I swear to God, Oldman had damn-well better be an Oscar nominee/winner by this film's release.
Don't you think Oscar talk is jumping the gun a little, considering we've only seen about 60 seconds of footage?![]()
I took it as not necessarily Oscar for TDKR, but for something by that time (which could be TDKR).. the idea is that Oldman needs an Oscar! He's a brilliant actor.

Eh. I wouldn't say he's a bad actor, but I wouldn't say I've seen him in anything that's been brilliant. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of Gary Oldman films, but I would hardly call his roles in BB, TDK, Red Riding Hood, The Book of Eli, The Unborn or Harry Potter brilliant.
Once again you put your keen and penetrating mind to the task and as usual come to the wrong conclusion.

Have you seen Sid & Nancy, Dracula, or Leon? Even JFK for that matter?

I'm not an idiot. I know what you're saying. A) Those films sucked, and he must of known it when he first read the script... Why would a brilliant actor sign on to a ****** movie? B) His role in those films, bad or not, were not brilliant. Interesting. Well-done. But they were not Christian Bale in the Fighter or Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood.

Because money.
Christian Bale was in Shaft.
Daniel Day Lewis was in Nine.
Brilliant actors often take less than stellar roles in ****** movies because they'd like a paycheck to CONTINUE pursuing challenging, deep roles in amazing movies.
Like Oldman's new role in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. That will be an Oscar worthy performance, I promise you that.
EDIT: And really, at this stage in Oldman's career he's basically proven to EVERYBODY that he's an amazing actor, and can do pretty much whatever he wants.
Christian Bale was in Shaft.
I did not know this lol. I will have to check that out lol.

You know what Gary Oldman probably enjoys? Lots and lots of money. And, honestly, probably has fun even in those terrible movies. Not every great actor is incredibly selective in their work. Doesn't mean they aren't great.
Laurence Olivier was in Clash of the Titans (Which I love, but not exactly up to Olivier's calibre of material). Orson Welles did a voice in the bloody 80s Transformers movie.
Damn... even Gary Oldman blew me away with his acting in a teaser trailer.
Oscar tiiiiime!!! (Not for TDKR though clearly... the academy would NEVER!)

That was kind of early in his career (2000 to be exact). He didn't have the impressive resume then to pick & choose the "meaty roles", but I'm sure he took it as a paying gig. I'd be very surprised if he took a similar role now.
