Not sure who's been dropping the ball with this promotion but Kovalev-Ward II is almost upon us and I barely see or hear anything about it. Pretty sure I haven't seen one commercial. I also understand it's a tough sell with who's involved but damn, they already had a great fight.

I'm excited though, I expect it to continue the string of great matches we've gotten this year. And I also expect Kovalev to have a much harder time...

I think they've been appealing to the hardcore fans. They've been all over ESPN and FS1. I don't think they want to waste any money on trying to recruit fans who probably won't be interested anyway.

It's Andre Ward. The man would have trouble selling to his neighbors in Oakland, never mind the rest of the US.

You guys would be right if there wasn't already a pretty exciting fight between the two.

Looks like this McGregor sham is official. This is really disrespectful and beyond ignorance that some people really believe a MMA guy can do what multiple champion, multi-weight lifelong prizefighters couldn't do. Utter nonsense...

There is always a chance Conor get's lucky. But honestly, I am just curious how long Floyd lets it go. Does he want to punish Conor? Beat him up? 10 ounces gloves should make it interesting.

And who cared outside of the hardcore fans? That is the problem.

My cousin is a pretty high roller in Vegas and thinks he can get us tickets for $1000. I'm gonna try to go.

How are they supposed to start caring if they're not shown what they missed? This is why Mayweather started acting like a clown in the first place, because he wasn't a big enough "name" for some fighters at the time. Speaking of which, nobody should be crying about the "death of boxing" then either. And with this McGregor sideshow, there's already a ton of that...

I don't see your point. Ward made himself unmarketable. Mayweather and Conor on the other hand have done the exact opposite. Look at Canelo and GGG. People care about that like mad.

Just like I said above, Floyd had to start acting like a caricature to market himself, same can be said about McGregor. So because Ward and Kovalev just go about their business, it's ok not to market their fight?

Oscar didn't do that. Manny didn't have to do that. Canelo doesn't need to do that. But if you are going to put people to sleep, you better have some personality. And Ward has none.

They are marketing it. They just aren't spending a ton on it, because it isn't worth that kind of money for them. Why would they waste the money they won't recoup doing that?

Ward shouldn't have taken a huge amount of time off. That was his fault. No one made him do that. Kovalev doesn't care. He isn't like GGG, who seems to want to be a big deal. Kovalev just wants to fight, make a living and on occasion hurt people.

Interesting that you're only citing Ward in this, as if Kovalev has more of a name. Regardless, they already had a good fight, that's what they should have focused on. I mean, why not?

Kovalev isn't a name. But Kovalev doesn't really cry about it either. Ward seems to think he should be a bigger deal then he is, after talking years off after finally making a name for himself. Then look who he signed for.

They are focusing on it. They replayed it on HBO, they have done the 24/7 videos, they had their commercials. They are doing their usual podcasts, which I love. That is all happening. What do you expect? This isn't going to spin money like Canelo vs. anyone. It is just how it is.

Fair enough. But I definitely think they both deserve better.

I wish this fight was a bigger deal. It is two legit top 5 P4P guys going at it, after a very good first fight. This might be a fight over #1, or at least should be. But I also know this just isn't going to draw in that way.

It should be for #1 P4P. I still don't see how GGG is #1 P4P. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

I got Ward winning this weekend.

As far as May/McGregor go, I'm going to stream it or go to the little bar I usually see fights for free to watch it. Not going to pay a cent for that.

I'm saving my money for Canelo/GGG

There are private YT feeds with HD broadcast of all ppv fights. I'm part of that group. I have not paid for ppv in years. :sly:

So the Mayweather/McGregor fight is officially happening then.

The hype & build up for the fight I think is going to be better than the actual contest itself.

Yeah...McGregor, with absolutely no boxing experience will get destroyed. He will land a few punches, but it'll be just like the Pacquio fight where Mayweather dances around, avoids prolonged exchanges, and wins on a decision.

Am I the only one reminded of Rocky vs Thunderlips with this Floyd vs Conor fight? I'm totally watching it, though
