The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 7

I genuinely believe Lex will be an evil version of Tony Stark in the sequel. Mad scientist, genius, futurist, arrogant to a fault, billionaire business magnate, policy driver. And all that focuses on Superman, in this world if Superman hadn't been around perhaps Lex would have been humanities savior, it's greatest thinker and leader, but his obsession ruins all that.

I don't like the poll choices..........Lex is more than each one of them.

He's a scientist and businessman....not either or.

STAS by Clancey Brown is by far the best Lex ever portrayed on any screen.

Not to be a pedant, but Lex has been all of those things in his own right, before Iron Man existed.

Billy Zane gets my vote

So, where did that Mark Strong rumor pop out from..?

Yeah, I've always liked Strong and since he's most likely not going to play Sinestro again, why not cast him as Lex? I don't think that many people associate him with the GL movie anyway since he was barely in it and those that do tend to think he was the best part. It could be a situation like when Chris Evans was cast as Captain America after the F4 series ended.

IMO Strong is as solid a choice (but not as "original") as Shannon as Zod.

But Strong is just so damn great to watch. His voice alone has more presence than most Hollywood villain actors.

Again, not the most original choice, but let this be his last and most ultimate villain-role then.

Guy Pearce? Think harder man.

Suggestion: choose someone who wasn't the Big Bad in the 2nd biggest SH movie of all time that came out like FIVE SECONDS AGO! Sheesh.

why think harder when you have the perfect choice lol, and like a few others here, I wanted him as Lex long before Iron Man 3 can around

idk man, I'd really...REAALLLY like them to go with a more inspired choice to help shake things up. I don't want to see a Lex who screams villain!, but a Lex Luthor who can really pull the wool over my eyes and make me say in my mind, 'Hey, this guy's not too bad a person..' before he has someone killed in cold blood, then STILL have me wondering if he's really that bad of a guy. I think Mathew mcconaughey would be ideal for that role. Not too against the idea of Bradley Cooper doing it either.

To be fair, Mark Strong is easily capable of doing that. His performance in Kick Ass was exemplary. The only strike against him, really, is overuse.

Yeah, he's played plenty of heroic characters too. I still need to see Welcome to the Punch. The trailers made it look awesome.

That and Michael Rosenbaum

The Young Justice Lex is a close second for me. He's acutally a little more clam and collected at all times.
P.S. I really, really hope they pronounce it Lew-thor.

I hope they pronounce it "Leckth Lurfuh".

If being bald is the only criteria necessary, which it seems to be with some of the suggestions, why not Rick from pawn stars?

I'd say Mark Strong could do a great job as Lex Luthor. In my eyes, he completely fits that role (come on, it's almost as if the TAS version of Lex was modeled after him).

He's great as a villain, we've seen him pull it off in Kick Ass, Sherlock Holmes, and Green Lantern as Sinestro (which i'm sure won't be part of the Man of Steel Universe).

Mark Strong gets my vote.

well it doesn't really matter if the actor looks like a bad guy or not....if they are being cast as "Lex Luthor" its pretty much a given lol, best thing....I think....that they should do....go the Earth One approach and start him out seemingly like a genius who has no interest whatsoever in Superman.

Have something push him towards him, something that triggers that evil in him that we all know he's capable of, give him an actual reason to hate Superman instead of just being a crybaby lol

I agree with Mark Strong. He just screams villain and yes we know Lex is evil but I don't want the characters to know.

While not a villain at all in the role, Mark Strong's performance in the movie "Day of the Falcon" should not be missed, it shows a remarkable level of emotional performance and it's a great movie IMO. Caught it on Netflix a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing start to finish.

He's also pretty good in "Welcome to the Punch" but that one I wasn't so particular fond of. It's worth at least one viewing however, again IMO.

I'll always see Mark Strong as Sinestro, and I blame his role in Sherlock Holmes for that lol. I wouldn't be surprised though if he's able to do a great Luthor though, he's a very good actor, just not my.....lets say "top" pick :p, that will always go to Guy Pearce :)
