I always always picture Anime characters to be white unless they LOOK asian. For example (and i know this is terrible) but Brock from Pokemon ... He was, to me, clearly asian. But I didn't think that the other characters were meant to be asian....

Its the same with DBZ. It might also be because i'm white? But I dont know. I feel like the whole 'blonde hair blue eyes' (or blue hair blue eyes, whatever, etc) kind of screams caucasian to me...

And yes, Goku was black haired and black/brown eyed but I still personally think that he was meant to be caucasian.... but thats my opinion.

that's not definitive. as i said, every Dragonball movie thread i've been to on other sites have had comments like "why is Goku being played by a white guy? isn't he Asian?" so obviously there many people out there (not just myself) that think Goku was supposed to be Asian......and for crying outloud, how hard is it to spell "Asian" correctly?

anyway, i know Goku has big eyes (which typically aren't an Asian feature) but so does Chi Chi, yet her actress has rather small eyes. personally, i've always imagined Goku to look similar (not exactly) like this guy...

...like i said, i always thought of Goku as the Asian version of Superman and he's practically the Asian version of Brandon Routh as far as looks go.

Chatwin does look like a late teenage, early adult Goku. He's got the figure, Goku's wide eyes and I know they have changed the hair for a realism aspect I guess but wouldn't he look different when he goes Super Sayian in future sequels?

And I guess when they include Vegeta, would they change his hair aswell? If they do I think they might change it to the Dragonball GT style hair.

Oh and just a question. Why did they change Vegeta's hair in Dragonball GT and made him taller?

I don't know about this guy to be honest. Wasn't he in War of the Worlds? He sort of resembles Goku with the exception of the hair obviously. He needs to bulk up some.

if you take what vegeta says during the cell saga about saiyan's hair word for word then it would be a huge error on toei's part, but if you are more liberal with his explanation then it would be a weird decision on toei's part to make his hair shorter.

and his height...um maybe due to a change in art styles, remember GT was more or less Toei making it up as they go along with some input from toriyama.

in fact he's kinda like speed racer... played by an actor with a good resemblance to the toon I must say...

oh....i guess that explains how if you were to shave the heads of Goku, Vegeta, Yamcha, and Trunks then give them all the same color eyebrows and eyes then you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. btw, the last time i checked...black hair and black eyes are Asian features.

Really? Because I don't think i've ever met someone with black eyes. And I've met my fare share of very white people with black hair and eyes of all colors.

then you need to get out more often. if you mean you've only seen people with colored eyes....dark brown eyes are often referred to as black eyes.

And I've met my fare share of very white people with black hair and eyes of all colors.

most caucasians have blonde to brown hair. white people with black hair are most likely Mediterranean or mixed. regardless, dark eyes and black hair is still an Asian feature even if other races share those features.

i doubt that exists though....

my position on the matter is that it's ultimately up to the individual. i, personally, prefer to think of him as Asian given his hair & eye color, name, and the heavily Asian influenced world he lives in, not to mention the Chinese Monkey King he was based on. i don't mind if people think of him as white because that's their opinion....but what i do mind is when they give reasons why they think he's white that make no sense (like Goku has Caucasian features while the Asian characters have Asian features).

This is how I relate this. It doesn't, in any way matter, what race you think Goku resembles. He's an alien, not born of earth. He's living in a universe where there are animal-people, and dinosaurs.

Some of the architecture is based off of Chinese buildings, but you can not argue that in a prehistoric Pangaea, where there are flying cars and buildings in capsules, animal people, and aliens, that the cast (especially one who's supposed to be an alien) is of asian decent.

if that is your argument then it should apply to ALL of Earth's races (not just Asians) or else it's a double standard.
