Spider-Man The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread - Part 1 of 99 Luft - - - - Part 13

Sad to realize the Raimi trilogy will never be topped. Especially how they continually try to shove the multiverse aspects of the character down our throats today. If I wanted the Flash, I'd have become a fan of that character.

I'm obviously very biased here, but every Raimi movie felt like an event. Maybe because comic books movies back then were becoming very popular and weren't played out yet and it was the first time we saw these characters on the big screen? But I still remember the build up for Spider-man 3. It was massive. Every Spider-man film since then, for me has just been...meh. Well,I was excited for No way home, but that was only because some of the cast from the trilogy were returning.

Agreed.

Sam's films were also brilliantly directed and the build-up to each film was monumental.

I was an early member of these boards back in the Spider-Man Hype days until about '08. I can still remember the insanity for the first trailer reaction on here in 2001, the Spider-Man 2 "Apprentice" trailer reaction in March '04, and of course the build up to SM3 all through '06 and '07. I even fondly remember the reaction on here to the Hardee's commercial for the first film because every potentially new piece of footage came with genuine awe and a sense of almost disbelief that a live-action Spider-Man film was actually happening after missed attempts a decade earlier with Cameron and Carolco.

The hype for Spider-Man 2 was the reason I joined the SHH forums in the first place. I wanted to join in with all the other Spidey fans. My join date is the date the first Spider-Man 2 trailer dropped. This place was hopping with excitement.

Good times. I miss them. Those days when there was buzz for the likes of Raimi's Spider-Man movies and Nolan's Batman, its never come back again. Sure people were excited for MCU movies and stuff, but it wasn't like those days.

Biased or not, they were definitely events. The first one overshadowed a Star Wars movie when it came out and the sequels were just as popular. Spider-Man 3 hype in particular was insane from that first trailer in front of Superman Returns almost a year out from release. That movie was also the reason I joined SHH. Before them it was really only Batman that could generate that kind of hype for superhero movies and even then it wasn't all of them. The X-Men movies were successful but nowhere near that same level.

I think I joined around part 2,but the hype grew with each movie. I've always loved Spidey, but with the first one I was excited to see it sure, but cautious. I hoped it would be good, but you never know. Then, when I saw it I LOVED it. I went to Toys R Us and bought a bunch of figures to display on my shelf and listened to the song,"Hero," hundreds of times. And I still remember when the teaser for part 2 came out. I think I watched that like,100 times. Spidey 2 was the first movie I saw at a midnight show and it was even better than the first. I went with my girlfriend at the time and those were such great memories for me. Then, because of the black suit/Venom storyline I was obsessed with part 3. Still to this day it's the most anticipated movie of my life. I remember coming on here every day looking for any new picture, any tiny bit of information that might have been leaked online. I followed that film like a religion! lol I remember the whole "is Aunt May gonna be Carnage," debate and people analyzing the poster to see if Venom or another villain was in Spidey's eye. Good times! Including the re-releases last year,I saw Spider-man 1 and 2 at least 5 times each in the theater, and part 3 I saw 8 times. I really miss those days, but I'm thankful that these boards are still here. I miss, and loved message boards back in the 2000's. Sadly, most of them have disappeared because of social media.

I wonder if its just our age, but I have definitely felt this too. Movie/TV shows feel a little disposable... here today, gone tomorrow in an ever grinding churn of 'content'.

Each Raimi Spider-Man movie felt like actual events. Well marketed, with a reach far beyond what we see today in terms of marketing, merchandise, engagement, awareness and pop culture impact.

But then, maybe Minecraft is exactly the same way and I've simply aged out and don't see the ''impact''?

Not to break the flow of conversation, but any of y’all ever have these?

I genuinely can’t remember if I did. I know that missing out on the Batman and Robin pop-tarts was the tragedy of my childhood, but I can’t remember if I ever managed to find these ones.

I was here during the Carnage May and "look at his eyes" sagas of Spider Man. These movies started the tradition of going to the movies with my older brother and helped with us bonding.

I recall camping for Comic Con Hall H and seeing the first footage of Venom before Spider Man 3 premiered.

Just curious if anyone saw the films when they were re-released last year? I went to see each one and I've never been hit more with nostalgia than I was then. It was the most fun I had at the movies in a while. It honestly felt like stepping back in time. The only bad part was, when the movie was over and I went back outside to get to my car. As soon as I stepped outside that theater,I became rather sad about it not being 2002,2004 or 2007. lol

Sadly no, although I intended to see them. One of the greatest audience experiences I've had on an opening weekend, back in 2002.

Other standouts:

- Jurassic Park 1993
- Avengers 2012

It's rare I go on opening weekend, but these ones were palpable.

I'm getting this feeling as well. Things today just don't have the impact that they used to have when it comes to movies and tv. If you go on X, everybody acts like we are living in some golden age of CBMs but we really aren't. I think some of it is because the younger people have a different perspective than us, and at times I do wonder if it is an age thing.

That being said, James Gunns Superman looks fantastic. The trailer made me feel something again.

I would agree that most CBMs don't feel like events today. Only really the Avengers movies do. The solo movies def don't drive traffic.

Batman always feels like an event. Even Begins did. Superman is feeling decently eventy.

I think it's all about the characters involved. Back in the day the "events" were the big characters. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, the X-Men. Not so much for stuff like Punisher, Supergirl, Daredevil, etc.

If we got a new Iron Man with RDJ or Cap with Evans, would probably feel eventy. The next Spider-Man will be an event.

I'd also say that if a legacy character brought back for nostalgia (like Wolverine, Tobey and Andrew as Spidey, etc.) it's usually an event but no one showed up for Keaton in The Flash. :weeping:

It’s been awhile since I was on the forum . The rami trilogy is something special and I will always cherish the memories of it . That art is really amazing as well.
