Just got in the house and Spider-Man 2.1 is on ABC.

It's been a long time since I watched the theatrical version. But I still consider it the better version.

There's nothing in 2.1 that you need, but there's some nice extra character moments that I like. MJ getting a lecture on love from her friend is good, gives you a little more insight into MJ's relationship with John and men in general.

Yeah, but that scene just felt way too chick flick-ish to belong in a Spider-Man/Action movie. I see why they cut it out.

It added a little more depth to MJ, explains her cheating on about 3 people collectively in the trilogy as being scarred from how her father treated her, a shame it got cut really, I never connected that much with MJ, she was a little nasty.

The extended scene with Harry & Peter at his birthday is something that should've been in the theatrical cut. Not only is it a fantastic scene, but the TC is awkwardly edited.

I really loved the Harry and Peter dynamic in this movies.

Is your signature from a comic book or movie? :)

The only thing I don't like in 2.1 is the alternate elevator scene.

I think SM2 theatrical cut is actually better than 2.1 because it was a tighter movie. 2.1 sort of adds elements that slow the movie down and we mostly don't overtly need. All the core story ideas are present in the theatrical cut already. It isn't like SM3, where you can feel the compromises made to tighten the film.

^ Seconded. The only scene I think adds to the movie from the 2.1 cut is the one between MJ and her friend where MJ explains why she's with John. He's the "safe" choice.

Does that justify her wanting to get with Peter and Spidey though? I don't think 2.1 really improves anything but the part with JJ in the suit was funny.

In Spider-Man 2 she is no longer interested in Spider-Man, she wants to be with Peter but he's never around. Another guy is able to actually be with her, since that guy doesn't have to worry about the complications of having to deal with goblins and dudes with metal arms.

That extra scene adds a little more of MJ's perspective but I think her talk with Peter after he sees the play makes it clear enough. But we hear more from her friend than MJ. I can see why it was cut, no real sense in having this lady show up for one scene to tell MJ what love is.

The birthday scene is the real keeper out of all the extras. I like the added action in the 2 fight scenes, but both are a little excessive.

Totally agree. I remember when I was first watching 2.1 and saw that scene and was like, oh man that was so much better. The dialogue was great and Franco did a wonderful job in that scene.

Yeah, besides the Harry/Peter Bday scene and JJJ in the suit, all the other extended stuff was definitely throw away material. I really wish those two had made the theatrical version.

The only thing I don't like in 2.1 is the alternate elevator scene.

Agreed on that...it was improvised and you could tell. Very awkward. The one other added bit of footage that I didn't like was the added stuff to the train fight. It's already perfect the way it was, there's no need to change anything or add anything. IMO, the added bits kinda took away from the Ooomph of the scene...dragged on or something.

Just re-watched Spider-Man 3.

Definitely cluttered and does a lot of stupid stuff. But it's still fun and entertaining. Much better than ASM 2 in just about every way and much more fun than ASM 1.

Harry's death still gets me.

And I noticed that in one of the flashback scenes they showed Harry holding his father in his arms. Got me thinking. We never got any deleted scenes or an extended version of Spider-Man 1, did we?

Time to start campaigning for a Spider-Man 1.1 along with Spider-Man 3.1 as well.

For me the coolest character besides Peter was Harry.

Always loved this.

Niice. While Raimi's take on the symbiote left a lot to be desired, he nailed quite a few iconic shots.

Guess I need to rewatch them back to back (I have both on DVD)....I don't really remember the differences. Everytime I have watched the Spider-Man movies the last few years it's been when it's on TV.

It's been a while since I watched 2.1.

I only watched 2.1 for the first time maybe a year ago. Dunno how it escaped my notice for so long, but I was surprised how different it felt for only 8 exra minutes.

Yes, since he's the one she really loves. What more justification do you need to try and be with someone?

True but she wanted Spider-Man too. She asks John to lie back and kiss her from the upside down angle.

"I think I always knew ... All this time ... Who you really were."

Also, the kiss at the end of Spider-Man 1, and the look of recognition as Peter's walking away ... She knew deep down who Spider-Man was.
