Superman Returns The Official Comic-Con Thread!

For Singer to not only mention the sequel and what he wants to do with it (Go Khan with it seems like a shout out to fans who found SR to tame) but to also mention an alien villain as well as a purposed release date of 2009 tells me it's all but sealed with WB
Well, Singer also mentioned his plans for X3, but that didn't exactly pan out either.

That was FOX's fault. I don't see WB making that similar of a mistake.

Mistake? X-3 was hugely profitable where as Superman Returns is struggling to break 200 million.

And as much as people want to say... they're mostly of the same quality. X3 had too much action... and SR had lack of it.

yeah he got to as far as doing pre-prod designs like the Sentienels then out of the blue he was gone from the X-Men franchise. :down

X3 had the same budget of SR.
We'll see the worldwide final numbers (even from the DVD market) at the end of the year to decide who is the most profitable.

Oh man, that´s so funny... only it isn´t.

I thought he was talking about the star wars kid, Gaylin. Supes v. Star wars kid seems more exciting than SR.

Yeah, he won´t be signed still for a while, he´s probably gonna work on Logan´s Run now, but as he´s finishing, Harris and Dougherty might be working on the sequel script, the way happened with Nolan finishing Prestige while his brother is penning the BB sequel.

Ultimate. Your avatar looks really queer man. They really need to put some prosthetics on that guys face.

WB usually confirm a sequel only after 2-3 mounths from the release date. They did the same thing last year with Batman Begins: no confirmation of a sequel at the Comic Con. And don't forget that BB was released in June.

If the sequel is only for 2009, as Singer says, he may work on Logan´s Run before. And don´t forget he´s a producer on the hit Fox show House.

I think he also created House and directed the pilot. He also starred in one of the episodes. Somebody would have to check to see if he created it, I am too lazy.

So what, Matt? Doesn't help the fact that it's generally regarded as the worst of the trilogy.

I really hope he is not signed for the sequel, the man is not the right director for Superman, and continuing his stupid kid storyline needs to go.:o
Yes, that damn bastard child. What the hell are they going to do about him, how do they continue the story without that little accident?

Seriously, I've never seen a director or movie studio so eager to make a sequel to a film, that's doing so poorly at the box office, from one of the most expensive (production, marketing, back money to Cage) movies ever made. It just boggles my mind, it's like they're completely ignoring the fact that Superman is making average or below average money for a summer blockbuster event movie, with one of the biggest icon characters ever created.

They need to take time to figer out what went wrong (
Hiring Bryan Singer would be my guess
) and try to fix the problem.

Its the story that made SR sink at the BO. If you realized most movies that are greatly successful either critically or BO wise has an entertaining story that everyone wants to see play out and wants to see where this is going.

Amen to that!

The sentinel designs were for X2 . . . not X3 . . . FOX wouldn't provide the funding to include sentinels.

I would not really bother or take the time with Matt. He has had his mind set since day one on this Movie

so the maquets/ models that Singer was showing in a photo a while back was from X2? they looked really cool :(

Great news that Singer wants to direct the sequel...I really want to see where they go next and I want to see Brandon as Superman again and see how he progresses. Come on 2009 :supes:

Yeah, both the Danger Room and sentinels were to be included in X2 . . . the Danger Room set was almost fully completed, but FOX wouldn't provide the funding or time for either . . . as usual.

i cant help the feeling that Fox hated that franchise. its been treating it like a bastard child since day 1.

From what I know, Harris has already started hashing out the sequel script.

None of it's a suprise to me. I have always enjoyed Harris and Dougherty's writing, individually and together. I read the Returns script twice already and think it was well done.

The pieces are following into place as we discussed Hunter. No suprises.

Definitely. FOX can really treat its superheroes like crap sometimes . . . well, a lot of the time for the most part.
