The Official DC Stupid Question Thread....

That makes sense. I need to read Gods and Mortals anyway, so I'll buy it for myself and read it while she's on Hiketeia and loan it to her afterwards.

What would you guys suggest after that? I've already loaned her the first volume of Fables, but I have a feeling she'll be more inclined to finish reading it after some of the Wonder Woman stuff, as they both deal with the oddly appealing combination of high fantasy and politics.

Hiketeia's a great, self-contained story. I forgot how much I enjoyed that.

For further Wonder Woman stuff, just stick to Rucka, basically. His run is awesome and definitely brings a lot of political overtones into the nature of the gods and Wonder Woman's mission in Man's World.

Also, if she's so into fantasy and politics, you might (and I know I'm gonna sound like a broken record here) want to suggest the King Thor saga, specifically the Lord of Asgard, Gods on Earth, and Spiral TPBs.

She's not especially into politics (as in, not moreso than anyone else), I was just thinking that if the way they're handled in Wonder Woman strikes her fancy, she'd probably dig Fables. I'm going less by what genres she likes and more by what types of characters she likes and what books would make a good transition from one to the other. Not sure how much she'd dig Thor, but King Thor would probably be a good place to go after Wonder Woman. She does dig fantasy a lot, and she's actually a big fan of Neil Gaiman's lighter stuff like Anansi Boys and Mirrormask. She also likes Deadwood a lot, so if you could think of any grittier series like that she'd enjoy...

Hmm, if she's into Gaiman's stuff and she likes Fables, she might actually be into JMS' current Thor run. That has a lot of tonal similarities to some of Gaiman's work.

That might be a good idea. She did tell me she read another one of Gaiman's books and didn't like it. I'm pretty sure it was either American Gods or Neverwhere (the later I can understand because it's far from his best book), but she never said which.

One of her favorite TV shows, by the way, is Venture Bros., if you have any suggestions from that end of things.

Definitely Hiketeia for a quick and gritty WW story. I'd show her Rucka's stuff (heheheh. heheh) in general, just to see. There's a lot of reeeaally ****ing cool mythology stuff in there with Ares and Athena and Zeus and Medousa, and the politics doesn't overwhelm anything but just enhances it. I think she might enjoy Simone's current run, especially The Circle, but it does require some knowledge of the OYL debacle ****storm so it's not exactly a good intro to the character. But who knows.

OOOOH. You can definitely let her read a little-known story called JLA: League of One. It's a completely incredible Wonder Woman story disguised as a completely incredible JLA story. She fights an ancient dragon. There are dryads, naiads, and gnomes. And it's very newb-friendly. Plus you get to see her beat up Batman some more, which is always fun.

Very nice. As I mentioned, her two favorite characters are The Joker and Wonder Woman, thus proving she has good taste (Venture Bros. and Deadwood are just further evidence). Other than Diana beating the **** out of Bruce (which, I will admit, is always fun), can you think of any stories that feature Diana or The Joker in an important role that might be a good doorway to other good characters?

Also, I was figuring that if she liked Rucka's writing, I'll try to get her into Gotham Central, because anyone who claims to enjoy life should at some point read at least one issue of Gotham Central.

I have a potentially stupid DC question. I haven't really kept up with much since One Year Later. where is Jean-Paul Valley? has he been running around as Azrael?

so I recently found out that there's gonna be an Azrael mini series coming out this year. think there's any chance of him coming back? I liked him.

I feel like Jean-Paul might be showing up, he keeps showing up on Rip Hunter's blackboards

I hope he comes back. He was a great character in my opinion. but his series' run is hard to find in issues, and its not released in trade paperback. poop.

I have a question. If you had a few issues of Enemy ace or swamp thing, would you get rid of them?
