Days of Future Past The Official JANUARY JONES/Emma Frost Thread

I'd much rather not have Emma in the sequel if January's going to continue in the role. Everything about her is just a bland actress. This is the third time she's failed to impress me in a role. There are plenty of blond actresses in Hollywood who could get this character right, give it to one of them.

I hope in the sequel they try to get Alice Eve as they originally intended.

Exactly, I thought that too, and then right at the end she transforms to diamond to fight the man that actually fractured her. I have to go back to the writer thing, I mean that's one of the problems when you have powerful telepaths in these movies, Emma was supossed to be one, she could have easily escaped, they should have at least adressed it, in one way or the other, the old X-movies had the same problem, they just solved it in more intelligent ways, they incapacitated the Professor, or you know, killed him.

She was clearly worried about having Charles in her head as she asked about him. In that scenario, she would have a higher chance in fighting if she was in her diamond form.

I loved how she was eating a cracker while psychically seducing the Russian commander. LOL :awesome:

You can kind of tell when they removed the psychic duel from the film. I'm assuming it's in the Russia scene. Emma pretty much just let Charles read her mind. They didn't even show her put up a struggle.

I appreciate Vaughn's attempt to be original but I would have loooved and Inception-style psychic duel between Emma and Xavier. Maybe in the sequel.

I was fine with her, she wasnt great but she was basically the X1 Mystique in this movie. I just hope that they step everything about her up to another level in the sequel. I want more attitude, more powerful telepathy, and actual acting.

For what she was given, I think she was good. After reading reviews before watching the movie, I got the impression that she didn't have much to do but in terms of her using her powers, she had plenty to do:

- telepathically subduing Erik on the Yacht/ defending Shaw
- reading Col. Hendry's mind
- blocking Charles' telepathy during the yacht raid
- cutting ice/glass
- psychically seducing the Russian General
- sensing Charles using cerebro
- trying to fight off Charles and Erik

I can count her turning into diamond 4 times throughout the movie.

It's a shame the psychic battle was taken out, I would have loved to have seen that since Xavier vs Phoenix in TLS was bare-bones.

It's kinda funny that during the yacht scene, she could attack Erik using her mind control before pushing him off the yacht with her diamond form. However, she didn't do it with Erik during the encounter in Russia. Was it because Charles blocked it ?

Yes they cancel each other out.
Also I'm sure Emma could escape but to where? I'm pretty sure she was just waiting on Shaw to find her after he started the nuclear war. In her mind I doubt she believed he could fail. That cell was the safest play she could be once the nuclear war started.

I liked January as Emma. Her voice was a bit soft, but other than that I was very pleased

Possibly. I think she simply knew she was outnumbered. Sure, she could use here telepathy on Erik, but then what's to stop Charles from using his telepathy on her? Nothing.

Jones is very beautiful, but a horrendous actress. It was like an alien trying to be human, but failing terribly.

I'd say she was just covering them, but she can't have been, or else she'd have had a diamond miniskirt a few times. Maybe she just has a vacuum between her legs.
:hehe: ...that theory actually makes some sense

Yeah. Easily the worst part of the movie for me too. Just no sort of oomph in her line reading what so ever. Her smiles were too bright and should've been more sly. It's not even like it was with Halle. There's clear motivation in the writing that they know who Emma Frost is, January just fails to be her.
Thats the sad thing. Writing was good. She wasn't the main villain but her and Shaw were given plenty of time to shine. Kevin Bacon pulled off Shaw really well but Emma fell flat. She is hot and looks like Emma but whenever she talked she sounded like a complete ditz.

Not only did she turn in a horrid acting job...I don't even find her attractive. Emma Frost is supposed to be this ridiculously sexy woman who was born to barely wear that lingerie...and honestly...most of the women in Hollywood could fill that role...but to me, I didnt for one second think that Emma Frost was hot.

But mostly the problem was her lifeless acting. She didnt seem to be a cold calculating leader to me...she seemed a mix of bored and over thinking her acting.

How was she supposed to play Frost, exactly? In most scenarios, that's how she's portrayed, except as of late when writers have put her at the forefront.

Dont mind these fan boys Terry. She was what I knew Emma frost was supposed to be until the early 2000's

Except for even hotter

Eh not really. I know next to nothing about Emma Frost and I know absolutely nothing about Shaw. So I'm really like a general audience member when it comes to judging their film personalities and even then I still say Shaw rocks and Frost sucks.

When did Emma act bored all the time? I must have missed those comics.

It was January Jones playing January Jones in lingerie. Not Emma Frost at all.

Just got back from seeing the film, loved it, but January was one of the weak links......I was actually thinking the above every time she came on screen...

...again, I still enjoyed it...

I thought she was fine with what she was given, but I would be nervous if they expanded her role in a sequel.

Girl needs to learn how to show emotion.

I thought she did great. She was, to me, how i thought Emma Frost would be in real life - cold, aloof, and very beautiful. To get the exact comic book artwork would require some horrid porn star packed with silicone. She looked like Frost, she acted like Frost.

I thought she did what was required from the role, well.
