The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

My major problem with JGL is that he suffers from Leo DiCaprio syndrome. He'll look seventeen for the next ten years.

If you have a middle aged Lex, then Superman should be middle aged too since Lex and Superman are the same age. And since we're apparently going with a younger Superman, I think it's about time we got a younger Lex, too. After 5 movies with a middle aged Luthor who didn't even resemble the original character, I think that it's time that we changed things up and actually followed the comic. If Superman is going to be in his 20s, then Luthor shouldn't be older than 30.

Not that this is a bad idea at all.... I'm just going to have a very hard time believing in a Lex that is in his 20s as a dominant evil billionaire tycoon. I know they are around the same age, I've seen Smallville, read All seasons, Birthright, etc. I just have a hard time picturing it on screen. Maybe my dislike of Smallville has just clouded my judgement.

But hey, maybe he could be an evil Zuckerberg? Lol. I am in favor of Henry Cavill who is almost 28 so an imposing Lex in his early 30s would be fine. Although I am mostly on the Jason Issacs bandwagon.

Again, someone should really think about John Hamm as Lex Luthor....

He did a parody skit as Lex for Funny or Die, and he's actually a fairly obvious choice...

I've named just about every actor that I think would be a good Lex, but I keep coming back to Jason Isaacs.

Much agreed. I've been saying this for a very long time now... since before SR even. However Joseph-Gordon Levitt just wouldn't work at all as Lex. I don't agree with the "no older than 30" part, however. I'd say a Lex up to 35 would work fine.

I was a big believer in Hardy as LL but now that he's in Batman I've dropped that hope. I just watch Live Free or Die Hard and I really think Timothy Olyphant would make a great Lex Luthor.

I don't care so much about Lex's age...though it would be preferable he's close to Superman's age.

The most important thing to me is getting the personality right...in every movie he's always been more comedy than evil. Luther is a supervillain. Not someone to be taken lightly. This guy is EVIL and a freaking genius. I have yet to see any movie portray Superman OR Lex as they are in the comics.

Jason Isaacs is my safe choice for Lex Luthor.

Michael C. Hall is my outside the box choice.

And Jaquin Phoenix, if he was re-dedicated to acting in all phases, is my still my top choice deep down, after all these years. The thought of a fit, smoothly bald Phoenix starring coldy back at Metropolis through the top window of LexCorp is imprinted in my head.

He had the right amount of calmness, nuttiness and rage in "Gladiator"...

Too be quite honest, it was Gladiator that made me see the Lex Luthor potential in Jaquin Phoenix.

In many ways, the Commodus character in Gladiator has alot of the characteristics I would expect to see in Lex Luthor. The envy of the love that Rome showed to Maximus is the same envy that Lex Luthor should have for the love Metropolis and the world show to Superman. Commodus, showing his true insanity, thought he was the good guy, as Luthor should. And he wanted to bone his sister. While not as disturbing, Lex should really want to tag Lois Lane, just as icing on the cake.

I still maintain that Lex should be held off until the sequel, just like the Joker was held off until The Dark Knight. Batman Begins set up Bruce Wayne story and introduced a villian that helped move that plot along, just as this Superman flick should be Clark Kent's story and a Krypton based villian like Braniac, Eradicator, or even a Zod type if you must. And then bring in the big bad doppleganger in Lex for the sequel. I can't be the only one who see's this.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, I even put him in this poster I made for the manip thread...

...He can play suave and cool, but also has this menacing undercurrent about him.

Lex and Superman were far apart in age from Man of Steel till Birthright, and I doubt there was any indication that they were the same age before it was revealed that Superboy caused young Lex to lose his hair. The illustrations of golden age Lex I've seen make him look pretty old.

I like Timothy Olyphant. He is a good choice.

When it came to seeing Lex Luthor on screen I always thought that Billy Zane would make a perfect Lex Luthor, at least how I see it, as an adaptation of the Lex seen in Superman Animated Adventures and JL, JLU.

Then after Joey Lawrence cut his hair I thought he would make a good Lex, because he has a good look and build and is charming, but can probably pull of dark if pushed and motivated by the director.

This Strong character is also another top contender. I haven't seen really any of his work, but from the movies I know he is in and the reviews he has received I bet he could do good, even if he has been the villain multiple times.

However, I now have another actor I think would make an outstanding Lex Luthor, Luke Goss from Blade 2, Hell Boy 2, Death Race 2. This guy can pull off suave, sophisticated, plus is a martial artist.

It would be interesting to see what this guy could do with some kryptonite or a kryptonite powered suit a la Tron style:

Could someone do a manip, it would take me too long to do one.

Thanks.

I've heard him mentioned a few times in here...i'd be all for him.

If wonder if craig would be willing to shave his head. I shave mine occasionally so I don't see the big deal, but apparently it IS a big deal to others sometimes, especially actors.

Dominic Pace expresses interest in Lex Luthor role for Superman Reboot:

Dominic Pace for 'Superman' reboot?

By Tom Eames, Big Brother Reporter

Dominic Pace has reportedly shown an interest in playing Lex Luthor in the forthcoming Superman reboot.

The Zack Snyder-directed movie, titled Superman: Man of Steel, has yet to cast any roles.

Pace is the subject of a new Facebook campaign for the actor to be cast in the role of the villain, and the actor himself has apparently emailed the Coventry Telegraph to confirm his interest.

The Facebook group states: "It is unknown which direction Zack Snyder will take the latest Superman film... but one thing is for sure. If there is a Lex Luthor role written in, a relatively unknown Dominic Pace would be perfect."

The star has appeared in various TV shows including Angel and Desperate Housewives.

haven't seen his acting, but i'm not diggin' his look. he looks like the poor man's Stanley Tucci...hehe

I like his look. And he's tall. I always thought Luthor should be tall like Superman.
