To The Joker: Awesome posts.

After seeing them, I decided to watch the Doc Ock hospital scene again. Still one of my all-time favorite moments in any comic book movie. :)

Thank you :yay:

Yeah I concur. Definitely the darkest and most violent scene of the trilogy, IMO. Raimi really returning to his horror roots there. Even Tobey says on the movie commentary for SM-2 that particular scene is pure Sam Raimi.

Sandman on the run from the police before accidently stumbling into an experiment that gives him powers.

Sandman transforming into a giant for a big battle.

Harry choosing to help Peter before he dies.

Harry having amnesia.

Venom going for Mary Jane as his first attack on Peter.

The wrestling sequence in SM1 and the ensuing robbery and burgler running for the elevator.

I'd look up the images to attach but I am on a smart phone. I'll leave it to the professionals :P

I'll agree with alot of that video, except for his "Venom isn't interesting" rants. Venom is basically what Spidey could become if he ever lost control,if he didn't have the love and understanding of his aunt and uncle. Yes,he is an evil version of Spider-man. I love the origins of the symbiote and Venom. Very original, dark and awesome stuff, especially when done right...in live action. But let's go past the cool look of the character. What makes Venom interesting is the man behind the symbiote,Eddie Brock. He is an extremely flawed and damaged human being(I'm mainly talking about the comic book/animated versions). But I see a different side of the character and who Brock is. I guess that in the 90's he was just used to sell comics, but since then I think he's really become fleshed out(mainly in the Spectacular Spider-man toon)And I will say that Raimi's Brock is also a great character, although not as deeply explored as he should've been.
I absolutely love and adore Venom, sometimes more than Spidey. So,it's always difficult for me to understand why some don't like him. Oh well. *shrugs*

Yeah, but IMO Venom isn't interesting. I mean...he has no solid motivation, hasn't done anything worthwhile since his debut, and even when they tried to make him a anti-hero, it was boring. Overall Brock/Venom is a weak character. Spidey's weakest? No. But visually, yeah Venom's fantastic.

You're most likely right, but I've always seen great potential in the character. Obviously,Marvel just viewed him as a cash cow though. The only person who I think did real justice to him was McFarlene.

There's potential, but it was never fulfilled is the problem. I mean, we've had like, 4 people hold the title of Venom at this point, haven't we? Then there's that whole separation anxiety arc...with like 9 symbiotes or however many that was lol. I like him more than Carnage though, if it makes you feel better. :o

What he said about the dancing scene is exactly what I thought for the past seven years. it didn't bother me then, it doesn't bother me now and his reason is exactly mine.

I also never had a problem with Venom only getting the third act. I loved him when I was younger, but never thought he could carry an entire movie. I always loved the symbiote on Peter aspect the most in that storyline every time I see it.

Exactly what I've always said too- Peter is the ultimate dork...so when something that amplifies the characteristics of its host, what happens when it bonds with Peter? We get a even BIGGER dork who thinks he looks cool. I've tried to find out where else Venom could've fit into the film, and it just doesn't go anywhere. At most we'd have him stalking Peter or whatever, which is uninteresting to me. The fact that he got thrown into the 3rd act is great, because at the finale, Peter is literally confronting his demon that he created, which I love.

I never liked how they passed around the symbiote myself. To me Eddie Brock IS Venom. I'll also agree with you when I say there's too many symbiotes. Marvel turned the symbiote into an intergalatic ****e. I'll be happy with just Venom and Carnage.
Oh,I've never liked Carnage myself. So,we can agree on that? :cwink:

That's how I feel- I'm no longer fond of Venom, but Brock is the only true Venom. Gargan, Flash, and Angelo just wore the symbiote. Also, yes...yes we can. :D

:applaud
Thank you, Venom won't hold a full movie or make it interesting

The symbiote is a lot more interesting than Venom, It would have been cool if SM3 was solely focused on the Symbiote and then introduced Venom in another movie. I liked Raimi's interpretation of the character and I would have liked to see that play out in a full movie.

The problem with the dancing is that it takes an arc in Spider-Man mythology which has always been dark and (for Alot, there was two serious scenes with it from memory) and played it for laughs. I found it hard to take some serious scenes seriously as all I could think of was Tobey Maguire moving his hips with an emo haircut!

As for ANE's post about it amplifying the hosts characteristics, firstly Peter is not a "dork" in his college years. Secondly, it actually failed at the rule it established. By the end of the previous films Peter had always learned the lesson of responsibility and power and all that. The character had a strong heroic trait so you would imagine that the symbiote would therefore "amplify" that?

In the comics, the suit "amplifys" only negative characteristics.

If you want to discuss Raimi's trilogy...this is the place.

If you want to discuss Webb's films....this is not the place.

If you want to spend your time comparing the two....go to Spidey World.

" Franchise A is great, and I'll bash Franchise B to prove it instead of reviewing them both individually " - Fanboy logic

I just feel that if the symbiote existed in the 1960's, thats exactly how Stan Lee would have played it.

Raimi had no interest in adapting a popular comic arc form the 90's... but if he HAD to include the symbiote, he was going to do it in his own 60's B-Movie style.

The symbiote was a good idea. Re-visiting that dark, defying moment in the hero's life along with the theme of revenge was a perfect time for it.

It allowed them to explore the main concept of Spider-Man 3, there is a dark side to a hero and a good side to a villain. Very interesting IMO.

Uhh

One: It wasn't really a dark story, until Eddie was introduced. Then it just had its dark moments, and attempted to bring horror into Spidey's world.
Two: Outside of being able to slither on and off & enhanced strength, the symbiote never had any effect on its wearer in the comics. You're thinking of the 90s AS show.

Yeah the cartoon brought the whole "attitutde change" aspect in. Before it was just lonely lifeform who wanted to be your bff.

So in the comics, why did he get rid of it? (90s show is my only background w/ symbiote) And was it the show that introduced the whole meteor thing?

Who said Spider-man had no humor? Thing is, it was more of a cheesy, not witty, humor. And I love it! After all Peter Parker read comics in the films.

Reed Richards explained that the Symbiote was a living thing that was pretty much taking him over mentally and physically (such as it taking Peter webslinging as he slept), and obviously that freaked him out. In the comics, Spider-Man got the Symbiote via the "Secret Wars" arc.
