Problem with the first Superman is Lex Luthor being turned into the comic relief, instead of the complex, arrogant and truly threatening character he should be.
The 'Donner-Cut' worship is much more annoying.
I will admit spacey did make a good luthor

In 1978, the complex and threatening Luthor wasn't really in existence yet. He sure was arrogant though!
What's more annoying than that? NOLAN Batman worship!

Wrong. The most complex Luthor was in existence at that time, a much deeper character than the Post-Crisis Kingpin ripoff. Maggin's Luthor, who was more a fallen man consumed and poisoned by hatred than the pure evil gangster that he became. That Luthor is what the Smallville Luthor was based on, and he is by far the most interesting live action Luthor.
At the time that the movie was made, Lex WAS mostly comic relief in the comics. It wasn't until the 80's that the character was revamped in the DC universe.Problem with the first Superman is Lex Luthor being turned into the comic relief, instead of the complex, arrogant and truly threatening character he should be.
I guess that's where opinions vary. I personally loved the Donner cut and thought it was a great improvement over the original theatrical version. At least Nolan's is somewhat justified. That Donner Cut is an embarrassment.

Like I said - different opinions. I thought the Lester stuff was too campy and the comedy lessens the seriousness of the movie. It seemed out of place. It appeared to be done just to make it different from Donner's version and not as an actual movement of plot. It seems to me from your posts that you have more of a personal dislike for Donner for some reason. So I really see no need for us to continue this. You have your opinion, I have mine. Thankfully you don't have to ask my permission to watch the version you like and I don't have to ask your permission to watch mine. Life finds a way.To me it actually made it a better thing that Lester was brought in. It certainly made Donner out to not only be less the 'Superman movie legend' he was for some, but vindictive as well for even approving something like this. It should have been called the Donner Gripe for his getting fired. Lester deserves a lot more credit and appreciation after this debacle of a version and presentation. Put it this way, in no way does it say "They never should have lost Donner", but rather "thank goodness we didn't get this." However he may have felt after all these years, a filmmaker as accomplished as him should have realized how badly this would speak for him. But he was still fuming over old wounds.
But I guess that's another subject.![]()

Wasn't meant to be deep. It was a just a continuation of the we have seperate opinions theme.Cute 'permission' line, too. Deep stuff there. But I agree that this is not the thread for it.
There are some things about it I like. Others I do not. I'll have to wait and see it in action before I fully feel one way or another. So anyway...the costume.

I think the texture is too 'scaly', and might have been better design/color-wise as something other than tights. But if the movie itself is good, it'll probably sit better. Also, even though we're not seeing the actual footage yet, the color tone looks even duller than the SR one. The actual film may be more vibrant overall, but the colors are surprisingly dark. There are some things about it I like. Others I do not. In the pictures we see...it looks 'rough'...or almost like it's a 'cake' like the SR suit that the Jon Kent ghost was holding in the last episode of Smallville. Something about the texture makes it look easy to mark up or wear away. The shape I think is rather nice. Maybe more 'old school' than modern and sharp. But nice....as long as the colors don't run when it rains.Does anyone else have issues with the S on Cavill's costume?
The design is fine, but the texture is off and the shade of red is atrocious (too bright)
I'm having issues with the entire outfit, not just the lack of trunks (but it is a big deal for me still). It looks dirty, dark, nothing like the Superman I've been grown up with. If the story is going to be as dark as the suit, I'm going to be very disappointed...Does anyone else have issues with the S on Cavill's costume?
