It's funny how people can find a way to defend the *** ******. Ah well, they're gone and I'll be enjoying the movie that much more. *** *****look dated and silly especially in live action, and I'm glad the people who agree with me are the ones the matter: the movie's artists and Snyder. I'm sure Nolan liked it as well.

Hating the movie costume because it doesn't have *** ******is just crazy. If you take the costume on its own context as a piece of fashion, then *** ****** is bizarre to modern eyes. Only Lady Gaga would rock the look. The cape doesn't look weird because it's used as a cape and acts like a cloak, while red panties aren't normally worn over pants. If Superman existed in the present, do you really think he would choose to wear *** *****? As if he didn't feel weird enough?

I obscured your highly offensive words so that nobody's feelings would be hurt.:whatever:
But yes, you are right.
It seems certain that the red trunks are gone in MOS, so there is no need to discuss the matter further.
Just be respectful of those who need to grieve over the loss of the red trunks.
They are gone from MOS and that's all that matters. Everything else is just talk. :cwink:
There seem to be two kinds of Superman fans; those who see Superman as a symbol of inspiration, who is able to make the impossible possible, and others, who see Superman as just a mere static representation of a past and decaying culture that is rotting more day by day.
Just be respectful and give them time to grieve and smile inwardly at the fact that there is nothing that their arguments here can achieve. :yay:

Then why is he still wearing a freakin belt? And if you look close the belt is black.

Could it be that the costume is a two-piece uniform and that the belt is holding up his pants? That would certainly make sense and also make putting on and taking off the costume much easier.

Wow... You were a nice guy right up to that last sentence. Why did u feel it was necessary to make other people feel bad?

I thought that we do not even know yet if the trunks are there or not?

I wanted the trunks originally but I realized that that taking the trunks off was inevitable. They've be doing it to Batman for years now and it was only a matter of time before they did it to Superman. So to me, just make a good movie so where I don't give a **** what he's wearing like the Nolan Batman films.
Superman is not Batman, people. And he's not just better, he's Super.

i would have to agree

they are calling them panties to just piss people off and that's childish

its all well and fun in the beginning but now its get old and tiresome

i call them trunks briefs or shorts

i think he would beg to differ on the "panties" situation

I don't understand why everyone insists on putting the world realism in inverted commas.

It's unbelievably annoying and seems to be a get-out clause to explain anything that isn't up to the fantastical description in the comics or up to the individual fanboy's imagination.

Ultimately the Captain America suit in the film looks good. The Superman suit looks good. So does the Batman suit and many others as well.

I don't get the point of making the suits look exactly like the comics because the same way that a story may not transfer over as well from the comics, the same way some of the set-pieces wouldn't either.

Get over it. It's life.

Stop acting the dumbass, you know full well what was going on & why people were irritated by the comment.

This is the last I'll post on this seemingly intimate topic, as I'm now just repeating myself. So, I'll be brief. ;)

If it "pisses someone off" that they're called panties, then they need a reality check and to get a grip on life.

There are things in life that get under my skin. People driving slowly in the left hand lane, the budget crisis, etc. But whether someone has a different view about a comic book character's OLD costume (as in past tense, because it's no longer his costume) and uses a pejorative word to describe such costume should NOT be one of them. If you attach personal self worth to whether someone likes or dislikes your favorite comic book characters costume, the problem is with you, not the person that uses the pejorative term.

Realism doesn't or should not apply to an alien from another world who can transcend our gravity and can move planets if he wishes. Realism in there?

No way.

I believe that, when telling a story, everything extraordinary should be grounded in the ordinary (or realism). Otherwise, you lose the "extra". If the characters and the world around Superman feel like a comic book on screen, the fact that he is so super is lost. Have you never stopped and wondered, "What would it be like if superheroes were real?" I think most people have. That's the story that is most interesting, in my opinion. How would my next door neighbor react? What would his parents be like ... in the real world?

You are the embodiment of the word Schadenfreude, and you're imo unbelievably smug. The trunks may be gone, but if they are on the costume it won't be Superman that looks silly, that'll be you.

If it is in fact a two piece i can agree with that. I don't have a problem with the belt aesthetically. Only in terms of it's function.

i agree with you on a lot, and the panties thing doesn't bother me much, worse things could be said about superman and on top of that hes just a comic book character its not like your making fun of my religion or anything

but constantly doing something purposely knowing it bothers people, no matter what it may be is childish bullying

example: if somebody were to make fun of the music i like by saying its "crap" and i ask them to stop calling it that and they continue i would get pissed because me and millions like me enjoy it very much

now when it comes to supermans red trunks i don't care because IMO as long as he has a blue fabric under-suit (not armor) shield and a red cape its superman. for me the red boots and trunks are the cherry on the top

If you think someone has poor taste, then judge them to have poor taste and let them show it continuously. Don't be bothered by it.

Just my 2 cents.

We don't, but if it turns out the MOS costume actually has trunks, that poster (who seems to love to push people's buttons) will be hoisted with his/her own petard.

dude go ahead and express your dislike of the trunks but please do it with discretion

I wouldn't mind if they had the briefs either in the comics or the movie. I just think it looks better without. I'm a fan of Superman either way, though.

i prefer the trunks but in the end to me it doesn't matter

im not about to get up on a soapbox and preach to the world that superman needs to be wearing trunks

i just dont like people complaining about the panties thing and in the end a little discretion on the part of the "sans trunks" side of the argument could solve the problem

Well crafted post.

Well as you two are basically the Frick and Frack of this board, your falling in line with those sentiments is to be expected. It's like the Sun rising in the morning, everyone knows it's going to happen.

I don't understand the vehemency of either group. Trunks or no trunks, both look good.

I love the old costume. It's iconic. I also love the new costume in film and in comic as they're both iconic as well.

Do I prefer the old costume in film to the new costume in film? No. The new one looks better.

The materials and the way it's shot in that single image look way better than anything in Superman Returns and evoke the first feeling of awe I had when watching the original Superman film.

What I want, what I think we need, is a good Superman film. And good Superman stories in comics for that matter. Trunks or not. It kills me when I notice that most of the best Superman stories in the last 15 years have been Elseworlds novels.
