I was watching the trailers to the movie again and I remember the first time I saw Spider-man in live action, it was this shot

I love that shot. :woot:

I love the Raimi movies in general. :woot:

Some of my favourite scenes in film came out of the Raimi films. Maybe it's a little nostalgia, but I do really like the way Peter is portrayed in these films, he interacts with a lot of people who are above him, JJJ, Pizza Boss, Rent guy, ect.

I think Raimi's movies had a great supporting cast. JJ, Betty, Ditkovich, Aunt May, Robbie, HOFFMAN!

I love them for that.

Agreed, the supporting cast in Raimi's was great.

Though I think Robbie was on the bland side, especially compared to his comic book counterpart. The only time Robbie felt like he had a personality was in Spider-Man 2 when he's defending Spidey against Jonah, when he says to Peter he heard Spidey was at Octavius' demonstration and gives him this suspicious kind of look implying he knows Peter is Spidey, and when he looks upset holding Spidey's mask when they realize he's quit. In Spider-Man 1 and 3 he has no real memorable moments. He just stands around Jonah's office with occasional forgettable dialogue. Jonah, Hoffman and Betty are all much better.

I always thought he knew. Aunt May too, at least in Spider-Man 2.

Hoffman was great! :woot: He was an original character, right?

Yes Hoffman was an original character. He was a good idea. An employee who sucks up to Jameson and happily takes all his abuse lol.

^That, and Hoffman was another way/reason for Sam Raimi to use his brother as a punching bag. :funny:

"You want a staff job and you want a staff job. Anybody care about what I want?!"

"I do!"

"Shut up. Get out."

Hoffman suffered a cut in SM3 as well as everyone else. I tweeted Ted Raimi lol

Honestly I think if the first two movies had been released within the past few years they wouldn't have received as much critical acclaim as they did back then and made as much. Especially the first one because it came out before Nolan's Batman, before Iron Man, before a LOT. At the time there weren't many quality super hero films to compare to.

Most superhero movies before 2002 ranged from mostly meh to complete crap. The only exceptions being X-men, the first two Superman movies, Batman(1989) and I guess Batman Returns. Today superhero movies are a dime a dozen and many movies have released that are superior to Spider-man 2.

You can say that about anything. If Citizen Kane, Jurassic Park or Terminator came out today, they wouldn't be nearly as praised.

I'm pretty sure people would still like SM2 if it came out today!

Well to be honest without Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy the genre wouldn't even be what it is today, his movies managed to balance the cheesy elements of comic books with good characters and story. The first 2 movies(specially SM2) were the first superhero movies(probably along with X-Men 2) to actually make the characters feel believable which made audiences willing to take superheros more seriously, I doubt movies like TDK would even exist if it wasn't for the credibility Raimi gave to superhero characters. Im not saying that new filmmakers are ripping off Raimi movies but I think they are at least inspired in the way he adapted the source material.

Joss Whedon has praised Raimi several times and I think that means a lot considering he made the most successful superhero movie ever and probably got some inspiration from Raimi's Spidey movies.

I feel that Raimi's Spider-Man movies (the first two) would still be received well from audiences and critics if they were released in this day and age.

Look at Marvel Studios: The general audience loves how they balance the lighthearted stuff into their movies. Raimi's Spider-Man films would fit right in, in my opinion.

I love the one shot from Spider-man 3 when MJ is trapped in Venom's web and her hair is flowing in the wind. Beautiful image. Anyone have the gif of that?

1000% agreed. I don't think that they were only good due to the limited era they were released. I just think that they were great films, and had they come out today would be well received as well

Indeed! Joss has many times said SM1 and SM2 are he feels 2 of the best CBMs ever made, and I agree

I wouldn't go as far as saying many myself, but I guess that's where some of us differ.

Having watched it again a few days ago, I've gotta say, it is still a wonderful triumph of a superhero movie. I'm confident that if SM2 was released tomorrow or ten years from now, it would still rank among the very best; it is ever deserving of the distinction 'genre classic'. I really feel that we've been spoiled with all of the genre movies that are releasing these days. I think it's fair to say that the genre is still maturing quite a bit, and I think that's evidenced by how many movies have raised the bar in even the last fifteen years.

Everything from Blade, X-Men, Spider-Man 1 & 2, TDK, Iron Man, and Avengers have all raised the profile and respectability of these movies among the mainstream and within the industry as well, so when people say that the Spider-Man movies wouldn't hold up today, to me that shows a lack of appreciation for how these movies have helped shape the genre. All it would have taken was for Spider-Man '02 to hit development hell (again) and the landscape would be completely unrecognizable today. I don't know...maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like a lot of people have forgotten just how good this movie was in light of the CBM overload that we've seen in the last several years. It still stands out among the entire crop for me.

I have a soft spot for the Tobey Dance (both of them).

I dunno why, I just like it in a "I hate it" way.

I wish to see it in the reboot! :cmad:

I love dancin' T-Mags.

Garfield's dancin' ain't got nothing on T-Mags. :o

It's definitely an entertaining scene to watch, for sure.
