Jay Garrick: John Wesley Shipp.
Barry Allen: Ryan Reynolds.
Wally West: Scott Porter.
Bart Allen: Kyle Galner.

SERIOUSLY?? That's wrong in every way....

The reason people keep mentioning Ryan Reynolds is because he's perfect for WALLY. He's a horrible choice for Barry.

Wally is entirely wrong for the first film. Reynolds would work as either.

I can't see Ryan Reynolds as a stick in the mud forensic scientist

Exactly. Anyone who says he would be good for Barry obviously has no idea who the character is.

I wonder what that idea is based on.

Anyone whos says he would be an awful Barry underestimates Ryan Reynolds. His roles (albeit Deadpool) have gone more toward average Joe type roles and less straightforward goofball roles.

Obviously hes more suited for one over the other but valid for either.

If I had to pick an "average joe" flash, it would still be Wally.

I don't understand what this opinion is based on. A specific comic story? The original series? I don't get it.....

Wallys got a big personality, but Barry has no flamboyant personality traits

He's still got more intelligence then an ordinary person.

Thats different. Hes not the smartest guy in the world. His intelligence in his field is impressive, but his intelligence in general is just higher than normal. Hes not Mr. Terrific or Batman who seem to have endless knowledge. But its not like he has thousands of jokes up his sleeves like Wally or Iceman or someone

That doesn't make him an "average joe".

And I disagree. I would consider his very strong sense of honor, and duty, and civil service (which I think are extensions of his history as a member of the police department) as "flamboyant" traits.

which many to most heroes have

Im not trying to insult Barry. When I said Reynolds is playing more average Joes I didnt mean Barry was an average Joe, just that Reynolds is playing more characters who arnt goofballs and is looking for more range and is showing real talent thus valid for either Barry or Wally

Great tie-in casting....

John Wesley Shipp- Barry Allen (He portrayed Barry in the 1990 tv version of the Flash)
Ryan Reynolds- Wally West

Spider-man isn't in Batman or Mr. Terrific's league in intelligence either but he still should be able to make the ordinary person look like a moron in science.

Same for Barry.

Being a convincing scientist is not something ordinary people can do no matter what their personality is like.

I dont understand what your point is. I agreed that hes smart but not so much that an actor cant play him. Hes not splitting atoms. The entire cast of CSI do the same thing as him and all of them come across as knowing what they are talking about and they all seem like very ordinary people.

Are you suggesting that a only a forensic scientist is can play Barry.

My point stands Ryan Reynolds is a valid option for either one even though he may seem more suited for one than the other based on his mainstream work.

For the record, Ryan Reynolds is NOT my top choice to play Barry Allen. But in his defense, if these guys can play forensic scientists...

...then Reynolds can.

That not every actor can play Barry.

Hes not splitting atoms.

He may as well be.

The entire cast of CSI convincingly make viewers think they're scientists. They don't play idiots on the show. All their characters are very, very smart not average intelligence.

I'm suggesting only actors who convincingly pull off being a forensic scientist should play Barry.

What role has he played where he is a convincing scientist or similar to that?

Just because they can do it doesn't mean Reynolds' can.

I disagree.

So you think an actor cant play him

He may as well be.

Who said anything about idiots. Have you only seen Van Wilder and thats it or something?

Could have fooled me.

What role has he played where he is a convincing scientist or a role similar to that?

Foolproof:

Ryan plays one of 3 friends that have a hobby of creating heists but not following through with them. Basically they scope out targets and create foolproof heist scenarios with lots of attention to detail.

Smokin Aces:

You'll scoff at this but Ryan is the dramatic lead. He is the only character that actually goes through a character arc. He is the audiences grounded vision to this completely ridiculous event. You are supposed to see it as he sees it. He is casted against type

The Nines:

Ryan plays three incredibly different characters. One is a troubled actor, a television show runner, and an acclaimed videogame designer. Despite what their job titles are the characters have very different personalities. The actor is a depressed drug user, the TV show runner is stereotypically gay, and the game designer is a very down to earth family man. It shows a range i think most people dont realize he has. It shows that he may be able to take on different roles than stupid frat boy.

Chaos Theory:

He is a public speaker and writer preaching organization. He sounds like a genius when it comes to his craft. He is definitely the smartest person in the room.

Not every actor, no.

I've seen enough.

Could have fooled me.

I'll have to watch that.

Seen this. He is good at his role in Smokin' Aces. While he does play against type his character is intelligent just not a genius.

All through the film he's always three steps behind everybody.

That shows he has range, not that he can play a scientist.

How is his video-game designer character? How technical does he get into that stuff?

Chaos Theory:

Haven't seen that.

If he can do well in those roles in Chaos Theory and Foolproof I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but he should lose most of smart alec comments as a Flash to make it convincing.

Dramatic experience. Its the first step. Director does the rest.

All through the film he's always three steps behind everybody.

Not a fair assumption. First of all, its one step, he figures out most of the stuff a second too early. And its not fair to say hes a step(s) behind when the characters your comparing all have guns in their faces and are in the thick of the trouble.

That shows he has range, not that he can play a scientist.

Range is important. Range is the key to more chances and oppurtunity. Range is the reason why Heath Ledger got to be the Joker. Range and experience is why Ledger could work with the Nolans to get Joker down pat.

How is his video-game designer character? How technical does he get into that stuff?

He doesnt get very technical. Just a few editing sessions with both the TV producer and video game designer. The point is he can work with information, accurately deliver the information. Everything else is the director and writer.
