.

Wow. That guy really gave it his all. They should track him down and put him in the Flashpoint film alongside Keaton. :funny:

My 6" (well, 5.5" - Michael is short) SHFiguarts '89 figure came the other day.

It's pretty perfect considering the size... the cape is amazing, but a hair too thick - while accurately portraying the "leather" vibe. While the Mezco is more detailed, the cape they have looks weird. It's more along the fabric cape I bought (custom on eBay) for my BBegins Bale SHF 6" figure.

+ the little mold detail that his "right ear" isn't straight is hilariously awesome.

I can’t wait for a BReturns figure next.

Ooh, are they new comic adaptations of the film or new stories set in their worlds?

That's awesome. I'm gonna check them out for sure.

Very tempted to post the Uncut Gems “Holy ****, I’m gonna ***” meme that would surely get me banned.

Not entirely surprised by the project, I kind of suspected when Keaton’s return was announced that there would be a comic that bridges the almost 30 year gap. What really surprises me is that they’ve got Hamm writing it.

Here's some concept art character design featuring Batman, Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Gordon, Bullock and Joker goons...
I’m loving how comic accurate Hingle’s Gordon has been made to look.

I wonder if they're gonna be able to do Marlon Wayans Robin or Robin Williams Riddler.

I'm just wondering whether or not Burton will have any involvement as a creative consultant, e.g., providing rough sketches of what he'd imagine his takes on certain characters to look like, etc. That's the primary way I can see this continuation having legitimacy.
