I don't think many people would have freaked out if they were kept. No, the freaking out here is going on because they've been removed.

Again you are only surmising that to be the case. Snyder/WB's put that area in heavy shadow to maintain some mystery as to the eventual outcome. If he actually has trunks, then heavily shadowing that region makes sense to achieve those ends. If they are missing, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, as the longer the GA have to get used to a trunkless look, the better it will be for this movie.

I still say the trunks are going to be there, so get those eggs ready for me in case it turns out he's trunkless.

you say potatoe I say potato...trunks, briefs, panties...whatever the hell you wanna call them, to me I prefer it if he has them. He looks off putting without them and has WAY too much blue together that needs to be broken up. But if he doesn't have them in the movie it's not going to ruin it for me as long as the rest of the movie is bathed in badassery

I can somewhat understand the reason for not liking them called panties

I have Scottish ancestory and I get really pissed when people call a kilt a skirt, I walk around a scottish clan festival looking at these huge men hurling big ass logs and would like to see some *****e try and tell them they are wearing a skirt

He was drawn to resemble a Circus stongman, not actually to be a circus strongman, so his costume can actually have different construction.
Still waiting on the link to show that the briefs are just part of the pants and not just briefs worn on the outside of his pants. I'm sure I'll be waiting for some time.

The briefs are gone. It's obvious from the photo. Denial of that fact is pathological at this point.

I can understand someone getting pissed about derogatory terms being used against their own personal heritage and traditions. I can't understand someone getting pissed about derogatory terms being used to reference a comic book character's costume. And it's not as if the derogatory terms is germane to Superman alone. If someone feels that Superman's briefs are panties, then they probably also feel that Batman and Magneto's briefs are panties.

You missed the point entirely. The below post is what I was responding to. It's not about having a preference for briefs or no briefs. It's about being able to like both, the classic version, in its time, and the modern version. You don't seem to get that it's possible to hold both opinions. To some people, if someone likes the modern version it suggests they don't like the old version. That viewpoint is what is narrow minded.

Yeah, just like you missed my point entirely.

I didn't miss your point. I understood it perfectly. And I think it's a ridiculous one. Here it is.

If you are going to adopt nearly every iconic element of the costume, (the cape \S/ we also don't know about as of yet) but rendered in cutting edge materials, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to then go and leave the trunks off. At that point, you might just as well modify it a lot more so it doesn't look off, or like something is missing.
I reject your arbitrary line as to what can be changed about the costume and what cannot be changed. If they want slight modifications, then they can make slight modifications. The argument that "if slight modifications are made, they must also make major modifications" is a terrible one.

I'm related to King Robert the Bruce of Scotland so I get highly offend and pissed off when people call a kilt a skirt as well

Hey, I thought you stated that you were done arguing about this subject about two pages back!

I'm not sure....I've never really researched it. All I know is my grandmother's family came from Scotland and she was a Bruce before she married my grandpa

Calling trunks "panties" would get someone banned?
If I tell them to stop and they continue to do it...then yep.

Talk about overzealous mod behavior. Sounds like it's more based on someone disagreeing with the position than "trolling".

Here's the thing folks...people are using the word "panties" to demean the people who like the trunks. I'm tired of it and will not put up with it anymore....so stop it now.

I think this post pretty much sums up the thought process behind the decision to ban in such a case.

"I didn't like it, told them to stop, and banned them when they didn't."

That would be an egregious abuse of power, in my opinion. But like in most cases, the person abusing the power can likely rationalize the abuse in their own mind.

Here's another good old saying....no one is forcing you to post here. If you don't want to follow the rules of the site....then leave.

Like I said, the person abusing the power can likely rationalize the abuse of power. What is "trolling" and thus a ban-worthy offense becomes highly subjective and boils down to simple sentiment of "I didn't like it". Abuse of power, indeed.

But you're right, if people get banned here for expressing unpopular opinions, I would likely choose not to post here.

Thankfully, that's not been the case.

I decided there were some misconceptions and incorrect statements that needed to be straightened out instead.

Oh, thank you for elucidating. I always seem to forget that you are the ultimate arbiter on this subect. The majority of us are merely giving our opinions based on a particular preference/predilection, whereas your statements are obviously always grounded indisputably in fact.

One other point. Is it not against the rules to call people homophobic, racist, or pricks?

Or is that okay as long as you agree with their opinion on the subject matter being discuss?

Well I'm actually Scottish myself so you can imagine how angry I get.

Will actually be wearing one soon for my sisters wedding.

If I was really the type to abuse my power as you suggest...you would have already been banned. So stop your petty "fight the establishment" ploy and stay on subject.

Actually, no you were not "just giving your opinion". You stated that if someone prefers no briefs then they do not like the way Superman has been depicted historically. In that sense, you're also telling people what their own opinions are.

You've also said that you agreed with a post that called people homophobic, racist pricks if they prefer no briefs.

That's far from "just giving your opinion."
