Superman Returns The Official Comic-Con Thread!

Considering that everywhere I go on the net people are ripping into Bryan Singer over Superman Returns, he sure got a good reception at Comic-Con...

The internet is where people go to complain when nobody listens to them in real life.

Plsu its a place to get free porn... Thats always good

Don't judge us by our worst specimens. Some of us actually come here to talk positively about the film and have a positive interest in the future plans.

My observations from comic-con today.

1) The blooper reel was hilarious...he did say it would be on the DVD.

you think that could hit online anytime soon?

2)The illegitimate child question was a good one...and I thought he answered it well...made me happy at least.
yeah i was listening the audio recording Justin uploaded to BTN. except for what... 2 questions (this being one of them).... most were just baaah-ing for Singer (if i may borrow Charl's term ;)).

i understand where Singer was coming from about a child out of wedlock doesnt mean that love isnt genuine, but that isnt the point. the point is Superman having his first child out of wedlock, worse it appears like it was unexpected. that is not Superman, that lady at the con was right, it was a compromise on Superman's character. its not like there arent any people anymore in this world who will wait till their ready and commited before having their first born-- lotsa people are still like this. i dont demean Singer in anyway, but it speaks of his moral standards if he thinks Superman is susceptible to such shortcomings. and its adds insult to injury that Singer tries to justify his decision because "its so hard to create insurmountable obstacles for Superman." good thing i wasnt at the Con, i would've yelled bullsheit!

3) While you could tell from the applause from the 2 tough questions that there were people that were not totally please with the movie (i am one of them) there definitely seemed to be more people there that were big fans of the movie and wanted singer back
it did seem from the audio that most of those who were there were Singer supporters-- and dare i say X-Men fans disgruntled with the last film. maybe that's why theres so many "i thought that was the best Superman movie ever" comments, they dont really get what Superman is about. that's why i want to see a video version of this, try to see how many Superman fans present approved/ disliked the film.

4) I have to admit the whole "wrath of Kahn" thing got me pumped to see a sequel. I felt that his answers and statements gave me enough comfort to see him have another shot.
from how he talked about Star Trek i think that would be a franchise best suited for him. not a lot of people know that Spock is half-human, casual Trek followers wouldnt know that, so there must be a certain kind of "purism" to Singer on Trek that he doesnt have for Superman.

5) I think the cut krytpon scene will make its way into a sequel somehow (based on his comments)
what was the crowd reaction to this? the audio wasnt very clear (it was real echo-y). i'm hugely dissapointed. and that scene cost $10M and all we saw was a 3 second shot in a teaser? and he wouldnt even want to release that on DVD because it will be underwhelming? listen i'm all for having a re-release on IMAX but christ when is that gonna happen? and of course that means there wil be ANOTHER special ed DVD coming out AFTER the special edition DVD that we're supposed to be getting? i thought he said he doesnt like Extended Editions because its "long"?

6) Singer was humble and made fun of himself and of the lack of box office and the big budget
humble pie. he ought to get more of those.

7) it definitely seemed like braniac is the villain of choice for the sequel although for some reason the audience seemed to want Zod back (i swear i wasn't one of the people that cheered for that)
i didnt hear about Zod. did the audience actually cheer that? geezus.

The problem isn't about negative and positive viewpoints, both are valid,it's aobut how those views are presented that causes the problems

i think Donner secretly influenced Singer on returns and probably gave him some ideas on the script,

and now for the sequel, you can pretty much guarentee that singer will ask donner for his opinions on what type of villians to use,

i think the second movie will be great,

i mean singer is a sci-fi buff, loves star trek,

and with the sequel he can now create some amazing fantasy story,

its just shame though that richard donner never got to make the proper superman sequels which should have been,

we could have had donners superman 1,2,3 and 4,

some great sequels but salkinds screwed it,

nevermind though,

at least we got the donner cut of superman 2, great super punch!
for some reason, im more hyped about seing the donner cut than i ever was for returns,

The vocal haters can whine all they want, but what Singer did with SR was very smart. He gave us a great reintroduction to the world of Superman, and now he can move forward with his own, original vision for the sequel. As good as SR was, I think the sequel will be leaps and bounds ahead. A full blown sci-fi epic. BRING IT ON!

Ugh, does anyone realize this is the same thing that happened with X-men? Everyone kept saying the sequal was going to be big and epic, and it was just X1 with a few more fight sequences and SFX. Let's see, Singer had over 200 MILLION DOLLARS for SR, why wasn't it a full blown, sci-fi epic? Keep settling, fool.

Yeah, I´m tired of this whole "Superman can´t have a child out of wedlock" thing, people need to wake up and live in the real world for a minute.

I'm laughing, because that seemed to be the biggest complaint on the net. Yet when Singer addresses the question at the Con, it's met with applause.

The thing for me was not about the mythos or the moral issue it was more aobut worrying it would make the movie silly and cheesey

There you go, SR finishes up the Donnerverse and starts the Singerverse with the next film being more Singer than Donner.

Indeed.

Now THAT sounds like the sort of theme i could see Singer exploring, very interesting

Eradicator: Kal-El, you have breeded with these...*with disgust*...humans. You are a disgrace to your people.

Sorry, just had a moment. :D

And fortunately, it didn't do either.

Kal El: "Now Raddy....i can call you Raddy right ?.....Look at Lois and tell me you wouldn't have laid the kryptonite pipe to those foundations uh ?"

Could you see them really using him ?

Except, to most people, going by box office and in reviews shows that X2 was much better recieved than X1 and is one of the most highly regarded superhero movies.

Agreed,it worked very well to the point i even liked Jason:eek:
Wow. That's incredible to hear. Almost as surprising as hearing Oldguy's thoughts on the film.

Yes. I saw your review. Your thoughts on Jason surprised me a great deal. I mean, I understood your trepidation. I shared a lot of the same feelings. However, I am not one to dwell on doubts or hype. I've found too many bad experiences when walking into films because of misplaced doubt or too much hype. So with Spider-man 2, Begins, X3 and Superman Returns I made a conscious effort to watch it neutral and it's paid off so far.

My biggest worries were that cinematically and tonally it would detract from the film but actually Singer used him well to lighten a fairly serious toned film and also i think him being raised by Richard made a great parallel with Jonathon and Kal El

Substance D, take a few days off to think about that last post.
