The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

So long as there's not an age limit on the role, what about Victor Garber? I could see him making for a good Lex.

I love Victor Garber but he wouldn't ever be in my choices for Lex. He's one of my choices for Perry White though, he'd be perfect for that role.

I thought Mark Strong would have made a great Luthor, but just read something bout him playing Sinestro in Green Lantern, so I guess that's out the window.

^I wouldn't want Strong anyway. It seems like he's always playing a villain in movies and that's rather dull.

Now this is Lex: Rufus Sewell

I definitely think he'd look the part :)

But at least he plays villains well.

One of the things that I hated most about Kevin Spacey's portrayal (and Gene Hackman's before him) is that neither of them were remotely scary... not even a little bit threatening.

At least if you had an actor who was known for playing villanous characters you know you'd be getting something sinister.

I agree that Spacey wasn't very good as Lex, though I don't know if I should blame the actor or the script. Regardless, I still think we could do better than Mark Strong.

Both the actor and the script where trying to imitate a version of Lex that I didn't enjoy the first time around. So I blame both!

And Mark Strong is Sinestro... so it's not really in question anymore (and besides, the more I look at him, the more I think he actually might be that little bit too old)

Spacey could have definitely played a brilliant Luthor if they didn't go the Hackman route.

He's got the right type of manipulative charm that Luthor needs.

When I first heard Spacey was doing it, I thought he'd be great. I've seen him in a lot of roles. But now that i've seen what he did with the role, I know he could never achieve a good Luthor portrayal in my eyes.

Because even with a terrible script, I still felt Brandon had the essence of the character in the way he played it. He had the right kind of soul for me, if that makes sense.

Everyone else, especially Spacey, did not understand the essence of the character they were playing.

i def would have loved to see him as the corrupt business lex and not a hackman copy.

How about Stephen Moyer from True Blood?

I caught an episode of TB one night, and was impressed with Moyer's understated performance and dark charisma, which would suit the role of Luthor well.

dont know his work myself but has an interesting look for lex. Also i know fans who would want day lewis as lex are probably pissed that guy richtie is looking for him as mority for sherlock holms 2.

Haven't seen True Blood, but I've only heard good things. He definitely has an interesting look for Lex.

Also, how about Adrien Brody? Not sure how he'd look with a bald head, but I was watching the Predators trailer repeatedly yesterday and something made me think he might make a great Lex.

I could see Moyer and Brody. I can see Sewell even more even though he is perfect Dr Doom!
With Nolan overseeing this project I think it's fairly certain that we are getting Lex we all want. the evil, decieving, rich, non gold digging version(SR) that we all love from STAS.

(sigh)

Sewell WOULD have been the perfect Dr. Doom. I love Julien McMahon, but he was totally miscast in that role. Not that it mattered... F4 would have sucked no matter what. Bad writing...bad direction... Chris Evans and (maybe) Michael Chiklis were the only things that made that movie worth watching.

Well, Fox is taking another stab at this, so...he may yet get a chance, at this, or Luthor...

:word:

Michael Wincott would be my choice even though he is 50 now and fans want a 35 young Lex.

I think he would bring the right dynamic to the role.

I know he's usually walking around with a bald head, and that's not why I like him for Lex, but I think Luke Goss could bring the handsome, son of Metropolis with a dark streak to the screen.

Paul is definitely on most fans shortlist at this point. I'd be shocked if they don't take a look at him for a villain role.

Everyone keeps suggesting him for Supes, but.... what about Jon Hamm for Lex?

And, yes, I am aware that he already played Lex in some parody video, so save the jokey comments, I think he could play Lex in a legitimate Superman film.
