The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

well i was thinking about to se a final destination marathon
but i want to know
are the movies really good..?
never saw 1 of them

i really liked the first one. i went out of the theaters and was scared to even cross the street :p, seriously lol, i enjoyed it a lot
the others are not really good in my opinion, but the first one was very good

logic is letting people have their opinion without telling them that they should wait for future images or news. whenever you say that people shouldn't form negative opinions based on the same images that people with positive views based their opinions on without telling the optimists to wait also, it's a double standard.......no matter how you try to swing it. sorry.

Exactly.

Godman should be able to have his opinion, even if it's extreme. he's not spamming or trolling, he's giving his reasons why he thinks it will suck. some people (including myself) don't need to see the end product to get an idea of how the film will be. this is why it erks me whenever someone tries to tell someone else to wait for more images. those images won't change our minds about the images we are CURRENTLY seeing. we are all basing our opinions on the same news and images....so if people with positive opinions are allowed to say things like "this movie is gonna rock" or "Chatwin will be awesome as Goku!" then people should also be allowed to say "this movie is gonna suck" and "Chatwin will be crappy as Goku."

as long as they're giving their opinion, and not obviously trying to tick people off then it should be allowed.

This is what I was saying earlier. Godman, like everyone else, expressed his opinion with reasons and showed no signs of trolling.

I will say The first Final destination was alot better then the frighteners, even got a few good reviews. The one was a very mediocre film, maybe worse. Final destination 3 doesn't count because what else can you do with that? He definitely has potential to make dragonball a solid film, which is all i want.
To say Final Destination outdoes The Frighteners because of “a few good reviews” doesn’t make much sense since The Frighteners, though it received harsh reviews from a few key columnists like Ebert, generally faired well with the critical audience.

Let me make it clear I don’t consider Jackson a “great” director. He is better than most, but amongst today’s directors, I wouldn’t consider him in the same league as, say, Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola, or what have you (Godard is still alive and working too come to think of it). Had Lord of the Rings not commanded such a large following prior to the releases of the film adaptations, I don’t think Jackson’s trilogy would be admired as much as it is. I mean, Lord of the Rings is a pretty dumb story: It’s about people killing hordes of disfigured people, walking someplace else, and then killing all the disfigured people there. Rinse and repeat…

It’s not really Jackson’s fault Lord of the Rings is so one-dimensional; he was only following the roadmap laid out by Tolkien in his books. Much of Dragonball can be accused of being one-dimensional as well; this is mostly attributable to the series being allowed to go on for too long, but then again, Dragonball never strove for the pretentious grandeur of Lord of the Rings, so I don’t think it’s reasonable to bring the same standards to bear on both.

I never said Final destination was better because of a couple reviews, I personally liked it better, the story was decent, good action sequences, good enjoyable film. secondly i never tried to compare Jackson to Wong. Just pointed out that i enjoyed FD over The frighteners since the topic was being discussed.

I like FD1 and the One..I think Wong will handle this movie well.

He is a mediocre director and Dragon Ball is too big for him. He has yet to show what great action is. He is a typical cliche guy so....

I think this will be the movie that makes Chatwin a star and Wong a big name director

I'm watching the commentary for "The One." Apparently there was a ton of stuff cut because of budget and they wanted to keep it PG-13. Interesting.

You just described Michael Bay, and i agree, wong is also a mediocre director. This will be his great chance to show what he can do with a nice budget. Like so often times, michael bay has. Make 4 god awful films, but finally shows good action sequences with transformers regardless of how terrible the script was.

The Rock had very exciting and GREAT action sets. He's no John Woo, but Bay is GREAT at action. The movies have been alright here and there but Bay is in another league compared to this guy...lol. Armageddon is eons ahead of final destination and the one combined. Only HORRIBLE movie Bay has done is Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys 2 wasn't all that great. His movies aren't "The Matrix" or "Gone with the Wind" but dude they damn sure ain't "the one" or final destination". Bay is real good with Big Budget, and that's why it was plausable to here him taking on trandformers. He's good with Machines and BIG sets. The One guy has NOTHING to go on but CRAP!!!!

After watching HOURS of special features on "The One" and "Final Destination 3" DVDs, I can say Wong and his team know how to work with special effects. I suggest watching that documentary, shows Wong in action and he's a guy that knows what he wants.

But what he wants apparently aint that good..."The One"???!!!! Stathom and Li at their worst

Actually Statham said in the documentary he wanted to be in it so bad he had to convince them....and he wanted to learn kung fu lol.

"The One" wasn't *that* bad, but I'll agree the script was lacking.

Bay has had multiple 150 million$ budgets, all but 1 or 2 have been 100+, and done nothing above average with them, you get that kind of money, you aim for 8 or 9. not 6's and 7's. Wong has yet to have this kind of budget, if anything it would equal the quality of bays films. Bay is a terrible writer, who knows how to set up good action. I have no doubt wong will at least match it with this movie.

I am a Hong Kong Cinema freak with movies like Crouching Tiger, Hero, Flash Point, Bruce Lee Collection and Legend of Drunken Master...Those are Martial Arts Master movies. How can you have Jet Li and make a movie like that...sorry gives me no confidence in DRAGON BALL with JUSTIN CHATWIN...lol

I have faith in Wong, I enjoyed Kung Fu Hustle immensely. As for Bay, I loved Transformers.

I'm hoping for Dragonball to be in a similiar vein as Transformers, a fun action film a few laughs, with some tense involving sequences for the audience, with Kung Fu Aliens instead of Robot Aliens.

What I enjoyed about Transformers was its ability to be completely out of this world and fantastical without alienating the audience. I went in with some knowlegde of the Transformers and their world and thoroughly enjoyed it, my girlfriend went in with no knowledge of it and loved it. Dragonball needs to be likewise, accessible to wide audience.

Wong was nothing to do with Kung Fu Hustle...what was that to do with anything?

i think thats exactly what they are going for. they are clearly not focusing on pleasing the fans, so i can only assume that they are making most of these changes because they think it will be more appealing to a wider audience this way

I've watched "The One" about 5 times (1 time with commentary). It's rather boring after 1 viewing but it's not that bad.

boring and horrible fx to the most part. Just a bland ass movie.

You know Lee is the director of Crouching tiger, then he made the Hulk, suddenly everybody until now dislike that version, then he made brokeback mountain and he is good director again.

Then you have George Lucas, nobody would dare to talk bad about him after the first Starwars trilogy and the first Indiana Jones trilogy, then he create Jar Jar, and now many persons want to kill him for make the new trilogy.

Then you have Singer, the first 2 Xmen movies were the best comic movies until Batman Beggins and now Ironman, so he went to do Superman Returns, and now fans of Superman are doing a campain to do a reboot, and singer is hated by then.

This DB movie is the chance of Wong, hope he knows this and hope he met expectations

James Wong I think has grown *a lot* since "The One." Final Destination 3 was definitely his best movie (and his latest), and with only a 26 million budget or whatever (which was less than the first movies), he did a damn fine job imo.

I was really entertained by the movie. James Wong himself said he wouldn't even classify the movie as horror but rather "a black comedy."

I absolutely loved the little things he added. Like, at the end of the movie the song "Love Train" is played during the credits right after a gory and gruesome vision of death on a train. That's messed up but in a good way.

Also in the first final destination there's a ton of cameos by famous horror directors who have small parts. He definitely puts detail into the little things.
