The Official Flash Thread - Part 2

Flash has THE coolest, sleekest and one of the most translatable (comic to movie) costumes in comics. Give me the new 52 costume and I'll be all kinds of happy!

I don't understand why people keep wanting things changed for films. Sure somethings make sense, like the X-uniforms to actually make them look like a team. But come on, most comic books have perfect costumes for their characters. Much like Spider-man all Flash's costume needs is some proper detail work done to it to bring it into the real world and we're done.

Because then they'd be "cool" and "real."

Testing some shots for a fan-made trailer I might attempt in the future, featuring Ryan Gosling and surprise visitor for a cameo ;)

Really? I wasn't aware that Cap had large patches of gray and had brown gloves and boots in his comics costume.

Ya got me on that one. Still, ya gotta admit, there's no actual point to having black patches on the Flash costume.

All we have to do is look at the NEW 52. All the characters have received somewhat in-depth makeovers. Superman is wearing armor, Batman is more like his movie counterpart, Cyborg is all bulked-up, Wonder Woman has been modernized and made to look "new age" and Aquaman has well... uh... well, he's back and that's cool, right?

Then there is Flash. His costume has remained relatively unchanged. Why? 'Cause it is absolutely perfect!

It will look better with another actor in the suit in THAT picture. Gosling's face doesn't go well there. It looks wrong.

AWESOME!! I wish Legendery Pictures made The Flash and Green Lantern 2!

I think that Ryan Hurst has a the look, muscle build and acting chops to play Barry Allen AKA the Flash!

What do you guys think?

Currently Gosling is my favorite choice with Pine being second.

Gosling has said in the past that he wouldn't do any cape movies. Pine is doing Star Trek, I can see him playing Barry Allen but he's too handsome. Barry has always been the blue collar guy working on the lab Ryan Hurst seems more of the Barry Allen type.

Barry Allen, the police scientist, has never been characterized as blue collar or unattractive. Also, for a male lead in a movie, the studio doesn't understand the words 'too handsome.' We should hope they are as ugly and talented as Gosling.

I know everyone was crazy for Rachel McAdams to play Iris but has anyone considered Jessica Chastain?

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before but I think she'd be good in the role. After reading Flash #1 of the relaunch and seeing her in The Help I think she could do it.

Just a thought...

He was never a crazy scientist (good or bad guy) like in most comic books. He was always surrounded by cops and cops are blue collar working guys and heroes notheless. Barry worked as a Forensic Lab Technitian, to me that says that he was a blue collar, 9 to 5 type of guy. The type of guy who goes from work to home and repeats the same routine everyday. That how I see Barry Allen. Gosling is a great actor but he's in terms of a good looking guy, I say go for someone who is relatively unknown. Ryan Hurst fits the bill, he's not well known except for "Remember the Titans," "Saving Private Ryan," and "Sons of Anarchy." Give the guy a chance if the film is in development.

Forensic Lab Technicians have four year degrees and desk jobs. They are quintessential white collar people. They don't get their hands 'dirty' per se. Note, white collar jobs are also 9 to 5. The difference is about the type of job it is, and no matter how blue his buddies are, Barry has a desk job.

My biggest question mark regarding this movie is how are they going to translate his superpower to the big screen.
It's a difficult one, to show superhuman speed that could look good and cool.

Barry had a desk job but he got his hands dirty. This is the 21st Century, CSI (tv show) has been around for a long time, Barry Allen gets his hands dirty like those guys. He has to be updated for this generation, he's a blue collar guy...period. Forensic teams work 12 hrs shift or until the scene is taken over by the first responder.

The movie should be easy to make, he runs fast, goes thru walls, the fx should be much easier to do than the ones for GL and MOS. The suit would be the one thing that I would be looking for!

hmm... would Flash have made a better vehicle for Ryan Reynolds? we'll never know.. I just hope that the Flash project didn't get killed because of the modest response to Green Lantern at the box office (hopefully the video/cable returns are big)..

..So is Zoom the natural villain for part 1 because of the same-powers-but-evil angle?

what about part 2.. captain cold and weather wizard? Should Grodd be a villain at all? Monsieur Mallah? does the Gorilla City/sentient ape concept push things too much into fantasy?

CSIs take the scene from the first responders. That's why they're called first responders. Making a professional a blue collar worker is not 'updating,' and if it is, I hope they don't update Batman and James Bond. Also, if CSIs get their hands dirty they're contaminating the crime scene. Just because someone is white collar and professional doesn't mean they're lofty in any way, it just means they have a job that you can't get straight out of high school, like being a CSI.

At least we agree here.

That's the fun part. Basically, it comes down to Matrix Bullet-time and some blurring of him as he moves through the environment. Add in a few PoV shots of him covering large amounts of distance, and the audience can get a feel for "being" the Flash.
