The Dark Knight Rises The Official Jim Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

"I never said Thank You..."

"And, You'll never have to."

The whole Bats/Gordon relationship wrapped up in two simple lines. So amazing, Oldman rules.

Probably my favourite interaction between the two over both films. As you said, it sums up their whole dynamic.

In addition to that, if we look at the entire Gordon Family and the story of how Bruce became Batman because of losing his own family, we actually witness the Dark Knight finally accomplishing what he had set out to do: prevent the same tragedy that befell the Waynes. He saves another child from losing a family, another father and mother from witnessing ruin in the hands of a desperately demented man with a gun.
I don't know why that hasn't occurred to anyone before. That's brilliant.

Definitely! I was on my feet cheering the first time when he pulls the gun on the Joker. Everyone in my theater was ecstatic at that scene. Oldman's an amazing and versatile actor.

It was the same with my theater.

At this point, I can't see anyone else playing Gordon. Same with Bruce too because both Bale and Oldman really do it for me in their portrayals.

It's going to be hard to cast the next Gordon in the next set of Batman films.

And no Dennis Quiad.

I can't either man.

I always pictured a scene where they meet in the rooftop and have a conversation, then Batman takes off his mask, but Gordon turns away before he sees Bruce's face and asks him to put the mask back on.

That would be pretty cool.

My other "favorite" line by Oldman's Gordon is when he pulls the gun on Batman, first time he was worry about the vigilante, and said;

"I have to save Dent!"

The desperation, misguided, bet determined individual came out so perfect right there. It showed us how much of Gordon's world has spiraled out of control...

I too love Oldman's portrayal as Gordon in this series. He IS Gordon! Another line that was fantastic was the one he gave Dent.

"If I didn't work with cops you investigated while you were making your name at I.A. I'd be working alone. I don't get political points for being an idealist, I have to do the best I can with what I have."

I love when he casually strolled into Maroni's restaurant, looks at Dent on the TV, and says "Our boy looks good on the tube".
Hahahahahaha, love that scene too :D

Oldman is one of the greatest living actors, how he's not got a row of little gold statues on his mantle is baffling to me. Gordon's just one of many great roles, and performances, that I truly enjoy watching. The subtleness of his approach to a role that could in lesser hands simply be the standard good guy is fantastic and complex, there are shades of doubt, pain and courage in there. He melds great with every character, especially Bats. I would love to see him have more to do in TDKR, and to once again be central to the plot.

I love this line as well. It gives me chills everytime I watch it. I also love that moment between the two. This series perfectly captures their relationship.

I also love the line, "It's not that simple. With The Joker it never is."

It feels straight out of a comic book to me. Even though this is Joker's introduction, I love how Batman already seems to know and finally understands the Joker and what he does.

Yeah, that scene just exudes the Graham Nolan/Denny O'Neil rooftop scenes during the Knightfall, Contagion, and Legacy comic arcs.

if they go the route of him breaking up with his wife...... then a final shot of gordon sitting alone with a glass of "moonshine" as the film closes would be great... we see various shots of how batman is set in his role as the protector of gotham... and in between we see that it has come with certain costs... that would be great.... oldman can be a great dramatic actor...

and i am sure this movie will take its toll on gordon.

Truth be told, while Pat Hingle was a great actor, he was by no means a Gordon.

Among all the screwed up missteps in the four Batman movies (1989-97), the portrayal of Gordon was the most consistently, cluelessly, godawful-ly bad.:word:

"This evidence is purely circumstantial" - holds up Bat-a-rang.

LOL

I love when he casually strolled into Maroni's restaurant, looks at Dent on the TV, and says "Our boy looks good on the tube".

Haha, YES  I love that shot. Maroni then says something like "Are you going to embarrass me in front of my friends lieutenant?" And Gordon responds: Don't worry, they'll be coming too. :awesome:

Sorta OT, but I was really happy when it was revealed that Gordon was the driver and point man in the Joker take down scene in TDK. I hope he gets another cool SWAT/action scene in this one...Afterall, its nice having a Gordon who doesn't need the Atkins diet and two, Oldman is the man.

That was an amazing shot. I loved how they took that straight from The Long Halloween and swapped the guy underneath the SWAT mask from Batman to Gordon. Like I said - people in my theater were cheering for Gordon at that point!

Yeah, loved those two lines from Gordon. That, and the last line from BB were my favorites from the series.

People can argue all day about Nolan's interpretations of the characters in his series, but one thing for sure, is his Gordon is spot-on. No debate.

And I just loved the fact that they finally gave Gordon such a prominent role in the film. More in TDK. He ran the greatest risk (even moreso than Batman) to be overshadowed by all these other amazing, screen-grabbing characters, but the script does him justice and even solidly ends the film with his narrations.

Another favourite of mine is during the multiple Joker-attacks at Surrilo's, Loeb's, and Wayne's. We see this very hardworking, tired cop in Gordon probably returning home to his family at the end of the day, and Ramirez comes running to him and all of a sudden it's action time. No room for rest. To borrow a line from the comics: Not when you're a cop in Gotham City.

I'm still not so sure about that. While I'm sure Nolan could pull it off, I'd prefer if Gordon not know.

Bane may be able to get the best of batman but bane doesnt know that gordons mustache is a whole different creation...its what will defeat bane in the end :)

I'm re-reading no man's land, and like I've heard people say before, the issue where batman tries to reveal his identity to gordon is pure gold. There are two parts in particular that would just be awesome if they were included

Batman: You're my partner.

Gordon: Don't blow smoke at me.

Batman: It's true--

Gordon: It's what you'd like to think--that doesn't make it true. Partners are equals, Batman! When have you ever treated me like your equal? Partners, for example, tell you their plans! They keep you informed! And they sure as hell don't walk out on you in the middle of a sentence!

[silence]

Batman: I've never been good at saying goodbye.

And the other part of course is when batman takes his cowl off and gordon turns away, not wanting to know who's underneath.

I'd really like to see something like that.

It's Oldman's Gordon I'll miss the most once this series is over.

Yeah, that's all that is missing is a Gordon office with Batman scene. They somewhat did it in BEGINS but he wasn't "Batman" yet.
