So taking 39 cakes wouldn't be as terrible I'm assuming.

What's that from? Looks like a children's book.

Honestly I will be very upset if Luthor isnt in this in some role resembling present day lex in the comics. He had better be a selfmade billionaire and the CEO of his own corporation.

They might be saving him for the sequel like they did with Joker in Batman Begins.

haha, that would be great.

But if there were any lex luthor in-joke i'd include in his dialogue, it would be a scene with him at his office. He walks past his secretary's desk, and sees she has a plate of cakes sitting out. She offers him one, and he takes it.

"mmmm, i could take 40 of these," he says.

"that's terrible," replies the secretary.

nice :D

Just like the underwear were a lock? ;) I ain't holding my breath though.

And that would be genius :D

Whoa whoa. Some of us in the first threads of costume before SR even came out discussed a no trunks possibility. What knocked it down? Stupid Burton's crappy costume.

:D

How many of you would like to see Lex in some modern variation of the purple and green Super Friends costume (the one in the 40 cakes picture) in a movie?

I know, I know, it's silly. But I think if he wore a lab suit that was similar it would be a really cool nod to the fans. What do you think?

I think we're more likely to see a variation of the green battlesuit on film at some point.

So how would one draw Darkseid to Earth? I would like it if the Anti-Life Equation was somehow involved.

As for a second film, I agree Lex and Metallo would be cool possibly with Brainiac pulling the strings.

Once upon a time, I toyed around with the idea of a Superman reboot using Darkseid as the villian in an origin story that involved time travel.

The final film in this Superman story should be a straight forward Superman vs Lex story. Either Lex is finally in complete power as the President on the United States, or he has lost everything and gone completely mad by this point.

At some point, one of two things need to happen. Lex has to gain the abilities to face Superman physically, or Lex needs to figure out a way to de-power Superman and then we can get an epic man on man fight between the two. I'm not in favor of the battlesuit though. You can't use Metallo if you the battlesuit route, I know it's two different things but it will also make the battlesuit feel redundant.

I would grant Lex powers in one of two ways. One, we know that Kryptonite is a weakness of Superman's. But in the DC universe, so is black magic. You can draw inspiration from Adolf Hitler, yea I said it, and establish that Lex is into the occult and supernatural. This could eventually lead to him gaining powers via black magic. OR, as we know in the DC universe, the white martians prevented humanity from having full meta-human abilities. You obviously wouldn't get into martian mythology, but if Lex derives a serum that accesses the full potential of a human being with the ability to stand toe to toe with Superman. Who isn't sick of seeing humanity be the universal ***** in distress in comics/sci-fi/fantasy? I want a fight scene between Superman and Lex that mirrors the awesome Batman/Ras fight at the end of Begins.

Oh, and Michael C. Hall is still one of my top Lex choices.

You know, I think people should look back at Nic Cage as Superman, then look at Henry Cavill.

Look at Cage's face, then look at Cavill's face.

Look at Cage's hair, then look at Cavill's hair.

Look at Cage's costume, now look at Cavill's costume.

Look to the Cage, look to the Cavill, look to the Cage, look to the Cavill...

The point? BE GRATEFUL!!!! :woot:

so Lex will maybe work with the military. and C. Meloni is working for the military.

is he really not Lex Luthor?

I know right?

I would actually be fine with Meloni playing Lex, he is charismatic, not a huge name, but he has the ability to grasp evil very well. - see OZ on HBO

Meloni as Col. Hardy will probably be Synder's version of Lex :wow:

Still glad that Lex appears not to be in this film. He needed a rest.

What's to explain? It's the first story and he's (presumably) not involved. Done.

If anything is labelled "LexCorp" or "Lex Luthor Industries" then we'll at least know that he's around.

I suppose.

But Lex does have an obession about aliens and power. Not to be around for MOS and show no interest in Superman and co, seems odd :p

So you guys want Chris Keller to be Superman's archnemisis? THAT SOUNDS AWESOME! :awesome:

John Shea please.

I still can't believe how between Hackman and Spacey of all people, they failed to realize a true Lex. Insane.

Lex may be there, but just as a slight easter egg or foreshadowing. Maybe someone who works for him contacts him via phone or email to mention some info on him. Foreshadowing has kinda been done to death in movies lately, but fanboys love it.

I would have considered the fact that the Man of Steel script was penned by Goyer with the input of Chris Nolan (in addition to the other writers brought on board a little later) we will get a teaser at some point (probably near the end of the film) that pointed to Lex Luthor and/or other threat like Brainiac? Darkseid? being in the sequel. Maybe in the vein of the ending scene in Batman Begins with the Joker calling card. The writing process is still ongoing and I'm sure that they will revise the script. There is still a lot of filming to be done as Man of Steel will not be released 'till nearly 2 years' time and we could conceivably get Lex Luthor afterall. Maybe in sequel he will be in the green battle armour? This reboot seems to me structured around the Kryponian like Kal-El/Superman, Zod, and Faora et al.

If Lex Luthor can't have a major role in the film, I would love to at least see him get a cool cameo, perhaps something in the vein of his appearance in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. In that story, he shows up at the invitation of the bad guys, who pay him a consultation fee of a few million dollars for 10 minutes of his time, during which he guarantees he can show them how to kill Swamp Thing. During this consultation, he develops from scratch the blueprints for a superweapon capable of exploiting the creature's weaknesses and finally destroying him. He finishes in about 8 and a half minutes, and as he prepares to leave, one of the villains tells him his 10 minutes isn't up. Luthor replies with, "I thought I'd leave you with some time to process my fee. Good day, gentlemen." And he departs, never to be seen again.

I think a scene like this could work brilliantly in Man of Steel, if you replace the villains with the military generals we know Lennix and Meloni are playing. It ties neatly into Luthor's rumored new role in the comics as a freelance government scientist/military advisor. It would introduce Luthor in a manner that was unobtrusive to the larger plot, not putting him centre-stage as the main antagonist again, but establishing him as a threat to be further explored in the sequel.
