The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 8

Somebody's going to have to show some skin and I doubt it'll be Cavill again...

If Cavill isn't shirtless in the sequel, I'll burn Warner Bros to the ground.

I hope Justin Bieber gets the chance to become a villain. I wanna see these boards explode...

I really don't think Lex Luthor needs to be as ripped as Superman. Do we really need to see him with his shirt off, anyway?

They need to display Luthors need to be a perfect human. His physique is part of his narcissism. Luthor needs layers. I definitely dont want him to be just a crook again

Lex in his modern incarnation is an extremely vain man who is obsessed with how he can never be seen as the perfect human due to superman being around and that drives his jealousy.

If Lex were to be bald it would have to be essentially due to him adopting it as a stylistic choice for himself and not just as an accident or natural balding, as he is vain and would have more than enough resources to solve that problem.

I don't know about that. Most modern solutions to male pattern baldness tend to look quite obvious and are often just as much a source of gossip and teasing. I would think that Lex would choose to shave his head instead of resort to just as obvious and imperfect solutions as hair plugs or a toupee. I feel like Lex would rather just own his baldness by shaving it off. Trying to fix his baldness with plugs or a wig or toupee would be admitting that he is imperfect, that he is flawed and doesn't like himself. I think Lex's vanity would result in him shaving his head instead, like the literary version of Tywin Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire/A Game of Thrones. A powerful, vain man who is a control freak who shaved his head clean when he started to bald to reassert his control over his body.

I was looking for someone to say this. Lex Luthor being bald is the only physical feature that REALLY matters. I also don't think he can be fat of course, but baldness IS Lex Luthor.

And the only look that really contrasts with that but still works is when he's got a downright leonine mane complete with man-beard, like the Lex Luthor II look. And let's be honest, some people truly rock the bald look in a way that makes plain old stylized hair look lame.

A still handsome and fit but intimidatingly bald Luthor is the best contrast with Cavill's Superman, considering the latter's carpet of virility and, according to my female sources, fabulous hair. It also keeps him from ever resembling someone like Donald Trump, and it makes his vanity and arrogance more subtle. We need a subtle and charming Lex Luthor, not a pompous and smarmy Lex.

Yeah, but this notion of Lex Luthor: Heart Throb rather eludes me. I think we might be confusing some of his aspirations and self-regard with the reality. No doubt he is a ruthless and selfish genius, and no doubt he keeps himself in the best shape he can. But regular games of squash and a sideline in executive boxing is probably sufficient for the latter. I don't understand the need for him to have the torso of Henry Cavill. Very few people do, and its not as if the two of them are going to get into a shirts-off fist fight.

Excellent points. I also think it adds to the jealousy and the narcissism if Lex despite all his hard work CANNOT achieve a physique comparable to Superman's. Clark's body needs to stand out as SUPERHUMAN whereas Lex should look like a normal physically fit human being who is not gifted with exceptional genetics in that area. Someone who is bound by his human limitations.

Im not looking for Lex to be sexy, just physically strong and intimidating. Hes perhaps the world's most impressive human, an unequaled combination of mental acuity and physical well being, making him Superman's biggest possible human enemy

Ray Stevenson is a good example of a Lex to me, not a heart throb at all, but someone who can be taken seriously as Lex the politician or the darker Lex who gets his hands dirty

I hope they do with Lex Luthor what the did with Norman Osborn in TASM. Save Luthor for the third movie. Introduce him briefly, or even a minor mention or nod to him. Then lay it on thick in the third one.

For me, who you're describing there is Bruce Wayne, or Ozymandias. Lex might keep in shape, but as an adversary, it is all about the grey stuff between the ears.

Why are people STILL making obscure actor suggestions?????????

Either some of you aren't listening or maybe you're unaware. But Zack Snyder said Lex will be played by a BIG name that people know generally. On the level of a Russel Crowe, Kevin Costner.

Please read this people. For the 20th time, it's not going to be an actor that isn't known worldwide.

These Mads Mikkelson, Ben Foster, Aiden Gillen suggestions don't cut it.

What about Andrew Lincoln for Lex? I haven't watched Walking Dead, but I did see the early season of the show Strike Back. I liked him in that. Might be an off the wall choice though.

Missed this. When did he say that?

Based on the number of Tweets over the past several weeks from women and girls who went to go see MOS because they thought Cavil was hot, you realize every second of shirtless Cavill will go a long way at the box office.

As off the wall as Michael Shannon as Zod. I'm fine with it.

That's the truth some people can't seem to understand. Lex will likely be on the level of Crowe and Costner. That should narrow the list of contenders quite a bit.
Daniel Day Lewis and Denzel Washington are realistic possibilities as to who will be cast as Lex.
I remember a year ago there a whole bunch of people suggesting Billy Zane and posting his image left and right. I wonder where they went?
I miss rolling my eyes at all the Billy Zane fans..

I bet no one would have cared had Superman snapped his neck, heck I bet Superman wouldn't have even screamed afterwards :woot:

Alright., this is Luthor...
