Batman '89 The Official Batman (1989) Thread - Part 6

Mezco was too expensive. Bandai's should be a lot cheaper, and hopefully not using a rubber body suit. Judt give me traditional joints and a great sculpt. I hope this leads to a Joker and Batmobile.

Bandai can ****ing afford Jack Nicholson.
You never know ... maybe a more expensive license and likeness for Keaton.

Plus demand they can charge more than the typical $60. Same way Mezco saw it as an opportunity to raise the fig price up $30 from standard $80 to $110.

No one can afford Jack unless you’re charging $350 for the figure like Hot Toys.

Amazing 89 piece by Lee Bermejo

Wow, is this new? I need this art for my man cave.

He showed a WIP of it 4 years ago. Only posted the finished one the other day. Was gonna be a Mondo poster but never got approved for likeness for some reason. I think it's spot on with the likeness.

Yea but you said the Mezco was too pricey. Unless you're preordering from the asian spots and paying in full up front (states don't make you do) ... you do realize BBTS carries this tomorrow for pre-order where you only have to just preorder and not pay until it's in stock. But it's going to cost around $110 being an exclusive. So in essence, that was the initial cost of Mezco when it was an exclusive ... before they released to other selling sites and charged an extra $40 to bring the total to $150, right?

It looks fantastic. But that face printing technology, while good, this doesn't look near as good as the Mezco One 12. And the Mezco comes with way more extras. Plus the addition of an entire new head sculpt with the bleeding battle damaged finale look from the Cathedral. I'm buying an extra figure just to have that look.

I'll get 2-3 of this SHF. But I'm not blown away like I was with the American made Mezco version. Still looks very good though, and I'm a sucker for Keaton Bat, 89, Returns product. Especially when so strikingly accurate.

Mezco is top of the line 6 inch figures, and they're basically giving you two different versions of the figure with the battle damaged head sculpt.

Both these companies knew they could gouge on pricing because they're selling a now niche version of the character that almost exclusively appeals out of nostalgia to people well over 30 years old.

The toys I wish I had as a kid are common place now with likeness and screen accurate detail. The NECA one was amazing. As are the 1990 TMNT NECA movie figures, which we never even got as 80s / 90s kids cause that film was too Mirage-esque and "violent".

Anyway:

Again they're including the "ninja wheels"? Why does every company that makes an 89 Batman include them? They weren't in the movie at all. I just don't care about those damn things.

It's cool they're giving you both versions of the grapple gun, and batarang. Only thing missing is the wrist guard thing that extends out in the cathedral scene.

You're tweaking though. THIS is still clearly the better figure. With WAY more goodies. 2 EXTRA head sculpts.

They are including the wrist guard. I saw it at the Japanese page for it.
Saw it. Preordered 2x but because it’s exclusive had to do it through a a Japanese site :whatever:

I think the likeness is a tad off. Face is too elongated for Keaton.

Mezco one looks way, way, way, better.

And if you’ve ever owned a One 12, you’d know how good they are. I have a Batfleck and Cavill from BvS and the quality is absurd. They’re basically 6 inch Hot Toys.

Going to be even more honest, this is my favorite iteration of Batman most likely, right there with Bale. But the SHF Dark Knight Trilogy Bale Batman likeness is way better than this one for Keaton.

Hopefully it’s tweaked lightly and looks even better come September.

Totally buying the SH Figurarts... Mezco is too much, and like someone pointed out, it’s a runner/bendable body which seems weird.

What’s the best BB figure, for 6”?

Mafex looks pretty good, just have never bought them before...

All of my original Movie Masters are ok, but they haven’t help up over the last decade with my 50+ Star Wars Black Series figures.

For a Begins suit figure?

Easily Mafex at 6 inches and NECA at 7 inches

The mattel movie master one from 2008 is absolute hot trash.

I got an extra Mafex one, and used the demon Batman pieces from the Mafex Scarecrow ... and it’s legit one of my favorite pieces in the collection. Check it out.

I preordered the Bandai Figuarts ‘89 Batman

That figure is just too cool to pass up and at a more reasonable price than the Mezco figure

Same... put my pre-order in with BBTS.

Also, bought a NIB Mafex Batman Begins figure on eBay along with a custom drape cape (also on eBay), can't wait to receive them.

Since the big anniversaries of this movie coincide with the big anniversaries of the character, I really wish we had gotten some B89 merch last year.

Really want a Nicholson Joker t-shirt.

Not gonna lie, the DBZ one looks pretty badass. It looks like if Cell absorbed Batman.

And both the JoJo's and Gorillaz one look like if DC decided to do a DC Zombies line of comics, which, incidentally, I would totally be down for.

Why was the chemical factory named Axis Chemicals? Is opinion on the Axis countries more split in the film universe, more open sympathizers, or is that name just coincidence?

I always thought it was just a cooler sounding name than Ace Chemicals.

So there has been a disturbing lack of Batman 89 shirts. Keaton’s my favorite Batman so I’ve been on the lookout for something with him on it. All I can find are vintage shirts on eBay or fan designs on Redbubble that didn’t do much for me. So I just decided to make my own Burton Batman shirts. I was disappointed with how Joker came out, I’ll have to make another one at some point. Other than that I’m happy with Batman and Catwoman.
