The official "Batman" comic book thread

Glad to see you Joker giving a chance to Daniel! I knew alot of people here were disappointed with Battle for the Cowl, but this new story is just so... Detective Batman! :D Loved ther last 2 pages aswell. :D And yeah im liking all the minor characters appearing.

I agree, I love the atmosphere and vibe in this story.

I quite enjoyed Battle for the Cowl, too.

I liked Battle for the cowl as well. I mean, most of it was pretty boring so i see why people didnt like it, but i liked Jason's reemergence as a gun yielding Batman.

Loved the last arc. I wasn't sure what to make of Tony Daniels' writing after Battle for the Cowl, but this turned out good. Dick Grayson's truly hitting his stride as Batman, and I loved seeing Damian doing some detective work. The artwork is step up from the previous as well. Really curious to who the new Black Mask is.

Batman #695 preview! :D

Writer/artist Tony Daniel presents the unthinkable, as Batman teams with his arch-foe the Penguin to track down the Black Mask. Wise move? We’ll see. BATMAN #695 hits 1/13.

Looks great. Batman and Penguin forming a collaboration to take down Black Mask, can't wait to see that.

pencil preview for Batman #695 that comes out today/tomorrow for folks!

I can't know how much more i need to shout but READ Batman #692-695 people! Tony Daniel's Life After Death is such a fun detective story! This issue was rather "slow" compared to the other ones. It's culminating to the inevitable identity of Black Mask. We get some nice touches on Riddler's future which will get more exposure on Sirens. We get to see Reaper in action and somethings happening to him! =S I also really liked how Kitrina and Catwoman resemble each other so much, since they might be related.

The latest issue was great. I loved the cliffhanger with Penguin.

I love Daniels artwork, he's the best Batman artist since Jim Aparo, and Marshal Rogers. He has that classic 70's look to it in a way aswell as modern, in my opinion.

It's just a shame it has to be wasted on this lame story line with Bruce being gone. I'm not reading any Bat comics till the one and only Batman, Bruce, is back.

Not to put it down, if ya' like it ya' like it, but, I already read Knightfall/Prodigal, and this whole thing feels like a ******ed version of that in a way. It just bugs me. I'm sick of all the death of, and disappearance stories. Just come up with a good story instead of a cheap gimmick. The only good Death of... story was the Death of Superman saga.

Well you're missing out alot of good stuff then really, but hey if thats your choice then so be it. Dick and Damian will stay Batman and Robin in 2010 even tho Bruce returns that year.

You re missing out big time. There is nothing similar between RIP and Knightfall, other than the fact that Batman gets a sabbatical so that the franchise will not become stale.

Morrison's stories are fantastic, Damian is very interesting and entertaining, there's a lot of symbolism hidden in these stories, and IMHO Dick is just as good a batman.
Actually, i'd rather have Dick and Damian than Bruce. I got tired of Bruce. This is so fresh and Dick is much more enjoyable as Batman.

But in the end Bruce will be back, after having battled his way through every major era of the human history. Imagine Bat-neanderthal, Bat-hoplite, Bat-legionnaire, Bat-pirate, Bat-WWII soldier, etc. This is better than Brave and the Bold!

I hear it earle, Dick and Damien are INFINATELY more interesting than another bruce/timm storry. Batman is supposed to be about a man, and men fail, they're flawed, they sometimes lack direction, they get hurt, they hurt others etc etc.. Batgod was on a one way trip to Superman status: tired, rehashed, overpowred and soon to be relegated to origin story after origin story after origin story. everything (fresh) that could be done with the character had been done up untill morrison took over. but all good things come to an end and all you bruce babies out there pouting and pooping in your diapers about him not being "the only batman i recognize" will get your wish sooner rather than later and he'll be back. and its going to be a real "jumped the shark" moment for everyone else.

Batman did quite a lot of mistakes too. Its that on the one hand you have a veteran batman who's beaten the joker 10.000 times vs a new Batman, with a new Robin, trying to establish himself, find his way and deal with new villains.
The new suit, cave and Robin helped a lot as well.

Well i like what Morrison is starting. Batman is taking larger than life stories and really Bruce has gone to the limit where street criminals just aren't worth the story telling anymore.

I mean sure you can create new villains for Bruce but i do really believe they need to be more than just street level crooks, but if you make Batman into a space vigilante how would that turn out? :p

I'm really loving Dick as Batman. I can't believe I'd ever say this, but I'm actually really disappointed that they're bringing Bruce back so quickly. I feel like we've just scratched the surface of the interesting tales to tell with Dick's Batman.

Anyone know what DC has planned for him once Bruce returns? Is Nightwing getting relaunched?

"dickman" has indeed been a lot of fun. while i definitely want bruce's return, i too wouldnt have minded if they delayed it longer.

Yes, since Bruce is coming back anyway, why not delay it a little bit? Its not like Dickbats isnt selling because in sales Batman and Robin is second only to Blackest Night.

I asked about the 2nd arc by Tony Daniel and how it ties with #700 this is the answer i got:

Hmm. I can't exactly answer that publicly yet. I can say that the arc is at least two issues ;)
Issue 700 is a big deal and I'm sure DC would rather announce what that issue consists of when the time is right. I am looking forward to an arc that is shorter and simpler. I think every series needs a couple issues to calm down and allow for more character development between the big arcs. I will be having fun with this and exploring D.G. even more here.

Morrison did say #700 is a big deal, but not in a way that he had anything to write for it. I wonder what will #700 be about. :p

700 = Dick finally realizes that Bruce's metaphysical is lost somewhere in the universe?

Meh i'd let someone like Morrison write that. I mean that was the main critisim on Judd Winnick's arc. It was basicly Morrison's 3-arc story except less awesome by far.

True in the sense that I want to see the actual story handled by Morrison but issue #700 needs a milestone and the "eureka he's out there" reveal not the execution of the search just the reveal would be a lot for that issue. It will let people know they're ready to set the gears in motion for The Return of Bruce Wayne this spring.
