Excellent suggestion right here.

Ben Foster as a re-imagined and relatively young Lex Luthor. Make it happen WB.

What do any of you think of a non-bald luthor for this series? I read a quote from the actor who played luthor (who mostly wasn't bald in Lois and Clark) about how a man with as many resources as luthor wouldn't actually be bald.

For me it depends on who the actor is. Also, I think a man seems smarter with hair.

Not to mention some actors don't look great bald either. I think they will likely go for the better actor first then an actor who will necessarily look good bald.

Like if it's Dicaprio, I say let Lex have hair.

Why is looking "good" important? Lex shouldnt give a damn about how his (lack of) hair looks. Leo is EXACTLY the kind of actor who should be de-prettified with either a blah crewcut or straight up baldness. Male pattern baldness would be ideal. A truly formidable Luthor isn't gonna be worried about his hair.

Bizarre that being attractive is even a consideration for Lex, regardless of the actor. Irrelevant.

Lex in his modern incarnation is an extremely vain man who is obsessed with how he can never be seen as the perfect human due to superman being around and that drives his jealousy.

If Lex were to be bald it would have to be essentially due to him adopting it as a stylistic choice for himself and not just as an accident or natural balding, as he is vain and would have more than enough resources to solve that problem.

We are hoping for a NEW incarnation, something unique to the universe established in MoS. He needs to be formidable, not a pretty boy or a Donald Trump or a John Gotti.

He WILL be vain, but not about his appearance. At least I hope not. That would be lamer than the con-man/Hackman retread we got in SR.

Lex should be a truly great man, admirable even, who's arrogance and rage and paranoia and intellectual vanity lead to his downfall. Supes' presence magnifies these flaws.

Or if they go younger, he should be a man on the verge of greatness, who feels stymied by what he sees as an alien invasion.

Something similar to the Lex of Red Son would work. That guy wouldnt give two ****s about how his hair looked.

I liked lex in red son but check out Lex Luthor:Man of Steel or him in All-Star Superman for the take i feel should be in this film series.

He isn't vain like some pretty boy it's more he's about pushing humanity to the next level of achievement and he tries to embody that in appearance and mentality. Like i said the reason he hates superman isn't just he's a "bad guy" and superman is "good" but superman represents the limits that mankind can never reach and that drives him mad.

Lex wants to personify the best in humanity to counter superman. Him caring about his appearance is only one aspect of the character but it is an important one.

It really isnt. I feel it weakens, cheapens the character. But of course it's a matter of personal preference/opinion. Id much prefer something similar to Red Son rather than the other versions.

The thing with red son it was much more of a tribute to the silver-age era of superman. With a god-like superman and lex as a mad scientist.

That's not the lex from the last twenty years at least.

From all-star:

I feel it gives his character more context as to why he hates superman. Again the only lex we've had on film for the last 30 years his only motivation was selling land!

I like lex having a personal dislike/jealously for superman as he's the only man in the world who can make him feel small and powerless.

Its just too obvious and cartoonish for this version of Superman imo. I don't expect MoS2 to have a "mad scientist" Lex, but I do think he has to be, basically, the most formidable human being on the planet.

Im also open to something completely new. That would be my preference actually, a total re-imagining a la Ledger Joker (only more so).

Mikkelsen was really creepy in Casino Royale. I like him. :yay:

I like the idea of Lex being bald being a stylistic decision. It would be funny to see him in prison or something as his hair's coming back as opposed to the other way around with him losing it and whatnot.

Whoever is eventually picked for the role would be the right choice. Thought the casting was incredibly spot on for MoS, the movie's bright spot for me. Especially confident in the Nolan crew picking a good onscreen comic book villain.
:funny:

Do you mean smarter as in 'more intelligent'? If so I disagree, and find your viewpoint very strange.

Like if it's Dicaprio, I say let Lex have hair.

Why, so he looks like DiCaprio looks in everything? DiCaprio playing Lex with his own hair would just be the same angry-baby fat-face yet again. I think he is a terrible casting choice, anyway, but if we do get landed with him he has to shave his head.

I agree(ish), but would add that plenty of vain/good looking/powerful men choose to shave their heads rather than wear a wig or get a hair transplant or whatever. For a man like Lex, attempting to cover up a receding hairline would be a little chink of vulnerability in his armour. I think he is unlikely to give the world the satisfaction.

Added to that, baldness is really the only iconic/recognizable feature Lex has. Without it, he is a man in a suit. Of course the script and the performance are more significant, but I don't think it is wise to deprive the character of his one visual signature.

I was looking for someone to say this. Lex Luthor being bald is the only physical feature that REALLY matters. I also don't think he can be fat of course, but baldness IS Lex Luthor.

I saw an interesting suggestion for Lex Luthor the other day Aidan Gillen from Game Of Thrones, The Wire, The Dark Knight Rises, Blitz, Shanghai Knights and Thorne.

Dont like the pretty boy picture of him as I hope businessman Luthor doesnt look like that. Looked him up on google images and he would work, still though I would like a bigger name actor to get the role

My biggest request is that whoever gets the role needs to hit the gym as hard as Cavill did. Luthor needs to be mentally AND physically intimidating

I really don't think Lex Luthor needs to be as ripped as Superman. Do we really need to see him with his shirt off, anyway?
