forget alot of it maybe you guys have seen it.

I don't really have anything against GT. I liked it but not as much as DBZ.

I had that magazine as well. I remember some of them, like Brandon Lee would've been Gohan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as 17 [He's Cobra in the new GI Joe movie], Cameron Diaz as 18, Jet Li as Vegeta, and Goldberg as Nappa.

And speaking of Gohan, he'd have to be half-white and half-oriental looking in the future movies now, wouldn't he? I might as well audition then, of course then I wouldn't be able to show up until the Buu saga :hoboj:

Well I am definitely not tryiing to be an ass on the site, so im glad everyone has a good attitude about what i said. I would like to state however that the characters do look japanese because anime has always had a very distinct way of portraying caucasians and african americans. You can distinctly tell a white person from the main characters of dragonball. Just look at one scene of huge crowds. Of course they do have people that look like dogs LMAO! Anyway, I saw that they added more asian's to the cast and i must say that I'm really happy about that. Overall the race thing doesn't mean anything to me, I just cant see chatwin as Goku. Anyone who plays piccolo is going to be in paint but i would have honestly picked someone else to be him. Someone with fluid martial arts as well as film background.

Either way, I would say that America is in a sad state as far as film goes. Not to say that nothing good or beautiful has come out in the last 10 years but they are few and far between. They have just about run out of tv shows to remake, They have taken Many japanese and Korean films, which is funny because they only take the ones that ive seen and ruin them so I take a stab in the heart. America is selling cheap knockoffs of true art as a quick fix to their inability to Create new and interesting ideas that would truly push the envelope of cinema into a new realm. Anyway, I hope that im wrong about everything and DBZ rocks extremely hard. I just dont feel that it will be at this point.

By the way, Michelle Yeoh would be the best Chi Chi, Zhang Ziyi would be the best feisty bulma, Wesley Snipes painted green would be a more rockin Piccolo (I know some of you are thinking that im on crack, but if you listen to piccolos american and japanese voice and then look at the blade movies, the voice is dead on, AND Wesley Snipes can actually fight and is always in prime physical condition), and Who they picked for master roshi is Dead on!

Zhang Ziyi is asian. Which is extremely ridiculous considering Bulma's father Is GERMAN! :woot:

Brandon Lee as Adult Gohan actually would've been a good casting choice, it's too bad he's not with us anymore. All of the other choices would be bad for any DBZ movie.

Sorry to jump into the middle of the hair discussion but i just wanted to add my two cent in on Mr Chatwin as Goku. I don't Like it! I have nothing against the actor and i think that he is one great role away from becoming as good an actor as Joseph Gordon Levitt. However, The entire casting for this movie is a load of crap that looks like it was concocted by someone to fail for a tax write off! (Like Ewe Boll Movies!!!!).

From talking with my friends, that dont share the same sentiments as I do, I gathered that the high execs of the movie industry must be stupid! My friend explained to me that having a bunch of asian people in a movie may spook execs and they might not think they will get there money by the butt-loads. My thoughts are that the way America is sucking up every piece of asian culture that could be out there, Why would they not just cast this movie with Asian actors. They have done so for two of the characters but why not the whole thing? Thats almost as dumb as Akira, now being made, with leonardo Dicaprio as Kineda! This is what i was worried about. OH and the fact that Akira is taking place in Neo-New York???? These are dark days my friends.

The simple point is this. (No I'm not a racist) Changing the Ethnicities of characters takes away the cultural feel that made Dragonball loveable. Whether or not you believe Goku was asian or white. He was raised in a japanese environment, taught japanese culture, married a japanese wife, and had a half japanese kid, who ate japanese meals (At a rapid pace). I cant for the life of me understand why people are so bent on destroying art these days, and god only knows why we have all lost the ability to sustain mythos for that said art. Dark Days Ahead!~

I dont post very often but I just had to state how much I agree with you. I mean if you cant translate something in the proper context then dont bother. To me Goku is asian and I am sure to many others his asian as well. Imagine an asian superman oh my gawddddddddd their would be all sort of hell raised by that.

KuroTsurugi,
unfortunately this world is all kinds of ****ed up. We know this. The unfortunate truth is that this movie wouldn't do as well as the studios would like if there were all asian actors. I totally agree with you that the culture of the show proves to be japanese. Dont get me wrong, I would see this movie no matter who was in it. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for this movie to be made. sorry that you are bummed out by this film!

I don't know, I always thought of the Dragonball/Z/Gt series as not being restrained by any sort of ethnicity. In essence numerous ethnicities ar represented by each of the characters.

Oh, almost forgot to post this, but Kazuki Kitamura (He played the Xillian overlord, the young guy, in Godzilla Final Wars.) would make a great Vegeta if he improved his English alot. I mean the ending battle between him and the hero in Final Wars is very DBZ like.

You'd think that, but i could totally see the studio casting a white guy... :whatever:

I don't know about you guys but my only casting choice for Vegeta as for now is Ray Park.

also doesn't this (seeing as goku is portrayed by a white guy) mean that all the saiyan characters will be also cast as caucasian?

I hope they get a good actor to portray Gohan & he isn't too much of a whiner like in the anime.

Isn't that like saying all Earthlings are Caucasian? :hehe:

I always felt like Russell Wong would be great for Vegeta, and Jason Scott Lee (Dragon the Bruce Lee Story) as Goku.

Lee would have been a good choice a few years ago I think.
