I've said this before, my reasoning behind the lesser names is simple.......sequels.

Lex Luthor is more than just a villian in Superman universe, he is the third biggest character after Supes and Lois, and you could make an arguement that Lex is more important than Lois. Lex needs to be involved even if he isn't the main threat in every movie except maybe the first, and even then he needs mentioned. This way, you can retain an actor hassle free and that actor gets a chance to gorw and evolve into the role alongside whoever plays Superman.

I dont think a big name would have a problem with sequels. Depp didn't, and isn't, with POTC.
I know he's an exception, but still, it can be done.

Corrupt businessman thats a mad scientist who was once a friend of Clark Kent in Smallville. Thats the version of Lex Luthor I want. I don't want anything like the horrendous(IMO) Donnerverse version.

yea for me i definately want corrupt businessman, who is very smart. Then also has political aspirations so then later down the road we could maybe do the whole president lex deal.

He was rumoured to be the main choice for Lex I think of either Burtons, McG's or Ratners films I believe.

I think Viggo would be a great choice and I also can see him doing well as Braniac.

I'm not sure if Depp could do Lex, then again he surprises me often with his crazy roles. So, ok, maybe it is possible.

I want the transition for corporate mongul to politician. Hell, I don't mind if you jump right into that with Lex running for some kind of office from the first time you see him and on. Mayor of Metropolis, to Senator, to President.
