Civil War The Official Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Thread

Personally, where do you guys feel Spider-Man should end up being ranked in the MCU in terms of importance?

Do you guys feel that as we get a whole new generation of heroes (Black Panther, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, The Twins, Vision, etc) appearing that the MCU Spider-Man should be placed somewhere on the top in that group or that he should just be treated as any other regular costumed hero?

If you're talking about in the MCU itself, I'd say his level of importance depends on his involvement outside of his films.

Raimi and Webb's films made it so easy for him to be a phenomenon and in the spotlight... That wouldn't be the case here. They should return to the public despising him (with the help of JJ of course). Going back there could really show his level of significance (or none) among others, those like The Avengers. Being established in this film and dealing with that struggle could be a key to his presence and the act in general. I'm assuming that's the intention of his role in the film. Taking a look at everyone else.

I think, in universe, his importance should only be on the level of Hawkeye or Black Widow in the crossover movies. He's too young to have any real say. He'll have some scene stealing moments because he's Spider-Man and his personality will stand out, but he won't be important to the overall plot as an individual player.

I think there should be some emphasis on how the decisions we (Iron Man, Cap, et.c..) make effect the younger generation (Spidey).

I wonder how strong he will be compared to the other avengers and compared to the previous spideys.

I imagine his level of importance, MCU Wise, won't be high, given he's the new guy, and if there's any truth to his age, he won't be deemed seasoned enough to contribute any thought of a matter, of importance. Reason why I hope his debut is more of a young adult.

Last I heard, Marvel was making Spiderman pretty young. That way people don't have to ask questions like where was Spidey when the Chitari invaded? The answer? He didn't have his powers then.

I figure the Avengers would be a little annoyed of his sense of humor. The Avengers don't take him serious at first, but he surprises them with just how much of a genius he is and impresses Stark. Then they seem in action, displaying an incredible amount of bravery, which even impresses Cap. Then, he finally reveals his face to the Avengers, and blows them away as they realize he's just a kid.

That's why I'd prefer a younger Peter Parker. All the things he's capable of look that much more awesome when they find out he's just a kid.

Whether they make him a teenager going to highschool or in college in his early 20s, Peter has never been a big player among the Avengers. He just happens to be Marv's favorite though.

I think they will o with a college age spidey to avoi being tied up in child labor laws

I think they'll just cast someone who is 18 to avoid that issue (although, with movies, I don't think it's an issue anyway). If your point is a vigilante costumed superhero (who is at least 16) has to limit his hours of operation to comply with child labor laws, I think that's a bit of a stretch and Marvel won't care.

Stronger than Captain America but weaker than Iron Man. TASM2 had Spidey effortlessly catch a car.

I'm hoping to avoid the Kickass 2 situation where you have a 18-20 playing a 16 year old then have a hairy over sized 20-22 trying to pretend he's 18 even though everyone can see that he's to old to look like a high school student. Sony/Marvel need to go all Harry Potter on the Spiderman movies. The should cast some actual young actors (14-16) and have the grow up on film for 6 or more movies.

I'm very curious to see what Spidey's role will be since it will very different from the comics. Spider-Man in the actual comic line had a rich long history with both Cap & Iron Man, as well as being an Avenger for a period of time. So at best the movie version will probably be a limited role that only serves as an introduction into the Marvel Universe.

I think that, for Spidey, they should use the DOFP Quicksilver approach: little introduction,a kick-ass action scene, out of the picture, see you next year!

That sounds cool do you have any ideas for a kick-ass action scene? lol.

He should steal some scenes like Hulk does in Avengers so people would go crazy to see his stand alone movie.

In MCU, I'd love him to have not super charismatic leadership qualities like Cap & Iron Man but more of a underdog/people's champ attitude, maybe being little outsider compared to rest of avengers.

Build him up through news reports first. Have him pointed out as an example of an unregistered Super. Then Tony goes an a spree arresting those Supers and we get a cool fight between Tony and Spidey.

I hope Spideys intro is the kind that makes everyone just say: OK THAT RULED. :)

That's definitely what they're going to go for. I'm just hoping it's an after-credit scene. Nothing builds hype like those scenes, especially the shawarma one! Brilliant.

Yeah, that's my thought. I think that would fit the logic of the story much better than the "caught in between" story of the Marvel comic event.

Spider-man should be extremely popular with the street level people in New York City and Manhattan island since unlike the Ironman, Cap, and the rest of the Avengers he interacts with everyday people constantly during the day time. He's a local hero.

I've been wondering how big his cameo will be. Will we actually see him in costume, in action? Or will it be more subtle? Like someone at he Daily Bugle talking about him, then holding up a newspaper with Spider-Man on the cover.

Here's what I'd love to see on the MCU: Captain Marvel, Thor, and Black Panther bullying Spiderman, pushing him around in a circle, and smacking him around a bit to get back at Peter for delaying their movies.

Jeff Sneider lost it on Twitter that outlets reported his Podcast thing on Spider-Man being black or ethnic.
